Arrow Six Flags America Gets Hurricane Harbor

SIX FLAGS AMERICA GETS HURRICAINE HARBOR FOR 2005. Official News was brought at the strike of mid night on feb 24th.

We will get the tornado, a new trill water ride "bahama blast" featuring 4 person rafts, and buccanear beach with all new water attractions featuring an interactive pirate ship. Also, the park will feature more resturants, more shops, and major park improvements, and good news is that Hurricaine Harbor is included in SFA's General Admisson, for more info click here www.sixflags.com/parks/america/ParkPress/article022405.html

2005, will surly be one of Six Flags America's Highlighted years, Things only seem to get better after the sale of SFWOA in Ohio.

Well congratulations my Maryland/D.C./Virginia fellow enthusiasts. Next time I visit SFA I'll finally check out the water section.

Now if only we can get a coaster or at least an exciting flat in 06/07....most likely 07 because we've only been getting water related attractions as the last two major additions while some parks have gotten more than one coaster since the 02 season.

Most of the resturaunts & shops in HH will probably be just rethemed & upgraded versions of existing structures, the only new things going in are Bahama blast & Tornado as well as a retheme of the wave pool from Monsoon lagoon to Hurricane bay....al of the other slides will either be renamed/repainted or more than likely carry the same names they've always had.

ok. Why do you always under-compliment things. Were getting alot, as a matter of fact its so big, its a re-name, were GETTING HURRICAINE HARBOR, and here you are bickering about how we still need a roller coaster. We have Eight Roller Coasters, Hurricaine Harbor, And Lots Of Potential, You should Be Satisfied well beyond your means.

Lol, I'm almost happier we're getting the Hurricane Harbor retheme than anything else. What do we need next? Not a coaster... we need a dark ride. We have none. After that? Maybe a nice set of flats. Then? A family coaster like a mine train or a mouse (preferably a spinning coaster like SFNE is getting this year). We don't need a big massive standup, 200' tall, 10 inversion coaster every year. In fact I think we almost have too many already. Where would they put the next one? Probably on a path between Batwing and Mind Eraser and then what do you have? 4 coasters in a row along the same path with NO flat rides between them. As it is, just look at the path between Jokers Jinx and Batwing: 3 coasters, two flat rides, one water ride, NO games, NO bathrooms, 1 shop, no places to sit down indoors and eat. Seems a little coaster heavy to me. Personally, I'd rather see them develope what they already have. Now, if they do what SFGAdv did a few years ago with Medusa and not only add the new coaster, but add a LOT of flats and such along with it, sure, but I'm just saying that another big coaster is not necessairily what we need right now.

Boo hoo Batwing. You only got 6 coasters in 4 years.

This is a great addition to SFA. I too will now spend an entire day at SFA, instead of splitting it with PKD. By spending more time in a new section, rather then just another half hour on a new way to bend steel, I will spend more money on a meal. Smart move 6F.

VekomaFan and Andrew W, you are right on the money.

No they won't......you must be wearing your street clothes when in the theme park area, although it doesn't seem to stop most people from doing so anyway.

Thunderdan:yes this will be a much needed & great addition to SFA for the upcoming season however not everybody(myself included) really care for waterparks & water related attractions,I'm more into flats & especially coasters but I do occasionaly patronize a few of the water rides in the theme park from time to time during the hot summer months.

We havn't gotten a coaster since 01(all we got was one water ride in the theme park) while your park SFGRADV has gotten now 2 coasters within that same time period, you're accustomed to getting them & I'm sure that if the shoe were on the other foot you'd probably feel the same way.

You can have our Superman:UF! It doesn't matter too much which park gets which rides, as I get into both parks with the same card. It depends on what you like in a park, as I would take Roar and Wildone over the condition of Rolling Thunder. Not one but two excellent wooden coasters makes a big difference when you like wood. I'll also take Batwing over Superman:UF, Superman:ROS over Nitro, and Joker's Jinx over Chiller... Some say that Superman:ROS & Nitro and Jokers Jinx & Chiller are equal with one another. I give the SFA counterparts an edge.

A refurbishment to a waterpark that I have never been to makes a big difference too, especially since it is free with admission. Flats are a favorite too. You have to remember that SFGAdv only has Rodeo Stampede, Chaos, and Houdini to speak of.

^Well for some of us who can't get out to both parks because of the distance it matters a great deal. You're able to go to both parks,I however am not(due to the distance) it's as simple as that.

Now instead of turning this into an arguement over why SF conducts business the way they do(we've already gone through this before)why not just make some positive comments about the park instead? if I,or anyone else feel the need to post a complaint about the way our local SF park is run however than so be it.

Opening day is in six weeks .....anyone besides me plan on going?

You've only got 3 decent flats at SFGRADV? well perhaps if SF would stop giving them coasters every time a new addition is made then perhaps you'll get some new ones.....SFA doesn't have all that much in the way of exciting flats either unless you consider Falling star,Alpine bobs,High seas & Flying carousel to be real thrillers.

Now if we don't want this thread to be closed then let's please stop the constant arguing between the two of us ok? both parks have their pro's & con's so instead of arguing about it let's just try to stick with the discussion at hand....I don't post in the SFGRADV threads for example because it's not of any interest to me seeing as how I'll never be able to go to that park any time soon, although if I had the means (transportation) I'd try to get out there once or twice.

The only thrillers they've got are Chaos,Rodeo & Iron eagle(IE has been plauged with technical problems lately so it hardly ever runs anymore) too bad they were stupid & got rid of the enterprise 3 years ago because that was a good, thrilling ride.

Who's arguing? When you bring up SFA needing a new coaster, you are going to get dissention. If you are going to put down SF for adding too much to SFGAdv, SFGAm, and SFMM, you are going to have people point out all of the additions that SFA, SFNE, and SFWoA received a few years ago.

Believe me, nobody asked for S:UF at SFGAdv. It was a coaster that brought a decrease in attendance over the previous new-coasterless year. Hurricane Harbor at SFA will do a great job at driving up attendance figures. Why is it okay for one park to get a coaster (6 in four years) and another not to (6 in same period?) I don't know.

Yeah it sure will be great to see Mind Eraser with some new paint when making my way over to coyote creek to take a spin or two on Rodeo, now if it gets new trains that'll be even better because then I'll be more willling to ride without fear of my restraint popping open during the ride.

Not sure exactly if the ride will be open on time though because painting a coaster is a lengthy process, first they've gotta sand blast the old paint off, then lay down a coat of primer & finally apply the paint itself & the weather we've been having lately doesn't make the job any easier.....especially when they're calling for as much as 5 inches of snow starting late tonight & lasting all day tomorrow.

I guess they'll paint ME & maybe Supes or Batwing this year & since 06 will probably be an off year they'll give JJ & whatever coaster they don't paint this year a fresh coat of paint by then,TF:TFS for some reason doesn't need paint at this time....I'll also be sure to observe the HH construction from the best spot in the park.....cresting Superman's lift.

Actually the best place to view the construction while the waterpark is still closed is just from the parking lot. If you're in the north end of the second lot of the west end of the first lot up towards the park enterance, you should get a great up close view of the construction. Not only should you be able to see the new slides well from there, but you should also be able to get a pretty good view of all the other work being done in the area.

I guess it should be no surprise that two of the coasters are FINIALLY getting painted. The park has been doing quite a bit of general renovations throughout the past few years. Cyclone, Falling Star, Tilt-a-Whirl, and probably a few other flats that I'm missing have all been repainted over the past years. Renegade Rapids got those pretty new cream colored tubes and the ride chasies themselves were either replaced or painted white (they used to be a brown/burgendie color).

Personally I'd like to see Mind Eraser be painted a new color, don't think it's going to happen, but it would be nice.

i LOVE six flags america. id rather go there than SFoG. at least u guys have some theming around the area. AND a hyper coaster. im glad my cuz will have a better water park to go to this year. i hope they redo the WHOLE water park area. that green carpet crap is UG-LY. and they need cleaner paths. i found stains and vomit leftovers everywhere. that should be a priority with ppl walkin aroun barefoot. EW. however it still is better than SFoG. yall consider urselves lucky...

A good color for Mind Eraser would be brown track/white supports to better fit the western theme of the section that it's in but alas according to the 05 map it looks to be getting the same old teal track/red supports paint job that it's always had.

Coasterkid14:I really consider Superman to be the only saving grace of the park,I'd take your B:TR,S:UF & Scorcher over the rest of SFA's coaster lineup in a second if I could & at most the only area's of the park with really good theming are mainstreet, some of skull island, coyote creek,LTMT & the Batwing midway & Hurricane Harbor.....the rest is either a hold over from Adventure World or just your run of the mill SF theming.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but when they repainted Raptor and Iron Dragon at Cedar Point, they were never primed, but they were painted the same color. When they repainted Batman: the Ride at SFGAdv and at SFGAm, they were both primed and were painted completly new colors. I'd say that the fact that Mind Eraser is being primed is good evidence that Mind Eraser will recieve new colors, IF it is true that other coasters that were repainted the same color were never primed. It's all very dependant.

Also, just because the park map shows one thing that doesn't mean that's how it will be. For instance, back in 2001, when we got Batwing, the park may had "SkyCoaster" between Joker's Jinx and Wild One, sort of where Alpine Bobs is now. That same wear, "Skycoaster" opened where it is now dispite the park maps showing it in a different location. Also consider that the park map has Bahama Blast being alternating green and purple, sort of like the colors on PBR alternate, however, the CGI of the ride shows the first half of the ride being purple and the last half of the ride being green. Not sure which it will end up being, but it once again shows the park map could be incorrect in details such as colors.

Maybe they're going to switch the colors to Red track with Teal supports like all the other Mind Eraser coasters in the SF Chain. Or maybe they're going to completly change the color like they are doing to the one at Geauga Lake, it's really hard to tell right now. Personally, if they are going to change the color all together, which is what I'd prefer, I'd like one of the following color schemes:

Orange Track with Tan Supports (as seen on Hangman at Wild Adventures):
http://www.rcdb.com/ig561.htm

Red Track with Golden Yellow Supports (as seen on Kong at SFMW):
http://www.rcdb.com/ig163.htm

Red Track with Dark Brown Supports (as seen on Blackout @ Suzuka Circuit):
http://www.rcdb.com/ig1224.htm

I think the main goal is just to get rid of that Teal. It just makes the ride feel so out of place in Coyote Creek. Even a white/silver track with a dark grey/black support like on Top Gun @ PCW or like Hangman @ the former Opryland would be fine with me.

True I recall the skycoaster mix up on the 01 map but perhaps the park might've made a last minute change in where the attraction was to be located & decided to put it next to the stuntshow arena instead.

I also do agree on the possibility of a new paint scheme for Mind Eraser what with the primer & all because they did the same thing with the two B:TR's last year & Borg as well.....too bad we can't see JJ from the street to see if it's been primed as well but most likely it'll be recieving the same colors it's always had for theming purposes of course.

I've always thought the colors didn't quite fit ME's themed area at all, still if it is getting new colors then I still think a brown/light brown track & white/silver supports would look great but then they've also gotta re do the train colors as well.

If they use the color red for the supports or track then they wouldn't need to change the colors on the red train. The only thing that really needs to be changed would be the plastic colors and you could probably paint those pretty easily.

Whatever color the ride gets re-painted in it wouldn't be a problem to have the fiberglass train panels painted in at all.

It'd probably be much easier to repaint the trains than the ride itself especially since the trains are currently off the ride & if they go with a brown paint scheme they could just as easily use that same color for both train #1 as well as train #2 instead of just alternating colors like they did when it was first installed.

Maybe this might be the perfect excuse for the park to invest in the new vekoma SLC trains? after all if they're really making an effort to improve the ride's appearance then this would be a good time to improve the overall quality of the ride experience as well....man if only we had someone with the inside scoop to confirm the possible new color scheme as welll as possible new trains.

^That's where the vekoma flyer has the advantage with the more dramatic layout, now if only they can improve the rides overal reliability....which I hear might finally happen this season.

When I asked on another board about possible new colors for Mind Eraser to which Sam Marks replied "how does yelow & orange sound?" so I know he's being sarcastic & reffering to GL's new colors on Thunderhawk which leads me to believe that ME will just be getting the same old colors it's always had.

Skye: when I said "Superman is the only saving grace of the park" I was referring to SFA's Superman & not S:UF @ SFOG.

I see that's primer on Mind Eraser? Even if the track turns out to be white that still works so much better than teal.

The color is more of a yellow than an orange...
