This is what happens when you live in a boring town.

Friday night me and two friends were bored as hell and broke. Our initial intent was to buy a bag of weed...but we had a combined total of around five bucks so we decided to seek an alternet form of entertainment. Just recently our local arcade closed and they put in a Chuck E. Cheese...so we figured, hey lets go there and play some video games. This sounded like fun...and then we tried to get in and there was a guy standing there with a velvet rope, he carded us. Aparently you have the be 18 to get in without an adult. We thought this was crap...so not having anything better to do we got poster bored and a sharpie and made protest signs. We went back and protested, complete with slogans and songs. Eventually security came and told us to leave so we went back the next day with more people. This time, the paper showed up and now were on the front page.

Best part:

Quote:
"There are tons of bad things teenagers could be doing at any moment," he said. "We don't think playing video games at an establishment is one of them. We want to show people that not all teenagers are disruptive."
And from your earlier post:

Protest against them for what??? Giving children something fun to do?

And people, if you're bored....don't smoke weed, eat brownies instead.

Guys, we need to keep the focus of the thread on protesting Chuck E. Cheese, not weed.

I'm glad they protested because you have to be 18 to go to Chuckie Cheese with out a Adult. I think that it is stupid because kids want to go there not some one that is 18.

Although I wouldn't advise nor suggest it, Chuck E Cheese would be one crazy place to get high. Those crazy animatronic characters would scare the hell out of some stoners.

Lets count how many child molestors are younger than 18. The rule should be anyone over 18 needs a kid (18 and under) to get in.

I'm 18 though, so I have no real reason to protest it.

Why is it stupid? It's intended for small kids. You wouldn't suggest that 5 year olds should go to Chuck E Cheese® by themselves, would you? It's not intended as a hangout for teenagers to be there without a parent. If you ever have kids, help raise kids, or even babysit, you'll understand.

I've been there by myself before... Although my party i was meeting was there.. And i'm under 18. I was 14 when i went in it. No one asked me my age or for ID or anything. Thats odd. They just said, Welcome to Chuck E Cheese! And ignored me to go and respond ot the thousands of little children parading around the rooms.

Chuckie Cheese's has a crazy lock-down child safety system. You have to practically register your child when you enter the place, equipped with blacklight handstamps and nametags. Also, I believe that after a certain time of night, adults over a certain age are not allowed to enter without a child of their own. And there are also generally 2 people manning the front door to check each child that comes in and leaves.

As a parent of 2 kids under 10, I'm going to take a view that most of you are probably not going to like. One of the reasons that we really like to go to Chuck E. Cheese is for this exact reason- that the place isn't overun by teens there on their own without an adult. It means that we don't have to worry about our kids getting shoved off the machines or out of the play areas by older kids that are there just to run wild. Such as ones that were looking for something to do and couldn't afford their bag of weed for the weekend. :P

Seriously, I realize that a lot of teens aren't going to go there and cause problems. But there are enough troublemakers out there that would, especially if their parents didn't have to be there, that this helps make sure that doesn't happen. If all that you really wanted to do was play the video games, would it really have been that difficult to get one of your parents to take you? Shoot, I've even accompanied a few teens from the youth group that I work with when they wanted to go- because I knew they would behave responsibly while they were having fun.

So count me on the big rat's side!

Oh, the "security" checkpoint they have is that everyone in your party gets a handstamp with the same number on it- a different number for each group. Then they check the numbers on the hands when you leave to make sure that kids aren't leaving with someone different than they came in with. Makes it a bit more secure since the kids aren't going to be leaving with a stranger that way.

Thats exactly how it is here.

You honestly belive that a 16 year old and two 17 year olds should have to call their parents to come sit with them in an arcade/pizza place?

Sir Willow does have a valid point though. If I were a parent I'd be worried about my kids getting tossed about at the expense of older children. And there are other places older kids can spend their time. (Dave and Busters for example) and Im sure there are places like Mountaisa or Celebratoin Statoin everywhere. Have a great evening everyone!
