Sad day indeed

Its a sad day in the world of entertainment, both Farrah Faucett and Micheal Jackson have died.
I remember watching Charlies Angels as a young lad and enjoying MJ's music in the 80"s...sad day.

With Farrah it was only a mater of time, but Micheal Jackson was a shocker. It is a sad day.

What an awful week for the entertainment business. Ed McMahon on the 23rd, then both Farrah Fawcett and MJ today.

I don't care what anyone says, I think Michael Jackson is one of the most influential people in music today, no matter how crazy he was. It's sad to see him go.

Farrah Fawcett and I share the same home town -- we were both born in Corpus Christi in South Texas, and the news has hit our city really hard. It's sad that we lost one of our own natives, but I'm happy that she was loved and admired around the world. Rest in peace fellow South Texas native.

And also rest in peace Ed McMahon and Michael Jackson.

Agreed. It's also nice to see someone younger who didn't grow up during Michael Jackson's prime (the 80's) still able to appreciate him. There's no way that his numerous #1 songs and hit albums can be ignored by his critics.

I just rode the Sea Dragon swinging ship that Beech Bend got from Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch ride auction.

Colorado Adventure at Phantasialand was really known as "Colorado Adventure - The Michael Jackson Thrill Ride".

My Sea Dragon cycle video. I had to get close to the loading platform to get the ride's music in.

As one of the biggest Jackson fans I am shocked and sad that I won't get to see him in concert as I was hoping he would decide to do a chicago concert in the near future...

I don't feel the same as everyone else. Had Jacko not become "Wacko," I might have some respect for him.

You're mourning a child molester. Last impressions are lasting impressions. He might have had a good music career, but outside of that, he was scum.

Andrew, I'm like, half with you. Katt Williams spoke the truth in one of his comedy shows, so half of me is really like this:
WARNING: LANGUAGE!

But the other half respects him as an amazing musician...in his heyday. In the present day he was in his twilight, and thing were truly sad. I'll miss him for that, but it's a true shame that his personal life had to tarnish his musical career the way it did.

While I'm not old enough to really be an experienced 80's guy, I fondly remember growing up with his music. I lived in L.A. during late eighties and early nineties. I remember his "Captain EO" show at Disneyland. And of course, popping on Thriller on the record player...vinyl.

I still have the Thriller Vinyl.

Yesterday was one of those days that when you don't have the latest cell phone and what not, you are totally out of touch.

I got home from the gym and Wal-Mart and called a friend about something random. He said he was watching CNN and I said why or something. He said Michael Jackson had died. I did a double take. It took a second to sink in.

Both Farrah and Michael were part of my early years: Farrah on Charlie's Angels and Michael of course for Thriller.

What is strange is about the time that it is reported he collapsed, I had started to listen to Thriller on my iPod. I don't know what possessed me to listen to it, because I haven't listened to it in a while.

Not to discount Farrah's death in any way, but it's sad that in my short 37 years we've seen the king of rock and the king of pop both die young. And when you get to be my age, 50 is young.

Michael was a brilliant artist back in the 70s and 80s, but his fame just seemed to consume him and he totally lost touch with reality, if he ever did have it to begin with.

I feel for both families and my heart and prayers go out to them.

EDIT: One last Michael story and I'll leave it alone: When I was in elementary school, I think 6th grade (before we went to the middle school thing in Charlotte) our gym class was going to learn the Thriller dance moves. We were banned from ever learning them because some parent said Thriller was EVIL!!! lol

EDIT AGAIN OK, I'm just remembering all this junk and probably nobody cares, but oh well. Read anyway youngsters. LOL

Jackson's Neverland Ranch actually had a Carowinds connection. His train that you probably saw in video that Martin Brechere (sp?) had filmed for his interview, was actually Melodia, which was one of 2 trains that ran at Carowinds in the 70s. Don't know how he got hold of it, that would be an interesting story in itself, to me anyway.

I'd just like to point out that he was never found guilty of actually being a child molester.

Yes, he DID become a very bizarre person with a strange personal life. But the media drove him to that point, and now the media has driven him to death.

Regardless of his personal life, he was one of the most influential music artists of all time, and he should be remembered for that and not the final years of his life.

By the way, (not directed at you, Andrew, but all the stupid comments I am seeing on Facebook) making Michael Jackson jokes was incredibily old like, 5 years ago. Anyone who makes them NOW just instantly says "I have no class, no sense of humor of my own, and I am a pawn to whatever the media wants me to think."

No one talking about Ed McMahon too? I remember seeing his legendary introduction of Johnny Carson back in the days, and being his sidekick. And seeing him and Dick Clark pair up to host some of the best bloopers shows on television. He expired just a day or two before Farrah and Michael did and at the age of 86 years.
RIP Ed McMahon.

Jerri Neilson FitzGerald died last week as well. She's someone to actually look up to rather than nonsense celebrities like the others that died this week.

My girlfriend texted me the news while I was on the train to Ottawa. I didn't believe her at first and waited until I heard it from another friend.
Sure, he got weird in his later years, but before that, he was one of the biggest and most respected musicians out there.

RIP

It's only been one day and the media is already about to drive me crazy.

The bad part is that you can't even go to Hardees now and not have a flat screen TV blaring the news at you. lol

You can look at all the negatives you want; but we're also mourning the loss of the most influential and biggest music star of our generation.

When people die you remember them for their good contributions; not their downfalls.

He didn't influence MY music. He was (to me) tolerable to decent up until "Man in the Mirror" and positively unlistenable afterwards. Guilty of the molestation or not, in recent years he became nothing more than a train wreck.

I DO understand that many loved his music and that he was a huge influence. I'm just not into the canonization movement that seems to be going around.

I also remember the Michael Jackson riding a rollercoaster sketch on SNL. It was just a continuous loop of the Tremors rollercoaster at Silverwood in the blue screen background.
