Well this was posted on yahoo news and I found it interesting. Disney does 3-D with `Toy Story,' `Beast' reissues What do you guys think of re-making or doing per say of disney movies in 3-d? Personally, I don't get the 3-d thing at all. I guess having an astigmatism in both eyes, they don't see things like most peoples. (If that makes sense) But, I think it's a great idea though.

If Walt Disney were alive today to see his company, he would cry. What happened to the glory days of the original Beauty and the Beast? What happened to the original Toy Story? Mulan? Hunchback? (My personal favorite.)

I knew about the Toy Story 3D re-release, but others are news to me. I'm going to have to start buying all the old Disney movies on DVD anyway, not sure if I'd want them 3D or not.

To me, only movies that were specifically meant to be 3D even look remotely good in it. Even so, it gets annoying after a while. Most of the time Disney's "digital 3D" isn't even 3D at all, but just a blurry picture you need glasses to clear up. However, I have to give a nod to Disney, they know how to pull in the money. Every little kid, including my brother, will scream and cry until they get the new release just because its in "3Dzzz!!1!1!!!1!".

I don't have kids so I don't care yet about it. I'm not particularly an adult Disney fan.

I wouldn't mind seeing some of the Pixar Disney movies in 3D. RealD looks amazing and I think some of those movies could look amazing. I'm all for it. Afterall, it's just another vision of the film. The original is still there for anyone who wants to see that.

I'm guessing no one in this thread has actually seen the new breed of 3-d movies out. I saw Coraline in 3-d, and it was phenomenal. You wear what appears to be just regular sunglasses. The image is not blurry at all, and you really after awhile forgot you were wearing sunglasses, or that it was in 3d, because it just worked so seemless. I suggest you guys check out Monsters vs. Aliens in 3d to really appreciate the new technology they have for 3d.

3D is just the next step in cinema. Without it, people would have virtually NO reason to go to a theatre anymore as technology has advanced home theatre to near the quality of general cinematic presentations. Disney has always been a frontrunner with technology, there is no reason for them to NOT release movies in 3D. Animated classics, however, are a different story. Pixar wants to re-release Toy Story and Toy Story 2 in 3D leading up to the future release of Toy Story 3, so that is understandable... but I see no reason for Disney to open the vault to release classic 2-dimensional animation in 3D. The theatre I work at is in the process of installing a second Real D screen, along with 2 more screens in the area. With digital cinema projection technology, virtually any DVD/BluRay can be played on the big screen just as it was when it was initially released. You cannot say the same thing of 3D. |
