Myrtle Beach Haunts and Laughs

I found it incredibly hard to find information on Myrtle Beach's Fun Houses and Haunted Houses. Has anyone been there and can list them with descriptions of each? I know about Haunted Hotel(which looks to be one of the greatest dark rides ever) and Mayhem Manor, but know know any real details about them. Can someone help me out here?

Haunted Hotel is basically a car that rides on a pretzel-style tack, don't rememeber too many details, except that its dark and wasn't that scary.

Let's face it. Most of the old school Pretzel style ride through dark rides are not going to be that frightening. It's a different kind of thrill. Some of them have a "boo" scare or two, but most often they are not frightening.

Y'know what? I'm gonna have to post something else. I got distracted by work (damn work). For more information on operating dark rides in the US, visit www.laffinthedark.com. It's a great site which may have some specific articles about some of those dark rides or will definitely have the operating ones in that area listed. Hope that's helpful.

Yeah, I saw that article on the Haunted Hotel and it looks great. I love classic dark rides 2nd to coasters, so Myrtle Beach looks like a nice place for both.

rocketman23, I hear ya. I'm a huge fan of the classic dark rides. If you get an opportunity to go to Ocean City Maryland, they've got some real beauties. There is a Haunted House on the boardwalk with a Bill Tracey designed facade. The ride is really long and really good. Honestly one of the finest of the classic types I've seen. Great collection of really old and modern stunts throughout. In addition, they've got a Pirate's Cove, which is slamming along with another walk though fun house that I wasn't allowed on because I was wearing sandals. And one of the hidden treasures is a classic glass house/mirror maze. I hadn't been in one of those for years and it was sooo cool to be able to experience all of these in one small area.

Pirate's Cove is at Trimper's rides right? How many total haunted houses/fun houses are there in Ocean City?

Near as I remember there are six. Haunted House, Pirate's Cove, Alladin's Lamp, and the Mirror Maze are all located at Trimper's Rides. That's quite a collection and they maintain them well. There is a fifth funhouse attraction at a different location whose name escapes me. (It was closed when I went). There is also a dark ride on a pier close to Trimper's. I'm not sure of the name of the pier. The ride itself looked very new, I wouldn't guess that it was more than a year or two old, but it didn't really look like much and the entire pier seemed a little shady; kinda unsafe. Maybe I'm just getting old and paranoid. In any case, Ocean City has a really interesting mix of rides. And if you're a real dark ride junkie, a half hour away is Rehoboth Beach and there is a suspended track dark ride on their amusement pier that is just slamming. It's a hike from Ocean City, but for a real enthusiast, it's worth it.

Question

Someone told me that the Haunted Inn (what it was named before it became the "Haunted Hotel") in Myrtle Beach used to play "The Monster Mash" during the ride. Anyone know if that's true? I really don't remember.

Probably doesn't any more, now that they've re-themed it and even enclosed the little "balcony" it used to have.
