Insanity Malfunctions!

The newest ride on top of the stratosphere tower malfunctioned early this morning, leaving two girls stranded hundreds of feet off the ground.

That would suck to be stranded up so high on that ride, plus it was cold. Glad they are all right.

Interesting. That would be very scary if you were stuck up there. Atleast there weren't more than two people on the ride.

I think that would be pretty awesome as long as you felt secure. Maybe not at 1 in the morning but if it was earlier and not so cold it would be good.

It's Las Vegas, there's no such thing as time in Las Vegas. It's just night or day...never 2:00 AM or 4:00 PM or 11:00 AM, just night and day.

That's sucky, but they braved it out much better than I would at 11 years old. That's an odd coincidence, that it got stuck on that ride on that part of the ride, on a cold day in a hot city. That probly makes no sense but whatever.

That would be awesome to stop in the middle of the night with high winds blowing. Sure it would be scary, but Las Vegas at night is awesome, especially from the Stratosphere. ( I would know, I used to live in Sin City.) And to be outdoors! I would absolutely love that!

I woudln't call it a malfunction, the ride did exactly what it was programmed to do. If I was the manufacturer, I'd re-write the code so that it will bring the ride back in before terminating the cycle.

Um, it was very cold dude. There's this magical thing called a wind chill. Since they were high up it'd be windy. Deserts aren't very toasty at night.

That's what I don't like about a ride being over the edge of the tower like that. There isn't an easy way to get riders off in case of an emergency. I also find it funny when people say they would love that to happen to them. Sure it would be cool ride that the normal way but as soon as you know there is something wrong, you wouldn't like it. Hanging 900 feet in the air when you're not supposed to because you know something is wrong and it becomes an issue of how they're going to get you down safely, I think that happy feeling is going to disappear.

I found it rather stupid that they offered them complimentary passes good for a year. That's an insult in my opinion. They were just stuck up on the ride, do you really think they want to go back on it anytime soon? They of course said no to the offer. Another thing I don't like about it when parks offer complimentary passes when something goes wrong is what if they're not from the area? When would th be able to use them again. Being that it was Las Vegas, it would be a good bet they didn't live there anyway.

For example, my friends and I went to New Orleans and went to JazzLand (SFNO now) and we got stuck for over an hour on Zydeco Scream. They of course gave us a comp pass good for another visit. It was the last full day of our trip so the pass was essentially worthless for us. Our money back would've been a better idea but of course a park isn't going to do that. This way they can get you back to the park and spend more money on parking and overpriced concessions. So the customer doesn't just lose once by getting stuck or some other type of problem, they now lose twice and as always, the park wins.

Its a desert area, so its always going to get cold at night.

Now that would be my way of getting down. I could just imagine jumping off from up there.

Coasterdude you are already at 1000 post, why are you still posting? . It would be a bad thing to parachute down. You don't know where they are going to land. If the Strat. was in the middle of nowhere, they they be a slight of an option, but in this case no.

They showed this video of it last night on FOX25 news... They had video of the ride hangging over the tower and an interview with the older girl.

Insanity wasn't really scary to me at all. It seemed like a carnival ride suspended 1,000 feet in the air, and even when I looked straight down (the entire ride, basically), it wasn't that scary. The restraints are insanely (lol, pun) tight, and you feel incredibly secure (also, your pelvis hurts after 3 or so minutes; the loading process takes forever). The top of the Strat isn't that cold; I had shorts and a hoodie on at 10 pm (in March) and it felt fine to me.

But, I can see that getting stuck on Insanity could really terrify you, especially depending on the position you got stuck in. If the ride was completely deployed, the arms are angled at roughly 60*, and that would get really scary/painful after a while.

I TOTALLY know how you felt. The same thing happened to me. Damn Zydeco Scream.
