| | Musical Chronicle Hiya there! I am interested in music very much and would like to here from those who are in a concert, symphonic, jazz, or a classical band and enjoy what you are playing. No stuff like, "My parents make me and I don't like it."
I am a percussionist, and a jazz drummer. I enjoy playing and have a heavy passion for classical music. Just today (3-29-08) I played at a local band festival. The main piece that we played was "An American Elegy." Also next Thursday we (the concert bands) are going to Colorado for 4 days. I'm looking forward to it and hope that I have a good time
-Edit- it is open to choir, jazz choir, and orchestra. Sorry for forgetting

| | | I love to play bass/guitar. The whole "band" thing isn't going so hot, but I did play bass for our school musical this year and did a back-up guitar for some Christmas thing last December.

| | | Why are you limiting it to Band?
What about Orchestra and Choir?
I played violin for five years and viola for a summer. I played trumpet for one year. I took piano lessons for roughly three years, and I still plunk some things out on my own(I'm working on Mozart's Sonata in C major K545 right now).
But my major instrument is my voice. I took Choir in seventh grade because both my parents wanted me to and because I liked singing. I was in Side One Show Choir in both seventh and eighth grade. I was good enough to get into Prep Show Choir for the next year, but I didn't get the whole "diaphragm" thing until about six weeks into ninth grade.
Once you figure out how to breath from your diaphragm, singing makes a lot more sense. I auditioned for Chamber Chorale at the end of that year, and I made it, but because of a scheduling conflict, I had to take Junior Varsity Show Choir instead. So, that's what I'm in now. And next week, I'm auditioning for Chamber Chorale and Varsity Show Choir.
Along with the actual Vocal Music classes, I'm very active in the drama department, which does a musical every fall. Last year, it was Grease. I auditioned for a Chorus part, and got it. This year, it was Les Miserables. I auditioned for Marius and Enjolras, and I was one of the last four choices for both Marius Pontamercy and Jean Valjean at callbacks. I ended up losing both parts, but I had the pleasure of playing the Bishop of Digne, along with four smaller parts (including a student at the barricade, which was wonderful to act).
I'm very excited right now, because my choir is doing "Let it Be," by The Beatles, of course, and "Dirt," from the musical The Sweet Smell of Success for our Show Choir Show this May.
That's me. I'm a choir dork.

| | | Let's see...
I've been playing the Bass Clarinet for around 8 years now, and unfortunately this semester I haven't been able to keep up or play as much as I'd like. I am a Music Minor in college, so I am required to play now and then in the Symphonic Band. I'm very passionate about music, mostly Western Classical, but I can honestly admit that I do not have the work ethic required of a musician, which is why I decided to just minor in music. I played all through middle school and high school which I really enjoyed.
I consider it a big part of me, but I am getting into other forms of music. I've been working on Pro Tools and Audio Boards the past few months, and I would like to try and get a first job out of college in a recording studio.
I like how this thread is just directed towards band members, funny. On one of my last days in High School band my teacher told us that we will always have a inexplicable segregation from String Instruments and Choral groups...kind of still seems that way.

| | I play drums and percussion as well, and my history is as follows:
In 6th grade I joined band for percussion, and learned mallets and standard concert drums.
In 7th grade I joined jazz band, and learned set. I also got my first set (a Ludwig Accent 5 Piece), which I use to this day. I also wrote my first song.
In that summer, I joined the Jacksonville Symphony Youth Orchestra, as a percussionist.
In 8th grade, I moved here, to Arizona, and began writing music with a friend of mine.
Freshman year I joined marching band in the pit, and began taking private lessons
for the drum set. Spring semester I joined Percussion Ensemble, and we played a percussion arrangement of "La Forza Del Destino", which I attribute to my mallet technical skill. I was also in our school's middle band, Symphonic band. I also gained much experience with writing music, especially electronic.
This year I moved to Marching Bass Drum, which I attribute my abs to (haha), and struggled marching. I also joined jazz band here, and play drums for it. This spring semester I'm in Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble (our highest band), Jazz Band, and Percussion ensemble. I also posted my first album on the internet, which can be found here.
Next year I plan on rejoining the pit (and being section leader) as well as trying to get a place in Leadership.
I've also made quite a few friends that play guitar and one that plays bass and can sing, and am working to get a band together. Anyone interested in seeing me drum can check out my Youtube channel, as well.

| | | Thanks for moving it here 4 me Steve.
Hey does any one live in Colorado here? Since I'm going to Mountain View High School in Loveland, CO to perform, it'd be neat to see any1 from here there.
I was in a Marching band pit once. I hated it! All the "I dgaf" freshman, and sophomores were placed there, also since I was part of the pit, the director chose a piece that had no pit for the Christmas Parade. So unfortunately I didn't march in the parade.

| | | Well hello ThrillNetwork! I'm back from Colorado and it was quite the musical experience.
First off I'd like to congratulate Mountain View High School for an amazing job for their performance and the way they sounded after only 2 days of rehearsing with us. And if any1 is at Mountain View and hosted someone, you don't know how much we (the band) appreciate you helping us.
For those at ThrillNetwork, I'll name off what Hemet High played (because I forgot what Mountain View played, oops). In order we played "Canzona", "National Emblem", and the famous "American Elegy" with Mountain View.
On "Canzona" and "National Emblem" I played the Timpani, and on "American Elegy" I played the bass drum.
After the high school performance, Hemet High went to the Colorado Performing Arts Center and listened to the Colorado Orchestra. It was fantastic. They first played Haydn's 98th symphony and that was a good piece. Next they played "Toy Fantasy for Two Harps", and they really did pull out 2 harps, and played a duet, and according to my director, that's kind of rare to see. Then was intermission. When we got back to the auditorium, the band had increased 2 times in size and had an entire orchestra choir. The piece they played was a 34 minute long Single song (not a symphony) was Styx. OMG it was amazing!!!
Well, I just have to say I'm glad to be back in my own house and homeland.

-Edit- We went and saw UNC's symphony rehearse, a note to consider is that they were sight reading and still sounded amazing.

I love music, pretty much anything but twangy country music and gangster rap.

| | | Hey. I'm in my school's concert band, marching band, and pep band. I originally started on the clarinet when I was in fifth grade and then played the bass clarinet in eighth grade. I play the clarinet in marching band and I play the tenor saxophone in pep band. I am now currently palying the bassoon which is freaking awesome. My school's band, orchestra, drumline, and color guard are all going down to Atlanta, Georgia this coming Wednesday. We'll be in different competitions and get to go to many places including Six Flags Over Georgia which will be great. I'm so excited. |

| | | Hey thanks man. I hope we do well even though our songs are really hard and we kind of suck since we only had about three weeks to practice them. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
