March Official NoLimits Contest

For the month of March, ThrillNetwork will hold a coaster design contest using the NoLimits software, the winner of which will receive a Six Flags season pass good at all Six Flags parks. Additionally, second and third place winners will receive a NoLimits ThrillNetwork T-shirt. All winners will have their coasters posted and featured on the official NoLimits web site. For those who win that are not living in the United States, you will be receiving a prize package instead of the season pass. You may only win once.

Six Flags season pass prizes for the ThrillNetwork's NoLimits Coaster contest made possible by the generous sponsorship by Six Flags.

March Rules:
-Steel looping coaster type
-Must have only one lift hill
-G limits: -2 to +6 vertical G's; -2 to +2 lateral g's
-2 train minimum
-3 inversion minimum
-Must pass e-stop
-May not use terrain or 3ds objects; cartextures are allowed

Goal for design:
The aim of this month's contest is to create a portible coaster. This means the ride must be compact and sit on a small amount of land so that the ride can travel from carnival to carnival. Supports should be lots of small beams. For a visual aid of what we are looking for, check out Zonga or any other Schwarzkopf coaster. While there is no limit to the amount of land you may use, it will be taken into consideration when judging the rides.

Entering your track
-------------------

1) Log into the site (from the main site at http://www.thrillnetwork.com/ or SpeedZone, but not the forums)
2) Go to SpeedZone at http://www.thrillnetwork.com/speedzone/
3) Select the file you wish to upload and any pictures in the "Upload/Manage Files" tool. Only the track file must be zipped. Also, be sure to include as detailed of a description as possible.
4) When uploading your ride, be sure to check the box that says "Check this box to submit for this month's NoLimits Contest".
5) When the above steps have been completed, click on the "Submit" button. Your file should upload and your track will be submitted for the month's contest.
6) If it fails, check your file sizes, whether or not they are correct extensions, or if you are behind a firewall that may not be properly configured. Those are all common reasons for upload failures.

The limit is one contest entry per month. First place winners become ineligible once they win a prize (2004 winners may participate, however).

Judging Criteria:
- Building Technique such as G-forces, smoothness, blocking, supports, track shaping.
- How fun the ride is
- Original or unique ideas

Rides are due on March 31, by 11:59 PM Eastern Time.

Real Life Examples:
Thriller - http://www.rcdb.com/ig492.htm?picture=3
Mindbender (Edmonton)- http://www.rcdb.com/ig193.htm

We're not aiming for the sprawled out large rides like Shockwave or Revolution, we want the tight portable models. Another ride to check out that's in the game is Olympia Looping.

If you look carefully, you will see a green track just behind the Texas Tornado, which is part of another coaster. This one is called the Viper. As you can see, it has a tunnel with a dragon on it on the first drop. Here is a picture of it. http://www.rcdb.com/ig50.htm?picture=3 The Viper, just like the Texas Tornado (aka Thriller)(aka Zonga), is the steel looping coaster type that matches the contest requirements. The Texas Tornado, the Viper, and Greezed Lightening (not pictured) were all engineered by Anton Schwarzkopf. Go to the website http://schwarzkopf.coaster.net/ to find out more about these styles of coasters.

What do you think a good land area size would be for this style?
Also can we use modern techniques, ie heartlining?

Yah I know. I rode Viper when I was at SFAW awhile back. I can't really remember that much of it, but I remeber going into that tunnel. It was fun.

i hate astroworld with a passion, though i would be willing to give it a second chance. when i went there the park was a dump, none of the vendors had any park maps, the lines were the longest i've ever seen in a park (even longer than saturday sfot lines), serial thriller ended up sucking (even when riding in the front seat) and we had waited in line 3 hours for it, and to top it all off, half of the rides were closed, including texas tornado which made me mad. the only thing i liked was the cyclone. its one of the few wooden coasters that i like. sorry to be off topic, i just felt like ranting.

The Texas Tornado almost never worked the whole time it was in Houston. It had mechanical failures because of the high temperatures in Houston. I haven't heard of it having any problems since it was moved to California. I'm very sure that the climate in Six Flags Marine World is much cooler than that in Astroworld.

If ya'll are looking for "compact and portable", Laser is probably a better example than some of those others.

As for the contest... In order to make curved 'kopf lift that doesn't "wobble" in NoLimits, you need to use a lot of track nodes/segments. This causes NL to leave out some sets of friction wheels because it thinks a segment is too short for them.

Will you be docking points if the sim fails to draw some friction wheels?

I would think not.. they're quite a bit more versatile as far as banking transitions are concerned.

ok, this is actually a question and not a random comment (hence the d.p.):

can our entry be a recreation?
