| Stand-ups Galore!
Hi all. Coaster Individual and myself have decided to have a little competition amongst ourselves. We both realized at the same time that very few stand-up rides have been posted here so we made our own. His is a compact, spaghetti-bowl type ride while mine is...well...that first drop is a doozy. We thought it would be fun if we both post in the same thread and see what kind of reviews each gets. So here is my entry, Atajo, and his will follow shortly. Enjoy!

Here is my stand-up, Uber Alles. As robocoasterdude said its a spaghetti bowl design, with some pre-made supports and plenty of custom supports. I'll get a screen on here tomarrow.

Atajo: This was a pretty good and mostly smooth coaster. It also had a really cool layout. Unfortunately, the inversions were a bit too slow, and the ride ended too slowly. There were also some jerks (very minor). This was still a good coaster. Good Job! Uber Alles: This was nice and had a good compact layout. The pacing was slightly better in the beginning of this one, but it also ended too slowly. This had more jerkyness, and I got hit by a support. But still, nice job. Firstly, to both of you: This is a great idea for competition! Speaking of which, are we ever gonna loose those Tournament of Champion Threads! There really getting to be an eyesore in the Forum. But I digress... Atajo... For a mega-coaster: not bad, but it needs some work. The station can be much shorter, but your entry onto the lift was very nice. The first drop was a doozy, but it felt clunky and un-B&M like. You can have a non-B&M design, but keep it fluid and smooth. The inversions were slow at their peaks; big point: watch your pacing! This ride could've had the same effect in half the length; it felt long and slow towards the end. There was way too much support. I know supports are fun, but the whole point in stand-up is that your supposed to be vulnerable. Try to keep it to one support every twelve to fifteen ties on non-inversional track. Also, try never to put a support at the top of inversions, it looks and feels tacky. Try to avoid using transport wheels on the mid course block brakes, you need to tilt the block so a stopped train could move under it's own force. Also, the banking near the end of the ride needs to be cleaned up and smoothed out. Overall, not too bad! ((( 75/100 C ))) Uber Alles... For a stand-up, absolutely horrid! It was jerky, too long, wretched with banking, and soooo slow through the inversions that I honestly thought I would die. A lot of the notes above apply to you, especially about pacing and supports (I wouls be a decapitated amputee by the final brake run.), BUT (and this is a very big BUT!) for the sheer brilliance in making a spaghetti bowl this complex without using a sissy LIM launch like every other spaghetti bowl out there, I would jury this contest in your favor. I also liked your drop and the modest size of your lift. Overall, work on it, but... (((77/100 C+))) I may be nit picky, but I would choose Uber Alles for the reasons stated above. Thank you gentlemen for showing off your coasters in such a unique fashion and for letting me judge. |
