A good first ride

Hey guys, im new here. I'm thinking about taking the plunge and going on my first "real ride." At the local park they have one of those skyscraper rides where you go around and around and the seats spin freely while the propeller soars at 55. It looks really intense. The thing is i have a fear of being inverted on a ride. I also have a bit of a fear of heights and speed. I figure this will be a good ride to conquer those fears on. So far the most intense ride ive been on is Space Mountain at disneyland anaheim. I liked it, but i just have a hard time mustering up the courage for something more intense. I was hoping you guys could give me some tips and some support. Thanks.

Hmmm, if youre really tough and think you can handle it go for it. However I would tell you if your fear of heights and speed is a bit overwhelming don't go. Like, if you get really scared just looking at the thing, and watching people ride it, don't go just yet. Facing your fears all at one time can either conquer them, or make them 10 times as worse. To really be sure about this, try working your way up to the ride with other rides around it that are in comparison to this thing
*ridicuolously slow and not high at all
*slow with some height
*about med level in both speed and height
*right in between med level and the ride your going on.
If you do not have all of these options, then improvise, go with whatever is closest to each level, however if the park your going to is lacking in rides, that presents a problem. Just to make things easier, where is this ride, what park?

I say just go for it. Then if you don't like it (which is unlikely) you never do it again, but if you do then its all good. The fact is you won't know until you've tried. Also, whenever I get nervous before a ride I just remember that these things are built for our enjoyment, nothing else.

Thanks for the advice guys, I also need some more advice. How do I talk my mom into letting me ride it. I know im 17 and could always do it behind her back, but still i want to be able to let her know i conquered my fears without her getting mad. She also has anxiety disorders. Her talking me out of going on stuff has held me back a lot on this issue.

Well, on that note I'd tell her the same speech I give all my friends is there having trouble stepping onto a new ride. Just that as Adz said these rides are built for our enjoyment, and nothing else. And That each day before the park opens, there are mechanics working away on the rides, doing multiple inspections and checks and rechecks and test runs, and even more checks and test runs after that. How much effort went into the ride and just why the manufacturer made it. If a ride wasn't safe, they wouldn't build it, every ride is checked and rechecked during the designing process to make sure there is no way you can get hurt on it. They make sure of this even more by making safety checks, and failsafe systems. And theres not just one failsafe, Designers build them one right on top of the other, so there is no way you can be hurt. End Speech.

I've been on one of these and have to admit that I was a bit worried at first. I didn't know what to expect and it was a series of mixed feels. Do it. I loved it. It is so much fun. Just hop on the ride and tell them not to let you off, they get a lot of that, and it was so much fun. I have riden it twice so far and have loved it each time. There really isn't much to be scared of. It may look intimidating but it is still worth it. Just do it. I now you have heard that but I can't think of any other way of saying it. You will love it and you don't really notice the height at all while riding. It is a fun ride. So, for lack of better words.....just do it!

You should enjoy it. Just try to stay loose once you get on the ride and have a blast! I personally love Skyscrapers, they should build one at SFOG instead of the Skycoaster, it would draw more people.

ohhh i had the same problem back like 6 years ago. i got scared standing next to any ride that went upside down or more than 150 feet high. i also hated rides with no floor. but one day my mom urged me on viper, a shuttle coaster at SFOG. i was shaking and screwming before it launched out of the station. there was only a lapbar and it went upside down!! lol. but when that train pulled back in the station, i rode it 4 more times. now i will ride anything. ive always wanted to do one of those skyscrapers. im sure you'll enjoy it. think of it as a high speed ferris wheel. haha

Go for it. Once you ride it, you won't turn back. You'll get hooked before you know it.

I did it!

I went on it! not once, but twice. It was amazing. Im so proud of myself. When I first got on they strapped me in really tight, which made me feel better. When it got going i was terrified and couldn't believe what i got myself into for the first couple of times it went around. After that i started enjoying it. It was amazingly intense. How does that ride compare to other rides? When i got off the first time my whole body felt like jello. The second time when i got off i felt like i was gonna puke, probably because i had just eaten. I still have my wristband on and could go back if i wanted to. I loved the ride!!! It was an unbelievable thrill.

wow, thats a pretty freaky ride for someone afraid of rides. I have been on one of those in seatle, they arent very scary, they are only fun for the first 2 spins, then its like "uhg I have already been here. I have already been upside down this way.." But have fun.

It was a really freaky ride. I was completely terrified from the time i was getting strapped in until it went around a couple times. I was so nervous that i felt like i was gonna puke before it even started. Im proud of myself that i did it. I loved the ride. I guess that makes me one of you now. The first time it went down i was in complete terror and thought for sure i was gonna go kersplat on the ground. I conquered my fear and cant wait to go on more rides.

I remember the first time I went on a skyscraper. At night in Dorney Park last October with all of the fog. It was so scary, I thought I was going to fly out. Then on the second half it was okay, and I liked it. It was great, I'm glad it's gone.
