Madden 2006

Ok, staff I did a search on this so if I am almost positive that there is no existing thread on this topic. Anyway, has anyone played this game yet? I'm thinking of purchasing this but before that I would like to hear a few good reviews or even rent the game.

All I can say is that it's hard to get used to. There are a lot of changes in this one from last year, so it's difficult to get used to. Overall it's a good game though, they changed a lot of flaws in the game. It takes a few tries to get used to that precision passing. Video games used to be so easy, now there is so much to think about.

I love the game!!! The percision passing takes a game or two to get used to it but once you get it down it is easy. I would give it a 9/10.

^I would say yes. I think the last Madden game I bought was '03. There's so much extra within the game you can do. Now, you can create a stadium to the point where you determine how much you rob your fans for burgers, dogs, souvenirs and beer.

Personally, I generally update my NCAA football games every year or two. The 06 version looks to be really sweet.

The only thing I'm not fond of in Madden 06 is the QB Vision feature...It's really hard to get used to and unless your going to pass it to your target everytime, it's difficult to move the vision around to the person you want to pass it to without getting sacked. I turned it off only because theres no point to it, although precision passing is a nice touch. overall, the game is definitely a big change from last years, I can't wait till Madden Next Gen on PS3 though.

Although the first Madden game I ever bought was just back in 2004, I know that there have be a ton of new features added through the years. The two biggest I think is the hit stick on defense and the truck stick on offense...I think these two features have really expanded the games possibilities. And like Andrew was saying, the have really broadened the franchise mode and theres a lot you can do. You can move your team, build stadiums, change prices for parking, tickets, food and souveniors and the new Superstar mode is really unique as well. I think it's worth it to buy the new versions because EA and the Tiburon group do a great job every year adding new features. I mean, it's only 50 dollars a year you have to dish out to buy one game.

I have wanted to play this game since the day it came out. Blockbuster is always out though.

^ Don't they have a guarantee on the game? Usually when a big name game like this comes out, they guarantee it in or it's free. That's strange they don't offer that at the Blockbuster you go to, I see guarantees for it at Blockbuster and Hollywood Video.

I got three copies of it because it's so awesome.

They're called Madden '03, Madden '04, Madden '05.

I can't see getting them every year when they first come out. It gets to be too expensive to buy the same game every year. I wait till the price comes down or just buy the old season for $20 while everyone else is spending $50 for the new one. I've honestly never felt that the nest season's game was so different that it made it worth $50 if you already had the last season.

Is there anyway that you can turn precision passing off and just use the old pasing style?

The reason people buy them every year, like I do is because the different features they have and different game play. If you play as much as I do and your into tourn. and stuff, you cant keep up with everyone using the previous madden. Also online for madden expires as soon as the new one is realesed I believe and that is always fun. Just beware of the cheaters online.

Not all rental stores guarantee it. The Hollywood Video I manage does not guarantee it. Thank goodness, because we have 7 copies per console and they're never in.

Well, I don't think you can turn it off but you can not use it. Just don't push any arrow keys when your passing...I can guarantee it'll be easier for the defenders to pick off the ball if you do that though.

You can turn off the Vision and Precision passing in yoru game settings. I love QB Vision as it brings a whole new element to the game, and makes it much more realistic. The scores are a lot less inflated this year. In the one game I had time to complete versus the CPU, the score was 9-6. I was amazed that I played it so closely and was still happy, even though I lost. I never had a game that low scoring since I started playing Madden fairly heavily with Madden NFL 2003.

If you're a casual Madden player, then the game will never seem like a big deal year after year. If you're a hardcore Madden fan, you can see the big differences from year to year. I believe in 04 they had no major changes in the game, but a bunch of minor improvements. However, due to the vast number of minor tweaks, there was a huge difference in the game play. They try as hard as they can to keep the play experience as different and realistic as possible from year to year.

I a little confused with this QB Vision and Percision Passing thing. I don't have the game yet so it's not that I'm having trouble with the game, I'm just confused how it works. I saw in some screenshots of the game that the QB vision thing is a cone of light and when you pass to someone in that cone of light it is more accurate, but when you pass to someone outside of it it is more likely to be incomplete or possibly be picked off. Are you able to move the QB vision thing aroundor does it move automatically?

You move the vision cone using the right analog stick. You have the accuracy thing correct. You get an accuracy bonus for throwing to a lit up reciever, and a penalty for throwing outside of your vision. When throwing in your vision, you can use precision passing (Throwing the ball high, low, behind, or in front intentionally), but when throwing to a "dark" reciever, you can not do this.

The other thing to remember is that when using the vision, the defence (CPU and Human) can see you staring down the reciever. Move the vision around to throw them off. If you stare someone down, just like IRL, you'll get deflected or picked off.

I finally got the game. I think the gameplay is great, but the graphics aren't as realistic as 2K5. After a ball carrier brakes through the defenders, your defense can't really catch up to him unlike 2K5. Also, why isn't Ricky Williams in the game? Was he signed to Miami after the game was made?

Thanks for your help rj. I understand it a lot better now. Sounds complicated and easy to get sacked with all of the things to do. But it is better this way so you can' drop twenty yards out of the pocket and make a wild pass for a completion like the last couple of Madden games.

I dunno. Not a PS2/XBOX user? Just update with the online rosters if you have PS2 or XBOX.

The question isn't why isn't he in the video game but, why is he in the NFL at all? Either or both the NFL and the Dolphins shouldn't have allowed him back. What a joke he is.

But if it's a big enough issue for you, just create a player and put him on the Dolphins. Just make sure you give him really low ability in most categories since he'll be a mediocre player at best this season. Just watch out if you do create him, if he shows any sign of the munchies. That'll be a telltale sign that he's at risk for getting suspended in your copy of Madden 2006.

Boom! That guy just got smoked-Madden

I really don't like the QB Vision much...It's a lot harder to use it when you have people rushing in while your trying to find someone thats open. It's kinda pointless when your main target is either double covered or even single covered but not in a good position to pass the ball. I tried playing the game a few times with QB Vision on in All-Pro and it was a difficult task. I had to turn it off because it did make me frustrated after I got sacked quite a number of times. I do however love the precision passing, it makes so many passes much more accurate.

BTW, with the QB Vision I think it's really unfair that thers only 2-3 QBs that have huge vision cones. When playing with the Colts you don't even have to move the thing around because the vision cone covers the entire width of the field. That goes with Tom Brady as well. What makes me mad is good QBs like Michael Vick and Ben Roethlisberger have mediocre vision cones. Thats another reason why I turned it off.

I think he was referring to why Ricky Williams isn't in the game. Since this is a Madden 2006 thread. Check out his sentence after that. To answer your question magnum_man, I really don't know. What system are you using to play Madden '06?

I'm using Xbox. I think he signed with Miami after the game was made and they just can't automaticly add him in the roster. He has gained alot of weight though!

That's why you download the online rosters. It'll probably be a few weeks before they remodel him and tweak his attributes appropriately.

Madden obviously sets a deadline for when players are added to teams...And Ricky Williams didn't sign onto the Dolphins early enough to get into the game. This is also why a lot of free agents and rookies aren't in the game as well. Which brings me to my next question, has anyone see Ty Law in 2006 yet? Is he on the free agent list?

I didn't want to put a smiley since I'm quite disgusted by him. He quit on his team last year as well as choosing not to play because he rather sit out and smoke weed. He should be in jail, not on a football field.
