September 2005 Unofficial NL Contest

This month's contest is about making a coaster for a small park.

In a small amusement park somewhere far, far away, an area is reserved for the construction of a moderate sized custom layout roller coaster. You are challenged to make one for the park, that follows the requirements below:
  • Track must be steel, you can choose any track type
  • Vertical G's between -1.5 and +5
  • Lateral G's between -2 and 2
  • Exactly one station
  • Exactly one lift, no launch
  • Height must stay below 100 ft = 30,48 m
  • Length must stay below 3.500 ft = 1066,80 m
  • Minimum 2 trains
  • Minimum total capacity 32 riders, there is no requirement to the capacity in riders per hour.
  • Must pass E-stop
  • No terrain is allowed
  • Trees are allowed, but will not be judged
  • 3ds are allowed, but will not be judged and the ride should work without them
The park will judge the ride on
  • Building Technique such as G-forces, smoothness, blocking, supports, track shaping.
  • How fun the ride is
  • Original or unique ideas
This is an unofficial contest, there is no prize.
The deadline is September 30, 11:59 Eastern Time (US). Let your creativity flow and make something of it. In the first week of October, we hope to get decided which of the coasters the park will choose, and which are second and third.

Use this thread for questions.

sounds like fun. two questions though.

1. does the capacity have to be the total nember of people on at one time, or just the amount tha could be held at one time?

2. Can other friction wheels be used on brakes and such, as long as it doesnt give a launching expirience?

I am not sure what the difference is between the two options you give, but by capacity, i mean te nr. or trains x the nr. of cars per train x the nr. of seats per car. So, for example, two five car trains on a looping coaster willl do, because 2 x 5 x 4 is more then 32. Two four car trains are allowed too, 2 x 4 x 4 is exactly 32.

Yes, if you want/need friction wheels, you can use them, as long as you don't use them for launching.

Oh, and the coaster must pass E-stop. I added that to the first post.

TDMAMBA, the given height is the maximum height in the editor, that is the maximum y value of the top part of the track. You may not go above there.

But thank yóú all, because since I am a beginner in this sutff, I sometimes forget things, so I will add rules as important questions are asked. I have added a terrain and 3ds rule.

Sounds like a pretty challenging contest. Maybe I'll give it a try.

What if terrain is used where the Y value is 113 feet tall. But I have the terrain level set at 15 feet above normal making the lift only 93 feet tall above ground?

I have added a rule saying no terrain is allowed.

And in the picture you can see how height is measured (height is the y value).

No terrain? Well crap!

I usually use a little terrain where the station is on a hill or something. I guess i'll use the uber-boring plain flat map :P

Oh geez I just nearly finished the track, then I looked at the rules: "Track must be steel, you can choose any track type" I was building a woodie! Lol, I'll have to do something else.

You say that no terrain is allowed but I just wanted to ask if trees are allowed and just not terraforming or nothing at all. Thanks.
