November 2005 Unofficial NL Contest

This month's contest is about making a multiple-inversion coaster. Some unknown amusement park is looking for a multi-inversion roller coaster to improve its guest count. You are challenged to make one for the park.
  • Track must be steel, you can choose any track type
  • Vertical G's between -1.5 and +5
  • Lateral G's between -1.5 and 1.5
  • Exactly one station
  • Either exactly one lift, or exactly one launch
  • There are no height and length restrictions
  • Minimum 6 inversions
  • Minimum 2 trains
  • Must pass E-stop
  • Terrain is not allowed
  • Trees are allowed, but will not be judged
  • 3ds are allowed, but will not be judged and the ride should work without them (i.e. not depend on 3ds for supporting)
The park will judge the ride on
  • Building Technique such as G-forces, smoothness, blocking, supports, track shaping.
  • How fun the ride is
  • Original or unique ideas
This is an unofficial contest, there is no prize.
The deadline is November 30, 11:59 Eastern Time (US). Let your creativity flow and make something of it. In the first week of December, we hope to get decided which of the coasters the park will choose, and which are second and third.

Use this thread for questions.

If using a launch, is there a maximum speed?

Can you repeat an inversion like have two barrel rolls in a row?

You can use any launch speed, as long as you keep the G's within the limits.

Those six inversions don't have to be all different. You can make a coaster with six loops if you want, however that won't be too original.

Does it need mid course brakes?

The contest doesn't require mid course brakes. If you want, you are of course allowed to use them. But you don't have to.

^Looks pretty good. The drop is kinda unrealistic and there is some plain, straight track after the vertical loop. Otherwise, looks like a decent coaster.

1. everyone who has NoLimits full version, can join.

2. You pload to SpeedZone like every toher coaster, but you have to check the box "Enter this coaster for this month's NL contest", which is usually un-checked.

That roll looks really pumpy and rough. Your transitions into the helixes are way too small and don't look properly heartlined. The corkscrew looks a bit off too, and the straightaway before/after the loop is way too big.

I have made a coaster and it actually fits this contest. I did not see this contest before so that was lucky.

Sorry for the double post. I finished a coaster that fits the criteria. http://www.thrillnetwork.com/speedzo....php?file=1707# There it is.

So, I use the terraformer everytime I build a track, and accidentally created a "rolling" terrain for under this coaster. The terrain doesn't affect any of the ride, but may affect a couple supports. Will this cause a deduction in points during judging, or should I go back in and return the ground level to 0?

Other than that, I'm pleased with everything except my last corkscrew which seems to have some perpetual 'bumps' even though I used my corkscrew formula in the elementary. Anyone have a suggestion as to how I could eliminate some of those?

Yikes! I hate to double post but I had to re-upload my coaster. Seems I had a support issue that I did not notice until I tested (downloaded from TN) the file. (note: using one computer to design and the other to upload can cause confusion between files )... I hope this does not affect the judging.

Sorry. The correct file is uploaded to the link in the above post.

I will probably jsut remove the terrain. But if I were you, I would be sure that your supports are not getting stupid (unconnected tubes etc.) when you remove the terrain.

Yeah, I got it now. The "stupid" supports issue was caused by having 2 files named the same thing when I tranferred them from my laptop to this computer to upload them. All should be well now. Thanks.

A link to NLDC: http://nldc.interfix.net/p1261

im not done supporting the first drop/turnaround at top, but otherwise i've done most of it...

The contest ends in three days. If you want to send in a track, keep this deadline in mind and don't forget to upload your possibly winning entry!

The last contest I entered was back in the spring. And after I finished this coaster I found out about some tools like the AHG and the Smoother and the Auto-Flanger which I had only heard about before. I can't believe the difference those little tools can make when trying to fix transitions between everything I made in the Elementary. I've been meaning to tell Buster he's an A-hole for making me look bad.
