What the h*ll are you talking about? Titanic was crap. Great special effects, but come on. It was a romance movie that was predictable and bland. Now the LOTR's movies were epic tales that were engaging and I can see watching again and again. Titanic is gonna be one of those movies that tons of people bought and are never gonna watch again.

Ok, I've calmed down. Titanic was ok and was marketed very well. It obviously did something right since it is the highest grossing movie of all time. I just think there are better and more deserving movies out there that should have garnered the top spot, had they had the same marketing behind them. I guess LOTR's just needed a sappy love ballad sung by crappy Canadian singer to put them over the top.

after i noticed the trend in those grosses, i have come to the conclusion that money hungry people will make a 4th lord of the rings. just cause its destined to grab the top spot, and stay there for quite some time.

go ROTK, go titanic. any movie that rightfuly deserves to be there is. the numbers speak.

edit: super go finding nemo!!! all the rest are based off, or at least lossely based off books and such, finding nemo is an orginal story is it not? if it is, it gains the most respect for me, cause its hard enough to have of the highest grossing movies of all time. even harder when its orginal.

I had no idea it had grossed so much money already, and I really hope something beats Titanic.

Well being based on a true and devestating storie sort of helped it a bit there buddy. I don't personally like titanic too much (maybe it is cause my mom was obsessed and watched it every night for 2 months ) I do, however, think it deserves its spot at the top. It was a very well done movie with a great actor and a great plot to add to the real life story behind it.

Edit: I'm so glad that all 3 movies are in the top 10, let alone ROTK being in second. It is just amazing. I love LOTR and it deserves everything it is getting. I just hope it gets the Oscar award for Best Motion Picture ::fingers crossed::

I know this is off subject a little bit, but it's pointless to start a new thread about it. Does anyone have any idea when a complete box set will be released for all three?

probably a few weeks after the release of ROTK on dvd. i'm sure the'll milk the sales of that by itself before they release the complete box set. that way in the end everyone will own about three copies of each movie.

don't you love merchandising ploys

Yes, Return of the King has exceeded the one billion dollar mark. Congradulations to the number one movie of all time for making it this far. Lord of the Rings is being hailed as the greatest movie event in recent history, RotK is poised to sweep the Oscars on Sunday, now if it could top Titanic, that'd be a crowning achievement. Well, just a little more then 800 million to go.
Just as a little side note, in the Top #250 list at www.imdb.com, Return is #4, Two Towers is #5, and Fellowship is #8. Titanic didn't come anywhere near placing.

I say Titanic sucked. The movie was far too drawn out. LOTR deserves to be up there and I guess Harry Potter for effects and such. Finding Nemo should be higher but it's okay. I liked the movie far more than I liked a lot of movies I saw last year. Nemo is just a great movie...

Nemo is a good movie but it shouldn't be recognized as as something extraordinarly brilliant, like you are basically saying. It was "cute" and the effects were great.

These are the World wide totals correct?

And as for myself, I wouldn't mind if it beat Titanic. I liked Titanic, but ROTK is by far my favorite of the two. Titanic in some ways made a lot of it's money off of repeat viewings by teenage girls.
