| | | Any John Williams fans? In case you don't know who the heck I'm talking about WIlliams composed the music for all the Star Wars movies, the Indiana Jones trilogy, many different Olympic themes, and many more movies and events. He is very accomplished, and his music is up there among the greatest composers of all time. His most captivating pieces are easily his many arrrangements he did for the many Olympics over the years, and I would have to say his best is Summon The Heroes for the 2002 Winter Olympics. Right now I'm listening to the theme for the 92 Olympics, and loving every second of the song.
I know, I'm a geek.

| | | I'm listening to perhaps one of my favorite movie songs right now, Raiders March. Nice to know I'm not alone. And while we're on the subject of movies, did anyone get to see the Lord of The Rings Symphony that was touring last year? I really wanted to go to that.

| | | I saw The Lord of the Rings Symphony last year with Howard Shore conducting. It's coming back to Pittsburgh again this year and I have tickets to see it next Saturday. I wouldn't miss this concert for the world since I was so moved last year.
Anyway, I feel as though John Williams is overrated anymore. Granted, his stuff from the 70's,80's and early 90's was fantastic but I feel as though his prime is over. Harry Gregson-Williams, Howard Shore and Hans Zimmer have taken over and have done a tremendous job at writing fantastic scores. Check out King Arthur, Kingdom of Heaven, Gladiator, the orchestral portion of Lion King (tracks 7-9), Chicken Run, all of the Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean. These soundtracks are absolutely fantastic and sadly put John William's recent stuff to shame. It seems as though all John Williams writes anymore is background noise with no true theme to be heard. I was HIGHLY disappointed with War of the Worlds - an epic movie with an awful, noisy, no direction score.

| | | I do agree that Howard Shore is fast becoming the John Williams with his enormous work for LOTR, and I do agree that Williams' best stuff for movies basically ended at Jurassic Park, although the symphonies and such he writes now are very good, such as the stuff for the Olympics. It is very inspiring.

| | | I love all of his soundtracks. He's still producing awesome music.
I was almost shocked at how good the music from Harry Potter 1 was. I was thinking well, he's getting older it won't be nearly as good as the old stuff. Wrong.
It's also interesting how both he and Spielberg have never been far apart. Almost all of his films have been scored by Williams.
I have a lot of admiration for his talent and his musical legacy he will leave.

| | | I really like John William's music as well, he's right up there with the best in the industry. Although I certainly haven't seen nearly all of his works (he's done 249 films and T.V. shows with another four on the way), the ones I have seen have some of the best music in any film.
Of course everyone knows his two pieces from the original Star Wars trilogy, the Star Wars theme and the "Imperial March", but there's so many more great pieces of music in those movies, such as the ending of Episode VI, one of my favorites.
With Indiana Jones, again, everyone knows the Indiana Jones theme, but there's some other parts of the scores that should be just as worthy of fame.
With the new Star Wars trilogy, he's added some more excellent pieces to his portfolio. There's Duel of the Fates and The Flag Parade from Episode I and Across the Stars from Episode II, and although I haven't seen Episode III yet, I'm sure it's got some good music in it too.
John William's most underrated score, however, is probably my favorite one of his. While the scores for the first two Harry Potter movies weren't bad, the music in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is William's best work.
As long as we're on the subject, of course, there's Hans Zimmer (Pirates of the Caribbean) and Howard Shore (The Lord of the Rings series), both of whom should be right up there with Williams. There's also a third who isn't nearly so well known, Michael Giacchino. Although most of his work has been for T.V. shows and video games and he hasn't done nearly so much as the more famous composers, his jazzy score for The Incredibles is another favorite of mine.

| | | ^ I love that score running behind the big battle with Darth Maul at the end of Episode I. I can listen to that song all day long.

I like John Williams. He's not half as good as he used to be. Jurassic Park is easily his best. I prefer many other Composers over him when it comes to soundtrack/theme music. John Williams tends to be way too repetitive.
