Favorite Defunct ride?

Whether it be a coaster, a dark ride, a water ride, thrill ride..whatever. What rides do you miss the most that are no longer at your home and /or favorite parks? A couple of my favorites that I miss are The Haunted River that was at PKD and the Time Shaft that was at PKD(we all know their former home now houses the Volcano) also I missed PKD's Apple Turnover. At the now defunct Lakeside Park in Salem VA I used to like the Cloud 9 and loved their Shooting Star woodie coaster. I am sure there are more I can come up with if I think long enough, but these few came to mind quickly..what are some of your favorites?

Hmmm, on the contrary, I am quite glad that Hercules was replaced. Hopefully, I'll be able to ride its successor (a fine looking one I might add) this year.

I was going to say Starliner, but it seems as if it will be brought back, so I will go with the Great Six Flags Air Racers as far as rides go, and for coasters, it's tough since I have done most of my travelling in the past 5 years or so, therfore most of the ones I've been on are still around. I suppose Drachen Fire was a bit of a bummer to lose, as was Viper at SFOG and Taz's Texas Tornado (but I hear it is as good as gone now so I'll take it as my favorite defunct ride)

I have been hearing alot about people saying they miss Drachenfire. I for one, never had the thrill of riding it. The last time I was at BGW ( 3 years ago) only the station and track remained. I hear now though that the entire thing is gone. Sad..becuase it looked to be an awesome coaster!

The Bat, and Wheel of Fortune at PKI

I know most of you weren't even born when the Bat was running, but it was really a great ride. Too bad it beat itself to pieces.

Shows my level of exposure, but I think everything that I've been on is still functional. This is probably a stupid question (tried searching but had a tough time finding the answer), but what was the deal with Drechen Fire that caused it to be taken down?

Drachen Fire was shutdown in July 1998. Initial plans were to modify the roller coaster. It was then decided to sell the roller coaster. No buyer was found and Drachen Fire was taken down so the steel can be recycled starting in the fall of 2001 completely removed by March of 2002.

The only good part on viper was the drop if you were sitting in the very last seat.

Well, I was riding the train back in the summer of 2001(right before they started dismantling it I imagine) and I saw the track and asked the train attendant right near us what coaster it was(actually I mistook it for Alpie at first becuase the track is of similar color but hadn't rode Alpie yet..he said that alot of people did at first) and why it wasn't running cuase i'd never been on it. He told me it was Drachenfire and that the reason it was shut down was becuase guests were complaining that the ride was too rough and they were complaining of neck problems after riding. He said they planned to sell the coaster, but I guess he didnt know at the time that they were scrapping it completely.

*points at sig* kc yo, my favorite stand up, and ive been on mantis and chang....the cobra was just so perfect. it had sweet air in quite a few places(especially the hill going into the helix^^), trick track, twists, loops, and so what if it was a bit rough? i especially love the placement, cuz the trick track part went right over that ditch-road (falling over the edge illusion). heck, king cobra is among my all time favorite coasters in general, and ive been to ioa and cp. why did they have to put delerium there? i mean, its a great ride, and one of my fave flats, but still? surely they could have cleared out some land by sob or something...

OK, let's go a little further back - The Sea Serpent, a woodie @ Pacific Ocean Park in California. More recently, the Tiger @ Barnum & Bailey Circus World (later Boardwalk & Baseball) in Florida.

You should rephrase that with "most", or "an overwhelming majority". There was a lot of angst for both rides.

I can't really see where a Togo standup would ever be missed, but whatever suits you.

i have my reasons
1. one of my first so sentimental
2. historically one of world's first standups
3. dunno if the others are like this, but kc had some SERIOUS airtime on it, and that hill into the helix was sweet.
4. it flowed perfectly with a nice blend of thrills....

I too miss The Apple Turnover and Time Shaft at Kings Dominion. Looking back, I wish they could have kept the Time Shaft in the middle of Volcano. But alas, oh well.

However, when Six Flags Over Texas put in Flashback, I went through withdrawals over the removal of RotoDisco. I mean, seriously...loud dance music, lights, and a nice cool (what, 60° maybe) air conditioned spot in the middle of a Texas Summer....all while going backwards with the huge half a disco ball in the middle....that was sweet, and I will forever miss that.

Woooohooo #300!

Steel Phantom

It's not completely defunct but it's still not the same. I absolutely love the Revenge but the Steel Phantom was my baby...and half of my namesake.

I miss Nightmare at Frontier City. It as fun but I guess I won't really miss it as long as they replace it with something good. Nightmare was one of my favorite mine/dark rides.

Flight Commander at PKI was an interesting ride, as was the Bat at PKI.

The Jumbo Jet, Scamper, Pirate Ride, Fun House, and Earthquake at CP were perrenial favorites.

White Lightnin' - Carowinds (Barely remember this one )

Carolina Sternwheeler Riverboat - Carowinds

Drachen Fire - Busch Gardens Williamsburg

Mr. Toad's Wild Ride - WDW

The Flooded Mine - Dollywood

I guess Viper (when it was at) Six Flags Over Georgia. I'm glad it is still operating up at SFKK.
