I'm not sure what direction you wanted to take this but I'm curious to see what you had in mind. I'd participate but I ran into a problem and I assume it's the same problem a lot of members would have in voting- I haven't been on all the coasters on there. Not only that but in each category, I had only been on one or none of the rides. And only the standup category had I been on two but then you threw in Riddler's Revenge which I hadn't been on.

Either way, I thought I'd try to help and give your thread a bump.

Sheikra is better than Griffon because the water doesn't blatantly splash back on a huge piece of cross track behind it and I enjoyed Busch products at the Hospitality Center that was just over the bridge. BGW didn't have that anymore. Actually they're out of both of the parks as of this month.

I didn't know you had to actually ride everyone of them to vote. I have been on only one of the roller coasters from above and I still know which ones are good and which ones aren't so good.

How can you say that? You can't judge a book by it's cover. Coasters are very very finicky and by saying that you know it's good doesn't cut it!

I have been on a lot of them, and sometimes even I don't know which is better. It's a major debate even to me. Sometimes I can't even decide.

Katie's right- you can't judge a coaster by it's looks or numbers, and you DARN sure can't judge them by what other people say- just pick a thread on this site and open it, if you don't believe me. There's alkways someone professing to be an expert who is typing through their rectum.

And a coaster being good because it looks good? I have only two words for that thought- Mean Streak

But, I can help you slightly with one of your pairings. I've never ridden Riddler's Revenge, but Chang blows Mantis out of the water. My best Mantis ride was not as good as my worst Chang ride. And my worst Mantis ride? let's just say that I was done having children before I took that ride, because I'm certainly done after!

I actually don't judge them buy their looks looks or I would say Son of Beast and Mean Streak are the best roller coasters ever (funny you mention Mean Streak!). No I base my favorites on POV's, review, more reviews, and even more reviews until I actually get to be the reviewer myself (which I do hope to do!)

Like I could tell you about how great Millennium Force is, and how Kingda Ka isn't the #1 coaster in the world just because it is the tallest and fastest in the world!

These reviews are called opinions and everyone has their own opinion. Your opinion is going to be unique to you and no one else, and likewise, those opinions are not yours.

I'm sorry, but they're right on....you don't know the quality of a coaster until you ride them yourself. And POVs don't do justice as you're not feeling the ride effects sitting behind your computer.

A good example for me would be Mind Bender from Six Flags Over Georgia. Before my first ride, I thought not a thrilling coaster (if Shockwave from Six Flags Over Texas offered any clues having ridden that), but after my ride, I thought it was simply amazing....probably one of my top three favorites at SFOG (back in 2003), and have done many rerides. Before the ride, I probably wouldn't have given it much more than a single credit I thought.

Jimmy, I didn't know you went to SFOG. Mind Bender at SFOG has been on the top of my Wanted list for awhile now.

I actually didn't ride Griffon but I did ride Sheikra. I waited in line for Lochness next to a testing Griffon so hence my indirect comparison.

I will say Riddler's Revenge > Chang - not so much> than Mantis. Riddler has the best first half. I have been on all three. Ecuador!

See, my feelings are this. Even with the same manufacturer, all of the coasters are different! If they weren't, we would be a very bored bunch, would we not?

For instance...you can't really compare old and new. Beast (old school) El Toro (new school). They weren't made by the same company and each ride has its own elements to make it unique. If it didn't, I would be very bored.

Even B&M inverts are completely different. I find that Raptor and Montu are much more intense then say Talon. I need to hear a loud roar and be blown away by the elements. I don't like blah inverts. I want G forces and airtime!

Ok, I am done for the night, must retire to bed.
