May Official No Limits Contest

YOU MUST DOWNLOAD THE TEMPLATE FOR THIS CONTEST!

For the month of May, ThrillNetwork will hold a coaster design contest using the NoLimits software, the winner of which will receive a Six Flags season pass good at all Six Flags parks. Additionally, second and third place winners will receive a NoLimits ThrillNetwork T-shirt. All winners will have their coasters posted and featured on the official NoLimits web site. For those who win that are not living in the United States, you will be receiving a prize package instead of the season pass. You may only win once.

Six Flags season pass prizes for the ThrillNetwork's NoLimits Coaster contest made possible by the generous sponsorship by Six Flags.

Goal for design:
This month the goal is to build a GCI wooden coaster (wooden coaster (Tailored 2 seat) track style in NoLimits). The ride should be full of twists and turns, not an out and back style. For real life examples, look at Lightning Racer or Roar.

Rules:
*Must use at least 2 trains
*Must use at least one lift hill (2 is the max)
*No more than 1 station
* +4.5 to -2 Vertical G’s
* -2 to + 2 Lateral G’s
*One station only
*Must pass e-stop
*Track must be at least 3,200ft
*You may not build track above the purple line in the template
*You may not edit the template
*No 3DS
*Trees (in game trees) CAN be added
*All supports and track cannot touch the boulders in the template
*You may move the start point
*You may change the cars per train and amount of trains

Entering your track:
1) Log into the site (from the main site at http://www.thrillnetwork.com/ or SpeedZone, but not the forums)
2) Go to SpeedZone at http://www.thrillnetwork.com/speedzone/
3) Select the file you wish to upload and any pictures in the "Upload/Manage Files" tool. Only the track file must be zipped. Also, be sure to include as detailed of a description as possible.
4) When uploading your ride, be sure to check the box that says "Check this box to submit for this month's NoLimits Contest".
5) When the above steps have been completed, click on the "Submit" button. Your file should upload and your track will be submitted for the month's contest.
6) If it fails, check your file sizes, whether or not they are correct extensions, or if you are behind a firewall that may not be properly configured. Those are all common reasons for upload failures.

The limit is one contest entry per month. First place winners become ineligible once they win a prize (2004 winners may participate, however).

Tips and Some Answers
Sometimes if the track is too close to the end of the map and autosupports are placed, the game will crash because it tries to place supports off of the map. Don't get too close!

Remember to modify the wooden supports in areas that need it.

As long as the track is not above the purple line, all is fine, catwalks, ralings, and supports are allowed to extend above it.

Remember you cannot modify, move, flip, retexture, or do anything to the 3DS objects or terrain.

This require the No Limits Track Packager from www.gravimetricstudios.com to unpackage correctly.

really bad taste including an OC texture and not, at the very least, renaming it to avoid conflicts with other rides which made the same mistake. :\

anyhoo... "Must use 2 trains"... 2 trains? or at least 2 trains?

Matt, you realize that most GCII twisters have two stations (a la Gwazi). Could we use two stations to make it more realistic, or do you want us to just stick with one station?

Yes we know that. We didn't think anyone would care because usually realism isn't that much of a concern here. To make things simple it's 1 station limit. Other people run and work on this contest besides me, and I'm not even the main person in charge.

This looks like it will be a tough one, I'll give it a try but I probably wont make a great coaster. The bolders are going to make it hard. (back to my april coaster)

Well, I am done most of the trackwork and need to continue smoothing the ride and such, but I decided to try out the supports to see how they would look. A few problems occured:

1. Usually, when making a wood coaster, you try to not put wides supports on pieces of track under other pieces of track, and I go around every segment to customize it as well as I cane. A problem that showed up was still in some places, such as where three tracks cross over one another, the supprts underneath are still all messy looking and crosed with each other, despite the fact that there are no wide supports involved. If something like this occurs at one or two parts of my coaster, will points be taken off?

2 (more serious) When wooden supports are generated on a terrain, the wide supports come out bad:

Meowcoaster pointed out something good there, the supports that get generated for woodies mess up with the terrain, if there is any. Would points be taken off for supports that go below the terrain or footers that are all out of wack because of the terrain?

We're working out what to do about this, so just be patient for a bit.

We're going to ignore random footers like that, they won't affect you score.

I can help you here. I know a few GCI Dualers use dual stations, but not some. Like Roar, Wildcat etc. I can't really name a lot, and I know the dual stations are apparent, but that really isn't the basis behind the contest. We are asking you to use one station to keep things simple by using one station. You can definetley make a solid coaster with one station (Thats my impression)

Any other questions you can ask me. If you have trouble with the track packager, contact me and I can possibly work something out.
