| Rides re-located/re-themed the most within a Park
I got to thinking, when writing in the favorite defunct ride thread relating to PKD, about rides that have been relocated and rethemed the most within a park. I'm sure there are rides that have disappeared from one park location only to reappear in another park location with a new theme / paint job, etc. At PKD, I can think of 2 relocated rides that were operating in 1975 that are still running in 2005! Both rides have operated in 4 different locations during the last 30 years. They are the Scrambler and the Flying Eagles (flyers). The Scrambler opened in 1975 as the "Witch Doctor" (African theme) in what was part of the Safari section, where the Scooby's Haunted Mansion entrance plaza is now. It then was relocated in 1980-81 to international street and renamed Scrambler, was relocated to the grove in the late 80's where the old sky pilot site was (now the drop zone ride site). was relocated for the third time back to its original park section Congo (Sarfari) when drop zone was built. The flyers opened in 1975 as the "Spirit of 1776" (Patriotic flag design) in the Grove roughly where the Water Works entrance and funnel cake building is located now. was relocated to Safari area (congo) in 1977 or 1978 and rethemed as the "Parrot Troopers". the move was made so the park could put the "Apple Turnover" (enterprise) ride at the old Grove site. The "Parrot Troopers" ride was located where the Anaconda Plaza is now (tables). It was situated so that half the ride was over land and the other half was over lake Charles. It was fun to swing out over the water. I believe the ride operated there the longest (10-11 years) was removed from that site when the Anaconda was being built (1989?). Then the ride was in storage for 4-5 years before reopening as the "Scream Weaver" in Wayne's world. was located roughly between the return section of Hypersonic's track and the pay-per free-fall attraction. (was removed from Wayne's world after 2 seasons?) Finally, the flyers operate as the "Flying Eagles" in the Old Virginia section of the park (in front of the antique cars and the pond). |

The only ride i can thing of of hand would be Metorite @ Carowinds. Can't remeber where it use to be located ( i think County Fair) and was relocated and re-themed/named to the Waynes World section (Now thrill zone) in 1994. The new name is Scream Weaver.

Whats the deal with the first 2. Is that all they did was correct the spelling on the names?

Oh ok, I gotcha. Did they re-theme the area of the park as well or just the names of the rides?

Well, the only example of a rethemed ride I can think of right now is the Hay Baler at Geauga Lake. It began life as a Matterhorn in the 1970's, then sometimes in the 80's, it was rethemed into a ride called "Yukon Yahoo" and relocated to the very front of the park. After about 10 or so years of being in the front of the park, it was moved to the back right across from Texas Twister (a Top Spin). Then the park was bought by Six Flags, and since each part of the park was to have a separate theme, Six Flags moved the ride over to the Coyote Creek section (which is where all the country-themed rides are) and built the Dominator where the YY used to sit. Then YY's original tent/building was torn down and a barn was built around the ride. The ride was then repainted and rethemed into what is now the Hay Baler.

I thought I had good ones until I read about Hay Baler. I didn't realize that it was a Matterhorn. The Mack ride is one of my favorite flat rides. The Rotor was installed in the Fun Forest area of Great Adventure in 1975. It was moved to make way for Free Fall and placed in Neptunes Kingdom for 1983. When Adventure Rivers was created the ride was renamed Typhoon in 1991. It was moved to Frontier Adventures to make way for Skull Mountain and named Taz Twister in 1996. It is said to be moved again to make way for the new wooden coaster in 2006. The Super Round up was placed in Strawberry Fair at SFGAdv in 1974. (It may have been bought from Palisades Amusement Park, now defunct.) It was renamed Fantasy Fling when Time Warner created Fantasy Forest in 1992. It was moved to Looney Tunes Seaport to make way for Evolution in 1999. It was moved to the Lakefront to make way for Nitro in 2001. Last edited by ThunderDan; 06-21-2005 at 12:11 PM. |

Kennywood sends alot of their old rides to Idlewild. One of the rides I operate, the King Kahuna, was originally at Lake Compounce and was re-themed when Kennywood got it. The Volcano, another ride I operate, wasn't re-located but it was re-themed along with the Kahuna to form Volcano Valley back in 2002.

Since 1971, Goliath Jr. at Six Flags Magic Mountain has been rethemed within the same park. Previously, it was Clown Coaster from 1971 to 1984, Wile E. Coyote Coaster from 1985-1998, and Goliath Jr. from 2001 to present. It sat in storage for 2 years. Previously, it was a kiddie coaster at the former Beverly Park from somewhere between 1946 and 1969. So, assuming it was manufactured in 1946, the coaster itself is almost 60 years old and has had 4 identities between 2 parks.
