Hey gang not sure if anyone has seen this or not but i think nintendo have just put everyone off the map again for systems with this new controller. they just released the info about it last night in toyko and holy crap it looks awesome and i cant wait to get my hands on revolution http://cubemedia.ign.com/cube/image/...358181-000.jpg and just incase anybodys wondering the a and b buttons on the bottom of it will line up like the original nintendo controler if you turn the remote sideways which means we can play the old games like the original mario when they make it downloadable to SD CARD right after revolutions release next summerhttp://cubemedia.ign.com/cube/image/...927691-000.jpg http://cubemedia.ign.com/cube/image/...930644-000.jpg http://cubemedia.ign.com/cube/image/...852879-000.jpg http://cubemedia.ign.com/cube/image/...313807-000.jpg

You didn't even mention the best part. The controller knows where you are in relation to the screen. It knows what you're aiming at. It knows how fast and what direction you're moving it in. It can be configured into just about anything that the game designer wants. The possibilities are incredible. Want to be Link? Now you are. You're swinging his sword. Want to be a baseball player? Now you are. You're swinging the bat and throwing the pitch. Want to go fishing? Ok, the controller is your pole. Want to play a first person shooter? You're holding the gun. Hungry for some real time strategy games? You've got a mouse in your hand so now you can actually control your troops. The controller can be anything that you want it to be. |

I am of the opinion that this will ge a great device for gaming....you can always rely on Nintendo to try something to alter the gaming world and move away from 'tradition'.

This thing looks wierd to me. How are you supposed to play gamecube or N64 games with only those few buttons? This thing would also take a major amount of time to get used to.

I'm sorry, but that looks stupid to me. It it was just a television remote, then it would be fine, but I just can't imagine playing Mario or a shoot-em-up game with a controller like that. I do like the wireless function though.

I think it has the potential to be terrific. It will all come down to the games though. That said, if they have stick figure fishing on release day, I'll still get one because I know that if anyone can make stick figure fishing fun, it's Nintendo. |

I really don't think that games where you physically move to play the game are very good. For example, the PS2 eye-toy isn't really that much fun. The eye-toy is only amusing when naturally funny people are playing with it at parties.

gosh, i love this controller! if you guys are wondering if this thing can play already established gernes, consider the follwoing... Adventure games (ill use legend of zelda the wind waker as an example) You use the analog stick attachment for movement. you use one of the sholder buttons to L target and swing your right hand to swing, jab it forward to stab, with the parry atack, you could roll your controller to the right (or left) then jab forward!you change weapons to your one of your projectile weapons, need to aim? point your controller and press the trigger on the back of the controller! now take out your windwaker, and you are able to conduct just like you would if YOU were link. to pull up your shield you could pull the contorller back, (like you are pointing to the ceiling) the possibilities are endless! (almost literally with the availibility of a port on the bottom of the controller to attach anything to, like a microphone) some people may ask about the unavailability of buttons, but as i showed above, you dont need many, i only used two. |

Holy crap!!! That's so freakin' weird! When I first saw it, like others, I was like, "Oh, cool. It's got a remote control. That's neat, ok where's the controller." This was EXACTLY what I was thinkin'... Quote:
I like Nintendo's backup plan, too. LOL, allowing Gamecube controller's on the console is genius. N64's controller was the most revolutionary, and Gamecube's is the best controller to date. Glad they decided to accommodate for it.

about games where you have to move not being good... i do not agree, but i will say that every "hands-on impressions" i have read state that you can easily hold it like a regular controller, on your lap, while still pointing/rotating your controller. i read this alot when they reffered to the Metroid Prime demo, where you point, and shoot. no exessive moving needed. grab a remote, set your arms on your armrests and point it at your moniter, now point it at each corner of the screen, you see, no exessive motion needed, just turn your rist a little bit. |

Last time I checked I wasn't buying a video game console with the expectation of it being a virtual reality device. Plus the technology for this type of thing hasn't been responsive enough in the past for you to actually be able to play Zelda as well as with the regular controller. I think this has set my decision not to buy a Revolution.

Like the controller or not, there will still be plenty of games playable with more traditional controllers. So I don't see the reason to worry about it. If it works out nicely, then they got something that will be really unique and fun to play. Last, why make quick judgements? I'd rather wait to see what more reviews say about the control and how it works with the games first.

because the powerglove was something from early nintendo and they have come along way in what they have done and they have alot of great devs. working for them that they didnt have back then and i think this is going to be the best controller of any system out there and btw need i remind people that xbox had that large CUPHOLDER/PAPERWEIGHT controller that was useless when it came out so enough said nintendo always goes for size and ease of use and that they have done and btw the port on the bottom of the remote is where the expansion pieces plug in and the system will use SD cards for memory chips this time around from what i have heard. so yeah im sticking with revolution and am going to buy it and not spend 500 bucks on a paperweight xbox360.

according to what ive heard, evertything works just fine, except for some bugs that were do to the actual demos themselves http://cube.ign.com/articles/651/651275p1.html (if you are reffering to the light gun, it is not the same tech) and for all you people afraid of innovation, nintendo also released that they would also have a cradle, you simply insert your "remote" into a shell that is a conventional controller. its hard to explain. just go to this link http://cube.ign.com/articles/651/651559p1.html |

You've got to hand it to Nintendo for pushing the design envelope and coming up with such a unique looking controller. Personally I like how it's not covered in buttons like some other controllers. It looks simple, elegant, and easy to use. The idea of controlling a game by moving it around will probably take some getting used to, but it's got great potential.

I can't wait to get this. And it has backwards capabilities right? So I can play NES Kung Fu for hours on end? I hope they come out with an Animal Crossing for this because AC=crack for Jessica. It's really sad.

I'm sure they'll come out with an Animal Crosing for the Revolution as well as any platform they have in the future as the first was a really big hit for them. It was one of those unique games that can get some people so interested in it, they'll buy the console or handheld large in part in order to play that game. Which brings me to the Nintendo DS. You know that there is an Animal Crossing game coming out for the DS in a few months that will also take advantage if the DS's Wi-Fi capabilities and allow gamers to play it online with fellow gamers across the world. Ok I'm done with the shameless plus for the Nintendo DS and Animal Crossing.

Yes, I am fully aware of that and plan on not having a life outside of Animal Crossing DS for quite some time. Sigh.

animal crossing REVO is already announced, and i can say with confidence that nintendogs probably is too, all big games are already announced. zelda, mario , supersmash brothers, metroid, donkeykong and final fantasy are some of the big games that are currently in development. This thing will be awsome. (and coasterlove, i always agree with your signatures! "lets do nothing, and we can blame the people whos help we refused later!" |

Ah, that's good news but also no surprise that Nintendo would be bringing over many of their biggest names to the new console. I never worry about their titles although some were a little weaker this generation compared to previous generations. Examples would be the Star Fox games as well as Mario Sunshine along with a couple others. Not to say they were bad games, just not as great as some of the work in those series from earlier work. And thanks for the compliments on my sig. Quote:

As Blazen_Azn pointed out, pictures are out of at least one controller dock. Note that this is a mockup IGN did based on a conversation with Nintendo, so while the concecpt is 100% legit, the actual look of the controller may turn out to be a bit different. Since people don't like to click on links, here's a picture: Last edited by Tim; 09-18-2005 at 11:24 AM. |

That dock is a great idea for playing those games that just wouldn't work with the regular controller, or if you just feel like playing conventionally.

Here's my take on the controller: it's a great idea, but I wouldn't like using it like a regular TV remote. Change the design.

^^^ do note that while you insert the "remote" into the dock, it does not lose it's specical features, so you have the option of holding it any way you want.

Wow this will be different, but revolutionary nevertheless. Right now I can't imagine how in the world I'll be able to play the next Super Smash Bros., but I do know that however I do it will blow my mind.
