| New Apple Stuff: iPhone 3GS and Snow Leopard
Today Apple announced two items: The much anticipated "iPhone 3GS" and the refinement of the current Mac OSX Leopard, called "Snow Leopard". Neither item is anything new in terms of aesthetics or designs. The iPhone 3GS sports upgraded hardware in 16 or 32 GB in Memory. Also, a 3 MP camera. The design is the exact same as the iPhone 3G. It sports a number of new built in features like Movie Editing, Voice Commands (Um, I had that on my old LG Cellphone), and "Enhanced Messaging". Makes me scratch my head...there's nothing new about it since all the new stuff that ships with the phone could be bought on the App Store. My question: Can you cut and paste? The old iPhone 3G is now just $99, while the new 3GS is $199. Snow Leopard is designed to refine the current operating system from Apple, OSX Leopard. It doesn't change too much in terms of design and appearance, but it revamps itself with a ton of new engine fixes for both graphics, CPU, and a lot of small improvements here and there (Faster Shut Down, Sleep, etc.) It also supports 64 Bit now. Thankfully, the upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard is only $29 bucks if you already have Leopard on your machine. Smart move by Apple, cause otherwise I would throw my hands in the air and ask why the hell this stuff isn't just a downloadable update... Also, Apple made some adjustments to their laptop line. They dropped the price of the MacBook Air...if anyone even wants one. They also made a pretty nice addition, a 13" MacBook Pro. Its 1199 which isn't too bad, but what's kind of lame is that it runs on integrated graphics, instead of the discrete graphics. The 15" MacBook Pro got a cheaper addition to the family as well, but it also runs on integrated graphics rather then a separate graphics card (Which is why people buy the Pro in the first place...) All the laptops made the switch to the built in battery that claims to get something like 7 hours of battery life, but its really only about 4. Overall...nothing excitingly new. The iPhone was improved, but in my opinion, not exactly anything to go crazy about. In fact, I'd opt for a older iPhone at $99 bucks instead of the new one. Snow Leopard seems like a update packed on a CD...thanks to whoever had the idea to make it a $29 dollar upgrade. The iPhone is useless to me as long as it's only available with AT&T. If they release it to other carriers, I'll get one the first time the Crackberry hiccups

I think Apple needs to release a version of the iPhone that's a "dumb phone". Meaning, just a iPod with cell phone capabilities, that can be used on any plan. I think that would sell a lot better than the current iPhone. |

I wouldn't want that either.
