Paramount Pictures are fast tracking the planned remake of Footloose into production. The Kenny Ortega directed, Zac Efron starrer, could be in production by next spring, according to Variety.

The trade says that the studio's decision is based around the huge $42 million opening for Efron's High School Musical 3, which debuted last weekend.

Unlike HSM3, Footloose will aim for an older teen and adult demographic. The trade says that Efron is just about set in a deal that will pay him a mid-seven-figure salary and give him script approval.

Peter Sollett (Nick And Norah's Infinite Playlist) is rewriting the script.

Hollywood, impressed by the massive first-weekend success of High School Musical 3, is rushing a number of music-based projects into production.
