Favorite Radio Stations

I have been an avid radio listener, mainly at work, especially recently. During my college years and recently, radio became a big part of my life.

The two stations that I tune into the vast majority of the time are:

KTBZ: 94.5 The Buzz -- Hard Rock (Aerosmith, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, etc), Metal (Alice In Chains, Metallica), Alternative (Linkin Park, Nickelback, Puddle of Mudd, Seether, etc), Punk Rock (Green Day, Offspring, etc), and some Soft Rock.

KHMX: Mixed 96.5 -- Alternative (Linkin Park, Evanascence, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nickelback etc), Soft Rock, Pop/AC (Matchbox Twenty, Kelly Clarkson, Maroon 5, Colbie Caillat, Gavin DeGraw), some Country/Southern (Kid Rock, Uncle Kracker, and Rascal Flatts), a little R&B (Rihanna and Jordin Sparks), and even some '80s (Def Leppard, Tears For Fears, Bon Jovi, etc)

There are a few others, but usually when the above two are airing commercials.

My favorite station during my teenage years was Y100. 100.3FM "Philadelphia New Music Alternative" and later "Philadelphia's New Rock." In the late 90's it was purchased by Radio One, an urban music radio group, so its days seemed numbered. Finally in 2005 Radio One switched Y100, leaving Philadelphia as the largest market outside of New York without the alternative format. I felt like my arms were ripped off. One of my favorite morning shows "Preston & Steve" moved to another Philadelphia rock station 93.3 WMMR, where I can still listen to their funny show to this day.

So for almost 2 years without my favorite format and fumbling between the rock formats and talk Clear Channel, which I formerly thought was the scum of the earth of a radio group, brought alternative back to Philadelphia. My prayers were answered. I heard a great CC owned alternative station out of Albany, NY that I wished we had down here. We finally got it. Radio 104.5 (WHFF) is now my favorite station.

Radio 104.5 is followed by Star 99.1 in my preference. In just 2 years Star, based out of Zarepeth, NJ broadcasts the Christian genre "Today's family safe hit music" throughout Central NJ into the NYC market. I can just barely get the station here in the Philly burbs since we have the Power 99 (98.9) urban station locally.

93.3 WMMR, a Greater Media rock station with the Preston & Steve Morning Show and 94.1 WYSP (CBS Radio, former Stern Station), harder rock and the Flagship Station of the Philadelphia EAGLES, are my number 3 and 4.

93.3 is great to my local favorite artists in Philadelphia such as IKE and Jealousy Curve. IKE was able to carry a relationship with Preston & Steve from their Y100 days into 93.3. A Wilmington Delaware Top 40 93.7 WSTW has been great for local acts as well.

I don't listen to the Top 40 that brings us the sorry Jonas Bros and Miley. Sorry. I don't do satellite or HD as well. If anything, internet streaming.

By now I am owed a prize from the soft rock station they play at work for all those years of torture, I mean unending support.

Project 96.1 in Atlanta plays just about anything rock and a couple of other styles of music.

89X in Detroit.
Every time I'm in Windsor visiting my girlfriend I always listen to it, there is never a time when I hear a song I don't like on it. Now I just listen to it over the net so I can always hear it.

Other than that, locally I listen to 102.1 The Edge, but there are so many times they throw in an Eminem or other crap song that I have to turn it off. Only good thing about the Edge is their prizes. I once won a $700 gift card for HMV (CD and DVD store for correctly guessing a song)
