I must say that is one awesome looking TV but $2,500 for an 11" is a joke. I only paid $1,200 for my 52" and just saw a 74" for 2,500.

Until next year when the new future of flat screen tv's come out.

Still who would pay that much for an 11" tv. How can you possible enjoy the clarity and sharpness on 11 inches.

I would be more than happy to pay say $5,000 for something like a 50" but it also has to be voice activated otherwise its a waste of money.

^ Amen to that! If it has the name Sony on it, I don't want it at any price. Unless it's free, and then I'll be looking for a sucker to sell it to.

But I wonder if OLED will turn out to be the wave of the future. Plasma was doomed from the start, because by their very nature, they don't last long.

I don't really see anything wrong with Sony selling this. Sure its really expensive but that's because its a new technology. This is really more or less just a proof of concept product anyway. I'm sure they only expect to sell it to tech enthusiast and people with cash to burn. However, products like this are important as they help the entry to market for later (more affordable) generations of their technology. When devloping technologies like this they cant just sit around in a lad perfecting it until it is magically cheap enough for everyone to have one... they really just need to give it a go and try to get the manufacturing and supply costs down. So, I really dont belive this is just Sony being Sony and putting out over priced crap for no reason (which I do belive thats what 90% of their products are).

In anycase even though I would love to have one, I won't be getting myself an OLED for quite some time . Though, I have seen this TV in person (In a store) and it was fairly amazing.

Hey now, I've bought Sony products for years and never had problems with them.

I do think this TV is a joke though. No way I'd buy it, even if money was no object for me.

If I had that kinda money to spend, I'd be buying a huge HDTV.

OLED is the future of flat screen tv's, I got to go to the CES this year and they plan to have a 37'' out buy 2011. I know that is far away but with in 10 years, thats all there is going to be, they are by far the best way to make a tv, of corse, the price will come down, plasmas were like $20,000 when they first came out sooo.

FYI:

Rumor: Panasonic to Have 37-Inch OLED Panels on Sale By 2011?

Two things:
1. SONY makes good products.
2. Everyone who is freaking out about the price needs to recognize that its only because its the new technology. 95+% of the people out there will NOT buy this TV. The 5% who will have too much money for their own good and will buy it simply because they feel they have to have the newest and greatest technology, no matter how ridiculous it may seem at this early phase. Its like the people who waited for IPhones on the first day and spent money out the ars for them.

All that said, its a cool TV. But no way in heck I'd buy one anytime in the near future, not until they're bigger and cheaper.

Sony may make good products, but they do NOT make good products exclusively.

I had a car stereo from them that was a steaming turd. In fact, I still have it, because just throwing it away isn't good enough. It needs a high powered rifle shot, then mashed in a 15 ton arbor press.

That's surprising to me.

I've bought a surround sound system, 5 disc changer, 2 boom boxes (don't know if they still call them that or not), a portable CD player or two and my 32 inch flat screen TV.

All of them lasted well beyond what most stuff lasts these days. The first boom box lasted like 15 years before I finally had to trash it. The CD changer is now probably 12-15 years old and still works. The second boom box is about 5 years old now and humming right along.

Same here, I bought a video camera, and different music players from them over the years. None of them broke or just died, they last for years before I bought a replacement simply because technology was better (like replacing my CD player for an IPOD and such)
