April Official No Limits Contest

For the month of April, ThrillNetwork will hold a coaster design contest using the NoLimits software, the winner of which will receive a Six Flags season pass good at all Six Flags parks. Additionally, second and third place winners will receive a NoLimits ThrillNetwork T-shirt. All winners will have their coasters posted and featured on the official NoLimits web site. For those who win that are not living in the United States, you will be receiving a prize package instead of the season pass. You may only win once.

Six Flags season pass prizes for the ThrillNetwork's NoLimits Coaster contest made possible by the generous sponsorship by Six Flags.

Goal For Design
To travel through as many gates as possible. There are 30 gates total. The entry that passes through the most gates at the end will be the winner. Ties will be broken by looking at the over quality of the two tracks

Rules
*You MUST use this template for the April No Limits Contest
*No moving the location of gates or changing the height of gates.
*No terrain allowed
*You cannot use the gates as supports or attach supports to them, they must remain totally separate.
*G limits: -2 to +5 vertical G's; -1.5 to +1.5 lateral g's
*You can only have 1 lift hill or 1 launch. You may use transport wheels to get to the launch or lift, but if they appear to be a second launch or lift, your track will be disqualified. This allows for inclined launches like on The Incredible Hulk.
*3Ds can be included, but will be deleted before judging and not scored.
*Your track length must be under 10,000ft (3048m)
*Track must pass tunnel test
*No curving lift hills or launches
*Have fun!

Be sure to check out this thread, because we have some new rules in place for future No Limits Contests.

Entering your track
1) Log into the site (from the main site at http://www.thrillnetwork.com/ or SpeedZone, but not the forums)
2) Go to SpeedZone at http://www.thrillnetwork.com/speedzone/
3) Select the file you wish to upload and any pictures in the "Upload/Manage Files" tool. Only the track file must be zipped. Also, be sure to include as detailed of a description as possible.
4) When uploading your ride, be sure to check the box that says "Check this box to submit for this month's NoLimits Contest".
5) When the above steps have been completed, click on the "Submit" button. Your file should upload and your track will be submitted for the month's contest.
6) If it fails, check your file sizes, whether or not they are correct extensions, or if you are behind a firewall that may not be properly configured. Those are all common reasons for upload failures.

The limit is one contest entry per month. First place winners become ineligible once they win a prize (2004 winners may participate, however).

Feel free to post any questions, and remember to download the template! You MUST have the template for this contest.

RULE ADDITION!
Passing through an individual gate more than once will not help your score.

LOL That would be a funny contest. I know we have had something like that before, with rings.

So, if I understand right, a worthless ride which goes through 24 gates wins over a magnificant ride that goes through 23 gates. Hm. Oh well, that's a nice touch.

Yes unfortunately, but the whole challenge in this is getting through the gates.

It can be any track style? Can the track collide with the gates or are the gates part of the actual ride?

We never said you had to use a particular track style. Track can't collide with the gates, it has to go through the gates.

i think its cool except for the fact that you can win soley by passing through more gaits than anyone else even if its not a good ride. the way you have it right now, someone could make the whole thing one lift that doesn't actually go up, but instead snakes through every gate at 5 mph. i don't see anything in the rules that prevents that.
i would also like to point out that there was nothing in last month's rules about having to pass the tunnel test. i think i might have had some slight same-block tunnel collisions, but nothing dangerous.

We don't allow curving lifts or launches.

ok then, with no curved lifts and g-force limits in place, i would say this is a foolproof contest where you have to churn out something decent to win. should be interesting.

But I'm certainly doing this contest.

Ok, that's just crazy. It's going to be interesting to see what the top designers can come out with. Aka: above me.

---

It's going to be hard for the rings that are close togather.

When the coaster is finished, it's going to be huge (spread out).

---

Disney's Ultimate Ride has "scenario's" that you can play that you have to go through the rings with the coaster on the right side! I used to play that. Maybe I'll give this one a try.

Do we get extra points if something passes through a gate more than once?

track has to go through the gates and it has to tunnel test, but does it have to tunnel test with the gates (ei - can there be a gate sticking through the tunnel?)
