2009 sign-up's for the Coaster Draft

I am going to go ahead and open up sign-ups for the 2009 annual ThrillNetwork Coaster Draft.

Unlike the previous several years, I'm going to revert the roster back to the original 16 spots instead of the usual 20. So the first 16 players from now that sign up will be on the roster -- unless they declare themselves to be an alternate. Also unlike previous years, sign up will be open to everyone right on the spot (regardless if they competed in last year's draft or not).

To sign up, just post here saying you want to be in. If you want to be placed in the alternates list, just say so by declaring yourself as an alternate and you will be placed if spot(s) opens up.

Leo C (CHILLERLC1) is the defending champion from last year and automatically gets a spot, so he's already in. Leo, Brian F, and I are going to be coordinating the draft.

Leo may also choose to remain the official Coaster Draft analyst/commentator if he wants. lol

Once we get a roster set, I'll explain later about the seeding of the players (the draft order).

As I told you yesterday Jimmy, you know I am in. I love some competition! Besides, being the only girl in the draft has it's advantages, sometimes.

I'm glad to be back. It'll be Draft number 2 or 3 and a half for me?

I guess I'll finally try this out this year. My draft will probably suck though.

For now, refer to last year's draft transcript to learn more about the Coaster Draft.

Basically, you are trying to select coasters (round by round) to form your own hypothetical park, then members vote on which of the parks (strictly based on coaster collection) they like the most or what they think is the best. The draft is just like a pro-sports draft (like an NBA Draft if you will).

But I strongly recommend you read through the past drafts (like the link I provided) to get a better idea. The first post in the thread explains the specific rules and procedures, which I would especially suggest reading.

If you're still unsure or have more specific questions, you can ask any of the players who have played before and they might address your questions more specifically.

If you're still interested, you can post again to sign-up.

I'm declaring myself as an alternate. The Coaster Draft is a lot of fun, but I's like to give the chance to play to some who have not played before. In addition, since I'll be hevaily involved in coordinating the draft, I'll declare myself the final alternate.

If you're on the fence about playing, especially if you have not played before, jump in now!

What is this Coaster Draft thing? Can someone explain it to me? I guess I'll try it out. Who knows, maybe I'll have beginner's luck!

Count me in if there's a spot open.

If I calculate correctly, this makes a full roster, with one alternate, and 4 of the 16 are new players. This is excellent to see. Don't let the full roster dissuade you from signing up if you want- we usually have a few alternates get in.

How will we determine the draft order? I don't mind the Superbowl thing, but it should be something coaster related if you ask me.

Just a few other things...

Draft order will be determined by the final score in the Super Bowl. Jimmy will address this once the Super Bowl teams are set.

Like last year, there will be NO EMERGENCY PICKS. If you miss your pick, it's your own fault.

A tip from me; learn your fellow members' patterns and prepare for times/weekends you're out. If Friday night there are 4 people ahead of you and they're quick to pick usually and you know you may be out Saturday or Sunday make a possible emergency list and send them to Draft coordinators. You'll still have your 24 hours to make a pick; you gain or lose some hours depending by time zone. We can put your pick in during your spot. There should be advanced and clarified warning before the official first pick. A highlighted term more straight to the point than the long winded messages I give so there are no tears. There are no tears in Coaster Draft.

I first came into the Draft as an alternate about 2 years ago. The Super Bowl prediction was already the tradition, just about Man Law, as good or as bad as you are with following the NFL. Did I really know the Colts that well a year or two ago? No, but guessing was like using a scratch off lottery ticket. Jimmy loves numbers.

Nice to see you back, DGV.

And yes, there will be NO makeup picks, no emergency picks, no whatever. This has been a problem in the past, and it will not be a problem this year. When the person before you makes their pick, you have 24 hours to make your pick. After that 24 hour period, the person following you starts their 24 hour window. Once the person following you makes their pick, you've lost yours. There are NO acceptable excuses (truthful or not). Any argument will simply be answered with a repeat of the rule. Plan ahead, if you know something is coming up, or think something MIGHT come up, PM or e-mail one of the coordinators, and we will enter your pick for you. Always be sure to give us several choices, in case your first choice is taken before your turn comes up.

New players- that probably sounded harsh, but this has been an issue in the past that has led to much weeping and wailing. We're making it starkly clear from the onset this time.

So, when the person behind me enters their pick. I have 24 hours to put mine in. But if I go camping in the wild (just an example) then I could tell someone my pick.
