| Boy drowns at Sandusky\'s Kalahari

Doesn't look like the lifeguards were negligent, as was the opinion of some on another website. There was one thing that stood out in the article, the mention of not knowing how to swim. With someone that's older, they know their limits, but with a toddler of 3, you should be extra careful. Quote:
I'm guessing this woman sues within a year. After all, it is the American Way.

Its sad that a little child had to die but it points out one glaring thing. A lot of people go to places and assume everything is safe and just relax and pay no mind to what is important, their childrens safety. A three year old should not be alone in the pool area period.

When i worked there back in 05-06 as a lifeguard, i would see the same thing with parents. They would just let there kid go and not care where they went. On a side note back then too, they also had the prob with not having enough lifeguards(and this was before they made any expansions too to it.) , and when it seemed like the guards and mgt did not care. In this case though the parents are to blame. |

Kalahari was sited a few years ago for not having enough lifeguards.

Still, I would expect a three year old to have a lot more attention from his parents than a lifeguard. Sad, but totally irresponsible.

I have on a few occasions helped young kids in situations where they were in a little too deep and needed help. In one case I had a boy holding him above the water at the Geauga lake wave pool as he coughed up the water he inhaled. After a minuite or 2 I walked back a little and set him down. The adult that was with him looked back and saw me setting him down and said, "oh he's alright". Alot of parents are too busy having fun to watch their kids. I feel for this kids family and I wonder how this happened as when I have been to this hotel the guards have been very intune to what was going on. I do have to say I haven't been there in the past 2 years so things might have changed.
