2007 Coaster Draft General info, Questions, and Comments thread

I'm going to go ahead and open up this thread for questions and comments about this year's annual Coaster Draft. All questions and comments should be posted here and not in the official draft thread.

The draft starts on May 18 at Noon EDT, which is two weeks from today.

At this time, players may also begin negotiating/proposing trades with other players if they want to move up in the standings. All negotiating should be done here and not on the official draft thread. Also for now, if any trades are agreed upon before the draft starts, feel free to post your trade announcements here as well as the other player(s) confirmation of the trade.

Now before I open this up for questions, let me get a couple of FAQs squared away:

1. How does the coaster draft work?

For now, I'll point out this post from last year's draft. I will update the draft rules when we get underway.


2. How do I play?

Unless you've already signed up, you really can't yet. If you would like to sign up, you can do that here

Last but not least, here is the updated draft rankings. Some of your spots may have changed from the original which was posted on Super Bowl day.

Important Note: Because the draft has not started yet, the first alternate, member DisGardeVersal, will be ranked according to his Super Bowl prediction scores. And that goes for next alternates if you've posted your scores and if the draft has not started yet.

Who do I contact if I might miss a day of the draft and what should be in this note?

You can make arrangements with any other player to select on you behalf, but be advised that whoever offers to pick for you has to make the pick on time, or the draft pick is forfeited, regardless of who was supposed to select.

You can have any other player pick for you, but be sure that you know you can trust that person; I would recommend coming to one of us coordinators -- either Andrew, coasterlove, or myself -- and we will make the pick for you. The best way to contact me personally is to send me a private message on here; Andrew and coasterlove will let you know how they want to be contacted.

About the message, you'll want a list of coasters that you want in the order of your first choice to last choice. Don't just list one or two, because in the event they are both picked, you won't be able to make your pick. I would list several on there. Again, you should list them in order so we know officially what you're going to select.

Well if anyone is interested in getting the first pick, you can PM me your offers...I'm not sure I'm going to need the first pick overall so if you need to move up to get a coaster you want let me know.

As Jimmy may have noted, if you will be away during your slotted pick time, I can make them for you, provided I have enough notice (24 hours). Just PM your possible picks.

But not for this weekend since I'll be away from my computer.

You can send one PM to both Andrew and me; just put both our names at the top separated by a semicolon, and one of us will post it at when the time comes.

coasterlove prefers to be emailed with your picks at coasterlove@tmail.com.

UPDATE (three hours later): Brian F is now the second alternate on the active roster. Since the draft has not yet started, he has now earned the rights to the #10 spot in the draft based on his Super Bowl prediction, and everyone after him will move down a spot except for Worm. He has replaced JamMasterJ, who I am placing at the bottom of the alternates list.

I want to point out something....if anyone is going to send me a list, you might as well send it out to coasterlove and any of the staffers playing in the draft: Andrew, Brian F, Katie, or Wes as well, since that is highly recommended. This way in case I'm not available (either at work, sleep, or downed internet connection), one of the others might be available to pick for you and the greater the chance your pick is covered.

Because I work overnight, I'm usually sleeping during the afternoon or evening and won't be able to pick for you if I am in bed, and maybe Andrew, coasterlove, or Katie might be available during those times. In any case, if you send it to the other two or three as well, now your pick also have a back-ups. And again you only have to send one message, just put our names separated by a semi-colon and all of the recipients will get your list by sending it once.

^ You are correct, you should indeed be on the alternate list.

I'm a helper in running this game, so Coasterlove and Jimmy B would have the final say, but I believe you currently slot in as the fourth alternate between Calidude and JamMasterJ.

I've got a question in regard to:

Since we already have a master draft board, there will be no posting updated draft boards here or anywhere else. Always check the master board thread for updates to the draft board.

What is the master draft board thread? The one where we make our picks?

So will there be a running board like last year saying who picked what? I'm confused.

EDIT: Never mind. Always helps to look at the boards.

But for those of you that still don't get what I said in the quote:

Everyone will continue to post their picks in the official draft thread as we've done every year. The only difference is that we don't need a constant running draft board since we already have the master board which shows who picked what; we will update it daily.

Brian, to clarify, Andrew Polcyn also has the final say along with coasterlove and myself since he's also one of the coordinators, so there are three of us.

Maverick and all other new for 2007 coasters are already available to select since they are scheduled to open this year.

So since the draft has started and before I make my official pick I wanted to give everyone one last chance to trade down to the get the first overall pick. If you feel the need to move down to get a coaster you really want just offer me your 2nd round and 1st round picks and I may even throw in a 4th or 5th round pick if you're lucky. So if you're interested I'll give you till 10 pm EST to make me a offer.
