A&E's Airline

Well, it's nothing like the Airplane movies, well, kinda sorta. You have the humor and the drama, and I LOVE IT.

I really feel bad for the employees of Southwest who do their job, and then get slapped in the face by ignorant customers who don't listen when they are being told the answer. Wait a second, that sounds a lot like my job at Cedar Point !

I got to admit though, this is one of the best reality shows out there (seeing as this IS the new trend of TV). I mean, you have opposing forces going at each other (customers vs. Southwest) at every possible moment. I do love the ticket counter supervisor (forgot which airport she works in, but she's on EVERY episode)! She is so cool when she does her job! Then there was the drunken musician that wanted to get on. It's like reading a park's policies, read the back of your ticket so you know not to get trashed at the bar and get denied on the flight! Some of the things people do are plain stupid. I mean, usually you carry something around identifying your children, right?! Then they don't have any proof of their kid's age or anything so they can't get the free ticket. Wow... this is just as much drama, if not more than we go through as ride ops!

Very impressed with this series and what A&E has done with it. They should go with Northwest next season, or maybe JAL for international flights. That would be coolness!

Southwest = the best airline. Who else can turn a profit in the airline industry while their competitors are asking the government for money? Not only that, but I wouldnt get to go on my annual coaster trips if it wasnt for their cheap fares. I could fly into Cleveland for $99 on SWA or I could fly for $700 on Continental. There's a tough decision..

Do you work for them? Cheap airlines are very very useful, but are definatly more likely to delay or cancel flights, or arrive late. Depends on where you are going....

Actually, Southwest is very good about being on time and things. The only thing they're not good about is selling the right amount of tickets. Almost every flight I've been on with them is oversold.

I liked the show at first but after a few episodes got bored. Why? Because they really don't show anything new. It's just the same basic scenerios over and over again. Drunk guy/girl gets denied boarding. Bag gets lost and person freaks out. Parents get told they have to buy a ticket for their infant.

A much better show, IMO, is Airport. You can watch it on Discovery Wings. It's about operations in and around Heathrow airport.

I agree. Airport is clearly the superior show, because there are so many more aspects of the industry to be looked at besides front-line operations.

I think the woman who works for Air Cyprus that they feature a lot is hott.

No, I dont work for them. I just think they do a very good job. True, they do overbook flights, but usually it isnt too bad. At least they get them booked, right? I really have only 2 complaints about southwest. The first is that I dont like flights with stops. Not only does it take longer, but i dont like the frequent altitude change. Makes me sick. Secondly, they dont serve food. But that isnt so bad, really. You can take your own that you purchased in the terminal, or you can eat their peanuts and cheese nips and wait till you're on the ground. They do sometimes serve a snack pack with many different items. They are rarely delayed. They have the shortest landing to gate time of any airline. Why? Because it saves money and fuel. And their pilots are usually amusing because they are ex-Military pilots.

I watch A&E's Airline show from time to time. I don't go out of my way to watch---only if I stumble upon the show. I love watching stupid and/or drunk people get denied access, discounts, or any other privilege.

I couldn't do some of those airline jobs. Sure I'd love to mess with the drunks (i despise drunks), but that would get old pretty quick.

I've never seen it, I haven't even heard of it.

Also, discount airlines are the way to go. They offer better prices and service than the big airlines, they just don't have meals and other useless stuff.

*sniff sniff* I've heard a lot abou Airport. Only if the rents would pay the extra $10 to go to Cox Digital maybe I could get some of the better channels out there! They even have the Anime Channel down here now! Anyways, at least the show (Airline) is more watchable than The Apprentice... *sigh* SO BORING. Just another way for Trump to advertise everything he owns to the world.

Back to the subject, maybe they should switch airlines. I'm sure that companies have differing policies. You know what I would like to see out of Airline? Maybe focus on the flight crew every couple of episodes and tape a show on the airplane? That would be cool.

Every once in a while Discovery Wings will show a documentary called "The Secret World of Air Freight." I thought that was pretty cool, I suppose you could call it the freight counterpart to "Airline." So much goes into air freight and it's actullay a lot more interesting than I thought.

Discovery Wings = the winnar

I saw the commerical with this guy that stunk so bad, the threw him off the flight before he got back on. It looks like a funny show.

^ last night's show was pretty funny. Southwest overbooked a flight by 53 passengers. That should be illegal. Needless to say, those "overbooked" people were really, really mad and I don't blame them.

One rather large individual was told he'd have to buy an extra seat. He protested and showed an attendant that he could fit within one seat. Another large individual was not as lucky and had to buy an additional seat.

The rest of the show had the same scenerios with different people. I still laughed at the drunk guy who was not allowed to board.

LOL I have to agree about the overbooking. Though, be as it might be, SW is notorious for overbooking the flights and it's a very common thing (though not 53 people!!) that happens usually every other show, but only to 5-10 seats. I was suprised at the amount of seats overbooked!

Gotta love the drunks! They all seem to put up a different fight! Pure entertainment at it's drunken-est.

I would have just refused the guy service. You're expected to be somewhat hygenic these days.

Yeah, I have little tolerance for human slobs.

I have to agree with the fact that it was because it was on television.

Hmm, I don't know. Customer service on airlines is becoming really high end, even for coach seats. So, if the media shot a show at Cedar Point, and I helped to walk someone to first aid or something out of my job title, would it be just for TV? Not really becuase I do that anyways :P. I might be biased, but some of the things on the show the airline employees go WAY out of the way to help get people on flights in 2 minutes or getting things under control. I really can't say that she did it just for TV and to make it look better...

I think any airline would probably make the person clean themselves up or refuse service if not on TV. One customer complaint versus five... hmm, choices, choices.

Im actually thinking of working for SWA this summer as one of the people out on the tarmac who load baggage. I mean, you get to drive those little buggies around. Of course, the work would get sorta old..but so does most work. Of course, they have to be hiring before I can work for them.

The show is not bad, though I wish they would do more behind the scenes stuff. There is a lot more to an airline than just the ticket and gate counters. The episode with the ramper doing the push-back with all of the obstacles was pretty good. They could show what goes on at the flight ops dept., more maintenance and ramp issues, or how a crew handles a flight through bad weather. Perhaps they will, but they seem to be obsessed with drunk passengers at this point.

I've only seen one episode (of the A&E series), but judging from posts here, Airport is superior.

Drunk people = top quality entertainment. Just head over to MTV during spring break. They make thousands off of drunks.

Both shows are good. After having done customer service jobs for many years (Theme Park/Movie Theatre Manager/Retail Manager), I sympathize with the employees who have to be so nice to such morons.

My biggest problem with Airline is that I start yelling at the TV from watching how stupid these passengers are. The people who are threatening to sue over their luggage being damaged, and being on overbooked flights, etc...YOU ARE FLYING A DISCOUNT AIRLINE PEOPLE! If you want to make sure you have a seat, fly an airline that assigns seats, and book YOUR seat before the flight. I fly discount airlines (like America West and Spirit) all the time, and I book online and choose a seeating assignment before the trip. It may cost a few dollars more than SW, but I know I'm going to have a seat on my flight. If it's that important that you have to make a certain flight at a certain time (for business especially) spend the extra money to get assigned seating, or if you are going to fly Southwest, get to the airport early so you're not ther one who gets bumped from the flight.

They keep showing these morons who have to be somewhere for business and are going to lose all this money if they don't get there on time, but they got a $99 ticket, and show up 15 minutes before the flight and can't figure out why they don't have seats available. This is how SW has managed to make money while no one else can, is by FILLING all its flight (through overbooking). This is basically a flying Greyhound Bus, and you get what you pay for.

And luggage will always start to get damaged from the first time you use it...the conveyors and carousels catch on the nylon...it's a fact of life, get over it! And with all the new security with bags, it's not always the airline's fault. Especially the broken locks on suitcases when the rules are that you cannot lock suitcases so they can be inspected by the NTSA. If something is that valuable or personal, send it through the mail to get there when you get there, and don't have them throw it into the bottom of a plane. Jeez these people are idiots!
