Did anyone participate in the Channel One Mock Vote for president?

http://channelone.com/election_2004/results/
My school did.

"Click the buttons to see how your part of the country voted, watch Team OneVote members face off on election issues in our Web-exclusive video, and see the chart at the bottom of this page for a state-by-state breakdown of the votes.

American teens have spoken, and they want George W. Bush for president. Nearly 1.4 million teens voted in the nation's largest mock election, and the Republican incumbent wound up with 393 electoral votes and 55 percent of the total votes cast.

Democratic challenger Sen. John Kerry received 145 electoral votes, far short of the 270 electoral votes needed to win a presidential election. Kerry received 40 percent of the total votes, while five percent of teens selected the third-party option, though no third-party presidential hopefuls managed to pick up any electoral votes.

In an exit poll taken after making their pick for president, teens weighed in on the issues most important to them. A majority of respondents-- 44 percent-- said that the war in Iraq was the most important issue facing the candidates today. The economy was the first priority in the minds of 22 percent of teens, followed by education (14 percent), national security (12 percent) and health care (8 percent).

For a more detailed look at how teens around the country made their choice, take a look at the chart below."

I voted for Bush. Discuss.

http://channelone.com/election_2004/...html?mode=stop- Electoral votes. Bush won about everyone state, except California and some Northeastern states.

I forgot to vote, but I saw the results this morning. My whole homeroom got up and started cheering except for 1 kid. It was great. Hopefully the real election turns out that way.

My school didn't do the Channel One thing, but is that what Channel One was about today? I didn't watch it fully. My school is participating in another Mock election for something, though.

I hate Channel One, personally. We watch it at 9:30, our break time, and they make us sit and watch it, instead of having break, which is what that 10 minutes is intended for!

Yeah, the only thing channel one showed was the mock vote results and that. Channel one can be intresting some times. I have the choice to watch it. We watch during 3rd period and since we don't have a T.V. in our room, we have to put it in the hall way) and then everyone watches it. Sometimes i watch it, and some times I don't. I mostly spend the time, finishing up my math homework from the night before.

^We don't technically have TV's either. Our school has no money, because they put stuff into the new high school they built, that was not needed. We have Smartboards in every classroom, and the computer labs, too. Smartboards are basically giant projector screens, that are TV's, and computers, as well. So we watch Channel One on these.

My school is doing this on the 28th, which I imagine is pretty much the same, except it focuses on other elections as well, such as governor, senate, and congressional representative.

How old is the Channel One newscast? From what you just said, chiller, It must be pretty old. I think It is great to show news to kids all across the U.S. during school. I love to watch the play of the week on Fridays.

OMG. I didn't know that Channel One was that old. I was thinking it was about 3 or years old. Not more than 14 years(dating back since Hurricane has seen it). Has anyone else see Channel One before 1991?

I'm gonig to be outspoken here even though it risks flaming for the next 3 months. Any teen who cheers for bush is just messed up. You can't possibly believe this is good for your country. When you do some history when you get past 14 you will see that most students are not conservative, that students are a huge influnenece in protests for things becasue they care at that age and are opptimistic for change.

If you think backward conservatism at that age is good you obviously have no job prospects and this is your best chance.

It goes against everything that being young is about. It goes against what most other young people think. Its just sad and pathetic.
Its ignorant - you think a little bit lower tax will help you.

The only people this helps is rich old people who don't see why they should pay tax for universities and schools. Conservatism is not a progressive society, its the complete opposite. That 55% of young people voted for bush is frightening. I only hope that it is ignornace that they did this, and that when they get to voting age they will see how wrong they are. I think most will - your views change as you grow up, trust me. Most are infleneced by their parents which would explain the result a bit.

To have this views is sad becasue it shows you have no hope for the future (maybe some of you don't) and its just pessimistic.

Tax cuts won't help your economy. They will cut schools funding and the economy will suffer in 20 years time when all the countries that did fund their schools will get all the jobs. Thats a very likely. Oh well - more jobs for me.

It was just a freaking mock vote. Who cares who we voted for. I feel strongly about bush and thats that. Not like we are going to be voting for the president this year. The mock vote was only for high school students I belive.

I cheer for Bush, he's the best choice we have in this election. My HS is Fully-blooded Republican, as is my county, and my state. Kerry will only screw things up worse, and we really don't want that.

Teens of today are trying to seperate ourselves from the previous two generations, Protesting Hippies, one in all.

Yeah skye, Anarchy rULeZ!!!!!!!

I'm glad to see teens that aren't just thinking, "**** the government." They've become more realistic and would rather have a say in it, instead of trying to get rid of it.

Channel 1 tries to influence people... I hated watching it with a passion in HS, and they were all ditzy reporters, though the only cool moment was where they showed one of their reporters getting robbed and the dumb look on his face.

I'm not surprised about their mock election, in all honesty, because Channel 1 is like Fox News.

I guess you were never a teenager. Most teens would do the total opposite of their parents just as an act of rebellion. If that's what you call intelligent....I don't know what to say. Maybe they voted the way they did because that's what they feel. Also kids and teenagers are mosre influenced by MTV and the many artists and their liberal views. You see it everywhere with many stars and not to mention Michael Moore and his movie Farhenheit 9/11. I know of many teens who saw the movie and then went around speaking about it as if it was the greatest thing they ever seen.

Your point about young people and that's the time they should rebel is silly. You're saying they should be liberal just because that's they way of young people or some such nonsense???

Actually my parents are quite conservative; i'm not. But that was a minor point in my post. I thought of leaving it out.....this is the key part of the point i was trying to make:

Except the picture of what being a youth is "about" is only in your mind. I don't think that what its all about.

Exactly what I'm saying. You're the opposite of your parents, that's what my point was. That's your only reason for mentioning it. It contradicts what you said about young people following their parents lead. My point was that kids/teens follow other sources such as MTV and Hollywood, last would be their parents.

We don't agree on much, but this is one of the worst things you have ever said, it lacks any sense. You're basically saying that young people should be liberals at that age just for the sake of being liberal....because it's the thing to do??? That what "being young is about"? So you're saying that being liberal minded as a teen has more to do with being a follower and choosing to vote Democrat not for the issues but because that's what society says to do??? That's really intelligent

How about letting people (including teens) make the choice they want and not critisize or patronize them just because that choice doesn't agree with you. I consider myself a Republican and don't agree with many liberal views or most Democrats in general but I don't put down those who do believe in that. I might disagree with them or even argue but I won't insult them for wanting to vote the way they want to vote. That's part of being American, having those rights without the risk of being persecuted.

This mock election is complete crap. I for one have never seen Channel One news but if what Steven said about it being like fox is true then its viewers are greatly misinformed and thus the people who voted in this mock election have been seeing republican propaganda from their beloved channel one news... sorry, that’s what fox is like anyway...

Also I urge you to not base your opinions just from what you see on TV, in fact I would suggest that maybe you don’t rely on TV since it tends to have some bias to it. Maybe you should go to BOTH the candidates’ web sites and read about what they stand for your self. Then you decide which candidate will be better for YOU. Common you can make a decision for yourself. No matter who YOU think is best I only respect you opinion on the matter if you have done this.

Here you go these are the links to the candidates’ web sites. Now read them and become informed.
John Kerry
George Bush

You might also want to check some facts with an independent web site.

Channel 1 came to my high school in 1991 also. As a 13 y/o male, I enjoyed watching Lisa Ling very much.

I'd be curious to see it now, do they still do the trivia question?
