Guitar Hero 5

Quote:
Santa Monica, CA – May 18, 2009 – Guitar Hero continues to re-define the music and gaming experience this Fall with the release of Guitar Hero 5. Featuring the best variety and biggest rock stars of today combined with classic rock anthems, Guitar Hero 5 is the latest installment of the world’s most popular music game. For the first time ever, players can customize the make-up of their band by rocking with any combination of instruments in-game: whether it be two guitars and two drums, or three guitars and a microphone, any combination is possible, allowing players to experience music their own way. Brand new, innovative, easy-to-use gameplay modes like Party Play and RockFest put fun, competition and control at center stage as fans tailor the Guitar Hero experience to match their personal style and interests. For extended hours of entertainment, downloadable content from Guitar Hero® World Tour will be compatible with the game and will automatically be updated to include all of the upgrades and enhancements of Guitar Hero 5.*

Guitar Hero 5 features the strongest, most varied set list to-date comprised of master tracks from 85 of the hottest bands of today and the biggest classic acts including; Kings of Leon, The Rolling Stones, The White Stripes, Santana, Vampire Weekend, Tom Petty, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, plus more than 25 artists from a variety of music genres that will be making their music video game debut.

“Guitar Hero is the music platform for today because it celebrates the social nature of music and brings fans closer to the music and artists they love while allowing them to share and discover music with their friends, family and online communities,” said Dan Rosensweig, president and chief executive officer of Guitar Hero.

Among the first-time-ever features of Guitar Hero 5 are: Party Play, where players can jump in or drop out of gameplay seamlessly; RockFest, a comprehensive competitive experience available featuring five new head-to-head modes playable online or in your living room; and the ability to play the entire set-list from the first time the game is turned on.

Guitar Hero 5 refines the player experience, enhances the art style and redesigns core features such as GHMusic StudioSM, making it the most accessible, fun-to-play and authentic experience for seasoned music gamers as well as first-time players. New innovations such as Band Moments, where bands are rewarded for hitting special note streams together and song challenges where gamers are tasked to play through a song a specific way, add a new competitive layer of excitement and accomplishment to the music rhythm genre.

Published by Activision Publishing, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI), Guitar Hero 5 is being developed by Neversoft Entertainment for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system, and by Vicarious Visions for the Wii™ system from Nintendo. Budcat is developing Guitar Hero 5 for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system. The game is not yet rated by the ESRB. For more information about Guitar Hero 5, please visit GuitarHero.com

Sounds pretty sweet to me. There's so many bands I would love to see in the game finally, especially from Canada. Bands like finger eleven, Billy Talent, Our Lady Peace, and TONS of other great Canadian acts should definitely be put on the game.
I really like how you can have two or more of the same instruments playing together instead of always just the guitar, base, drums, and mic.

I'll probably pick it up.

I'm glad I didn't buy GH4 yet. This sounds great. At the rate these are being put out though, maybe I should wait for the inevitably more awesome GH6.

The whole "Hit colored dots at the right time" thing is really starting to dry out with me. I got Guitar Hero 3 and liked it, but I have absolutely no desire to buy new Guitar Hero or Rock Band games.

Three Days Grace would be awesome.

There have been a few songs announced so far:
The Rolling Stones – "Sympathy for the Devil"
Bob Dylan – "All Along The Watchtower"
The White Stripes – "Blue Orchid"
Santana – "No One To Depend On (LIVE)"
Vampire Weekend – "A-Punk"
Tom Petty - "Runnin Down a Dream"
Johnny Cash – "Ring of Fire"
Kings of Leon – "Sex on Fire"

Kyle, I know what you mean. Sometimes I get bored just playing alone, but when I'm with friends or family, we can play for hours. It's the perfect get together game.

Meh I've got no desire for Guitar Hero, I'll just stick to Rock Band. It's nice that GH is catching up to Rock Band and making WT DLC work with 5, but until GH lets you export music off past games the amount of music you can play on one disk still falls way short of Rock Band 2.

IMO I'd also rather spend 60 bucks on 30 DLC songs as off the disc I would be rather shocked to see 30 songs I like, the DLC model for the Rock Band franchise really works for me add in all the songs I exported from Rock Band 1 (which you can find for like 10-15 bucks) and I've got over 150 songs to play on one disk. Speaking of DLC, Schools Out by Alice Cooper comes out on my last day of school... win.

Right...cause you've never played/owned a Guitar Hero game.

V2kid, Guitar Hero came first. Rock band is essentially Guitar Hero with rectangular notes, and I don't care if they came out with drums first...Guitar Hero still was first.

^Exactly. People keep saying that GH copied RB, when it's really the other way around.

^^What? No Three Days Grace or Breaking Benjamin?

I know, the absence of some bands is very annoying.
I'm getting pissed that there are tons of great Canadian bands that keep getting ignored. I always request bands like Billy Talent, Three Days Grace, Finger Eleven, and tons more on the GH website.

There might only be 84 bands. I have a feeling, unless they said something, that a band is going to have two songs.

Just pointing out that the developer(Harmonix) behind Rock Band was also the developer behind the first two and a half Guitar Hero Games...

Also, band list looks decent. I'll have to wait and see for songs, but right now it looks good. Certainly better than GHWT.

It's kind of strange how they repeat many of the bands of the previous games, but most of those I'm a big fan of so I'm ok. Rush is great, so I'll take about any of their songs.

The only thing I really prefer about Rock Band 2 to GH is that the gameplay style is much closer to actually being in a band. If you were in a band, you would repeat your songs every night. You wouldn't play a new song every night. Plus I like the challenges as well, which I'm only about half way done with at this point.

I love both, so I'll be buying GH5 when it does come out.

Oh, and I'm planning on buying greatest hits or whatever its called, and Rock Band Beatles.

Yeah, and Gran Turismo came first, but now GT is having to catch up to Forza. Just because one series came first doesn't mean that its competitor didn't come and improve the genre in a way that the original will have to implement to stay competitive.
