Question Top Spin and other flat rides QUESTION

How sick does a Top Spin make you? I'm asking as a person who can handle roller coaster after roller coaster. I can even keep riding coasters after Deja Valley (see my trip report for more info on that). But flat rides. Oh no. I just try and avoid those suckers like the plague. They make me pretty sick. Not pukey sick, but headache and feeling bad sick. Oh, I want to know all this because next weekend I'm going to the University of Arizona's Spring Fling, the "largest student-run carnival in the nation" and I think they have a top spin. My girlfriend wants to take me on some flat rides and I don't want to let her down (crack of a whip). Here's where I stand (flat-footed): I can't really ride the things that spin horizontally like Tea Cups. I might be able to handle a Top Spin since I can take flipping head over heels, but when the laterals hit me, I start feeling bad. So, you think I'll be able to handle it? How sick does it make you?

EDIT: D'oh! I said "pregunta" instead of "question!" You know you're taking too much Spanish when you start to think in Spanish!

I can no longer ride Witches Wheel (Enterprise) because I feel "just not right" after riding it. Like you...not really throw up sick, but just don't feel good. Calypso (tea cups), also gives me that same feeling.

On the other hand, I can ride coasters for hours, and Chaos and Matterhorn with no problem. Chaos spins like Witches Wheel, but with the cars spining independently as well, it seems to counteract the effect.

I might suggest taking some dramamine (motion sickness pills). They may ease some of your symptoms and last several hours.

I know how you feel, it happened to me once on Chaos. So then I went on it again and from now on I have never gotten sick or felt sick on a ride. I know it doesn't make much sense, and it probably never will, so why am I even posting?

Top Spins do not make me sick at all. It is kinda like a less intense Zipper. But then again I got an iron stomach... only one ride has ever gotten me a little bit sick, the accursed SPIDER!

your just like me! i can ride coasters all day long without getting sick, but when it comes to flat rides, its a differant story. i CAN NOT ride tea cups or tilt-a-hurls. however topspins arent too bad. they dont constantly spin like tilt-a-whirls or teacups. chaos is in the middle, i can ride it one or two times a day but no more than that.

Because this thread pertains to a flay ride, I'm moving it to the Flat Rides forum.

I too am the same way. I can't even go on swings. According to my friends who have ridden Twister, the top spin at SFGADV, its not that bad and if you watch it its not really constant flipping. Dramimine is great; I don't leave for a park without it. If you use it use the 24hr formula because it won't make you drowsy and doesn't wear off.

Me too! I avoid most flat rides, except swings. Years ago, when my mom took me to a local fair, the ride op kept us on the tilt a whirl for what seemed like ten minutes. Everyone was yelling that they wanted off, but the op just blew us all off and looked at us like ha ha ha. I thought I would pass out, I was so dizzy! Well, that pretty much finished me off on flat rides. This year, though, I think I will try some more of them and see what happens.

I can't stand top spins they just give me a headache and make me feel ill. Top scans give a headache as well but they are at least fun i could go round on one all day!

PKI's new Tomb Raider which I rode yesterday is probably one of the most intense rides in the park. Tomb Raider is in fact a Giant Top Spin. The ride is amazing in how they have it set up, and now it's my favorite ride ever, even over a coaster. The first drop is spectacular, and just how spectacular you ask? Well I was in the first two seats (well I didnt take up two seats I had a friend along) and when the first drop started it is so unexpected all you could hear was cussing, every person on the ride cussed during the whole first drop. It is that amazing.

i never get sick on rides or coasters and i like topspins alot ..they can hurt when the OTSR and lapbars come down.....but are fun rides that just flip you over...and some thimeshold you upside down...but its not a ride you would get sick on ...if you can ride a coaster like MT or a BTR you should be fine

Yeah I don't have that topspin discomfort problem But I never seem to get sick on flat rides. The only ride I felt slightly dizzy on was Houdini's Great Escape, which is tame as anything, go figure. I could ride Chaos 4 times in a row and not get sick, but I get a lil dizzy on a kiddie ride. Only me...

The only three flat rides that make me feel ill are The Spider, Tilt a whirl and The Teacups! I have never gotten sick on a coaster!

Depending on the program that the topspin is running, it can range from nausea to pure euphoria. To me they aren't too bad, I just wouldn't recommend riding them too many time consectutively. On Thunderhawk @ WOF, you are more afraid of getting wet than getting sick. This ride takes the "wetness" factor of TopSpins to a new level. Have you guys seen pictures of it? They have a lake under it, not just the fountain like most. It is almost IMPOSSIBLE to get off not soaked. Fun Times, and I'm sure it will be a huge hit when it gets really warm this summer.

Dramamine can help till e certain limit

I am suffering from motion sickness and so I use dramamine and Travamin alot in parks. In coaster is helps but in some flat rides nothing helps me. Doo you know the Breakdance ride ? this is something liek spide but the seat are roataing too and very fast . This is a nightmare and this is the only time I puke inside the ride. Luckly I sat alone ... .
There are no 2 same rides on Top Spins because the op control the ride and so he can do whatever he wants. The first time I ride the Top Spin was ok . I felt abit sick for a minute but thats all. On my second time on Top Spin the ride flipped alot and I was so so sick that I dont want to be in this ride ever again .
I guess you should take aloot at this ride and see how bad is it in your local park.

Hmm, all of the TopSpins I have ridden are all on a set program and the only thing the op can do is to push start and E-stop. He/she has no control over what the actually ride itself does. This however may not be the case on carnival TopSpins (which I would avoid simply because a carny is running it).
