May Official NL Results

The results are in for May!

Head on over to Speedzone and check to see if you placed in the Winner's Circle. The entries this month were fantastic! The contest was challenging in that contestants had to build a wooden terrain coaster. Head on over to Speedzone to see if you won!

If you won a prize...
Use the "Contact Us" feature and title it "NL Contest - May ___ Place Winner"
In the e-mail, include your name, mailing address, contact e-mail (which must match what is on record or your prize will be invalidated) and phone number. Include your T-shirt size if you're at an overseas location or if you got 2nd or 3rd place. The subject needs to be that or else it stands the chance of getting lost. In addition, we will not re-ask for this information, so make sure it is correct the first time around.

*You have 30 days starting on June 5th, 2005 to claim your prize. Prizes will be sent either when all 3 winners claim their prizes or 30 days, whichever comes first.

I really disagree with the results. Not being a bad sport, but from an unbiased standpoint I thought Ferocia was much better than the others, and included reasons in my rate of Hillside Havoc. With that said, I know it's not meowcoaster1's fault at all. I congratulate him in entering a good track and winning.

^That's the edited and censored version of what I should have said^

Woooo Hooo, go Meow. He is going to be so happy. I knew his coaster was going to win. DC, your coaster just moved back and fourth a lot. To me it was bumpy. I just didn't like it. Meow's coaster was great. I knew it was going to win after I rode all the coasters. His just had a better feel and touch. Atleast you didn't get last.

^Thank you. I'm so glad I won!! Yay!

dcs221, You did have a coaster that was very good, and it was probably a tough decision. I think the kicker was that mine was truly on a terrain. While the other two coasters were in an area where the terrain wasn't very varying, mine was on the steep side of a mountain, which I thought was what the judges wanted by building this type of terrain.

DC's coaster wasn't really bumpy, GCI likes to make those "bumps" because they're fun in real life.

sfft_2108, while I understand your opinion, I'd like to illustrate the references from which I derived my design features for Ferocia. http://www.themeparkreview.com/videos/video.htm (6th vid on right) Please notice the numerous quick changes in direction throughout the entire layout (also noted under the rules for the contest). This ride exemplifies GCII's style of creating unpredictable layouts with unusual turns and shaping, and especially direction changes. Also notice the heartlining present on the ride (especially notable on the bottom of the first and second drop).

Also, meowcoaster1 and judges, note that the contest asked for a GCII style ride, and nowhere in the rules did it mention a preference for a terrain coaster. GCII has not created any terrain coasters, (while thunderhead is close to being one, it is not any more of a terrain coaster than Ferocia) therefore I emulated GCII's style while including my own original layout.

Yah, It seems like you are still pretty fired up about this. You just have to face it. You got second. There is nothing you can do to change the fact. BTW Regan there was only 3 entries. lol.

Yeah Ragan you're right and thanks for the comment but I never strive to "not be last." I'm also not trying to change the fact that I got second. I'm sure you've experienced when you work very hard to make something stand-out from the crowd, and you're confident in your work, yet you lose to someone whose effort or result was not as good as yours in your opinion. I've won first place in three Statewide contests for art, and placed second in a writing contest, earning over 3000 or 4000 dollars in awards, and I know what it takes and what it's like to win. I sincerely feel cheated when I produce a product that complies with the criteria and stands out, yet lose.

Like I said before, I'm not trying to take anything away from meowcoaster1 or his ride. I feel I need to voice my opinion, thus I'm doing so. I'm not trying to offend anyone; this is merely a peaceful discussion of the results of the contest.

Also, like I said, the rules were changed from before the contest to after. RiscIt's point also shows that time wasn't taken to consider what entries were shooting for instead of just putting in an opinion on what they like better and disregarding criteria.

Well none of that means my coaster wasn't good. I tried very hard to build mine as well, and it was much harder to build mine on a hill then it was to build on relatively level area of land. I had to overcome many obstacles with the ride, such as one piece of track over a rock which I had to make a bridge over, the steep hill for the supports to be built on was also very difficult.

I'm not saying I worked harder than you, but nothing says you worked harder than me either.

This is the first time anyone has ever complained about the results to a contest. Last August, I felt like I shouldn't have gotten second, but I didn't start telling everyone that mine should have won. I just let it go.

By the way, dcs221, you were saying that you think you worked harder than me. It's not fair. Just because you think your track stood out doesn't mean my track didn't. What you are saying is very arrogant, in trying just to prove that you are so much better, and only you know the effort involved in winning. Just try again, ok? I've eneterd many contest, like many others, and they may have worked hard too, and they must've felt bummed out when they lost. Stop considering yourself the best. I liekd your track, and thought it wasn't any less good thanb mine, but that doesn't mean your was better either.

This is the last post I make about this because it's really not worth dealing with.

While I don't see a whole lot of point in arguing about it, I can defineitly see where DCs221 is coming from.

(Meowcoaster.. if yer easily offended, stop reading. Otherwise, keep an open mind, don't take this personally, and get over it. I do not sugar-coat my statements).

There was CLEARLY a difference in build quality and general creativity/excitment between the rides. It doesn't take a genious to see that a LOT more time and a greater level of skill was put in to/applied to DCs221's ride (with the exception of that turn in to the station.. I have no idea wtf DCs221 was thinking about with that).

In any case, were I in DCs221's shoes, I would be genuinly insulted by these contest results. It seems to me that those who are doing the judging (or statistically speaking, atleast half of them) are seriously lacking in the experience department, and do not appear to understand what good NoLimits building requires.

I fear the integrity of this monthly "contest" is going downhill. Quickly.

-

As far as who worked "harder"... it doesn't matter. I could work my arse off for the whole month, and someone else could spend 5 minutes. If I produce a medicore ride and they put forth something that's actually well built, I do not deserve to win - they do.

> This is the first time anyone has ever complained about the results to a contest.

Then here's another: I should not have won the March contest. 2nd place at best, but not first (though if someone wants to give me a free season pass, I'll happily keep my mouth shut and take it, as I did).

Well, he may have more skill, but I was more creative. Same thing happened in August. The winner didn't make his own supports, they were almost all prefabbed, I was more skilled with my track, but he still won. Just accept it and don't make me feel bad about it.
