vote to make these posts count

Do you want the posts in message board games to count in your post count?

Well, here's the problem...

This site isn't a democracy. Since it's privately-owned, the owners of the site have the say as to what happens. The owners decided years ago, after problems in this forum, that posts won't count. That is very likely not going to change.

When I made this thread I was like, what the hell why not make a vote. I knew it would never go through. Whatever the result of the vote was. Just a question, what were the problems?

SPam was the main problem. One word posts and the like. Increasing their post counts.

Your argument was not unlike my argument I had years ago, trying to get moderators/administrator posts -not- to count. A lot of the mods posts back then was little more than spam in my opinion. "This thread is closed" and crap like that, yet it was counting. I didn't care for that. Now I could care less. But seriously, what does post count really have to do with anything. Aren't you supposed to be here to read about coasters and rides, maybe gain a few friends? Sides, with the ability to have your own custom avatars, post counts are rather irrelevant now.

Remember what happened to the funnies and spoofs? Now, I'm not sure if that counted posts but it was gone after about a month or two...I think.

I personally think that they should count. The post count should be just that, a count of how many post you have on TN. Certain posts shouldn't be void just because of the topic they're under. That seems to me like its allowing spam under the message board games. Spam is spam, if it got too bad in the messageboard games why not deleate posts, or ban people as it is a violation of the TOS right?

I understand both sides of the arguement but I don't really care one way or the other. I tend to lean towards the "they should count" side just because its a little sad knowing that my "1250" or so post count is not accurate to how many posts I have on this site.

At least this thread isn't about TOASTERS. The dumbest thread ever was the toasters one, by far. Well anyway I'm glad to see everyone's opinion on this subject.

My feeling (which I'm sure people are waiting on with baited breathe) is that post counts should just go away. Have it so if you're here a year you get a custom avatar and get rid of any issue with post counts. The spam from the under 1000's would drop off and the whole "my counts higher than yours so I'm obviously a better person" type stuff would go away as well.

Seriously, what's the point of having it, other than it may not be a standard option to just turn it off.

If I wasn't a moderator, I wouldn't be allowed to have a custom avatar, and you don't see me complaining (nor have I ever). I thought it was kinda crazy to make it 1000 and 6 months, myself. 6 months isn't a very long time, and if you have 1000 posts after being a member for 6 months, I'd question the validity of your posts. That's just me, though.

Voting worst thread evAr! And at least the toaster thread was entertaining . Don't count these posts, all of the newer members (including you slnewbus) don't remember how much spam was created when these posts counted (but there were some great threads in here too).

To add to my opinion from earlier. If the post count isn't gonna be accurate, then I would rather just go with what Drewbie said, and have no post count. I'd rather have the accurate post count though.

Message board games is the only forum where posts aren't counted right? Just seems like I've been in the 1240s forever.

We have 2 requirements for custom avatars. You must be here for at least 6 months, and be a fairly active member. We don't want excessive amounts of spam that may be generated with a pure post requirement, Also don't want people that make one post in a year to get one either. We've worked with it on several occasions to find a good balance between post count and member duration that will work in most cases.

As for actual post count, most members don't care how many posts they have. It is more of a general outline on whos active and whos not. It's not very important simular to loction and join date.

As for this forum, it was a spam target by the few that wanted to get their post count high when you post count directly effected what avatar you had. The staff have decided unanimously to disable counts in this forum as well as to not reenable them. Even the vote amoung members shows that they don't want this forum to count. At this point, I think it's safe to close this case. (and thread)
