2008 Coaster Draft -- General Info, Questions, and Comments Thread

The 2008 Coaster Draft begins a week from now on Friday, May 2nd at Noon EDT. I will now open this thread up for questions and comments about this year's draft.

Andrew Polcyn, coasterlove, and I will have a teleconference about our coordinating of the draft soon and we will update you on any changes there may be about the draft as soon as we have them. If you have any suggestions or anything you'd like to add, let us know by replying here and the three of us can go over it and consider your thoughts. You may also send us a private message (PM) if you want to contact Andrew or me directly.

Currently, we do have a complete roster, however there is no one on the official alternates list yet, so if you are interested in being an alternate, post here to confirm to be listed.

Also, if necessary, you can also refer to last year's draft transcript if you're still unfamiliar with the draft to see how the game works.

Last but not least, I will remind everyone on the roster that you may continue to negotiate trades with anyone else on the roster if you want to switch spots. All negotiations should be done either on here or privately and not on the official thread. While announcements and confirmations should be posted on the official thread, for now you may post them on this thread until we have the official thread up next week.

I wanted to wish everyone good luck and just as importantly, have a fun time with it! I really wish I could've participated this year but my schedule this year with my new job (two jobs now) as well as moving tomorrow would've left me little time to have the time to do it in a timely fashion.

I'll help when I can but that probably won't be often unfortunately. So I also wanted to thank Jimmy, Andrew, Wes, Katie, Brian and anyone else I might be missing too that are helping to moderate the Coaster Draft. And last I wanted to thank the returning members for keeping this game going as well as new members trying it out for the first time.

But the problem is Mark, it's not what coasters to choose, but in some people's cases (like mine) what theme to choose for our parks. When I personally run out of ideas, I'll drop. But I look forward to this year's draft.

But a word of warning to those participating: Don't pick the coaster I am going to pick in my next round

Let's see, I made fun of the corporate side of parks 2 years ago. Last year, I poked fun at the enthusiasts, placing any blame I could on ACE. Hey, anyone want to take the Tamar Fellner experience?

This year, I came out with my idea back in January, and let me say it will be the most challenging. The last two years, my ideas came to me mid-draft, so this looks like it has a promising chance.

I don't think that some of the participants have realized we started the draft. They will learn very quickly when they start losing their picks. Maybe to start the draft next year that an email gets sent out to remind the others that aren't as excited as we are.

Yeah, I'm not Mexican. I hardly drink Corona, even if it looks "cool." I won't go there. A better suggestion for our TN Cinco de Mayo like that Tequila would be nice.

I too agree that Eight Belles needs a moment of silence. Every year now I watch the Kentucky Derby.

I had a Blue Moon last year at my friend's suggestion and I enjoyed it. This year I ordered it and was not caring for it. Orange with your beer. Now I don't care for it. It's Coors anyway - not my brew. Man Laws I must obey - Miller.

I think the sticky keeps it from being seen in the "Last 5 Active threads." Vekoma missed his pick. That's two missed in the first round. Twice a picked coaster was picked again. Everyone has to get a grip.

I'm no mod but you have 9 other picks you can make to make it shine and be a good park. Last year, I think my buddy Jerry missed a pick and we had to lay it out there for him. He didn't get the missed pick back so I don't want to be unfair to a board friend. In freak cases I went to my friend's house or called him to check online for me things. I had my cousin log in to Ticketmaster to buy tickets for me before. Make an emergency list for future rounds that Andrew or Jimmy could use if you're out that weekend.

I was watching how long it would take for someone to pick Boulder Dash to see if it would slip to me. I labeled James as my biggest threat; he knew better than to let that slip by him.
