Video of Waveswinger collapsing!

holy shee-yot!!! this video is really shocking. it shows a wavesinger type ride falling apart while fully loaded with people. this one poor little kid smashes into the ground and then gets violently ripped to the side.

warning: This is NOT a funny video. it's pretty disturbing.

That is scary and very sad. I always knew carnival rides weren't safe.

Well don't look at it like that. Carnival (portable) rides are no more or less safe than park model rides. With the proper inspection both types should be just as safe. But even with proper inspection and maintenance, an accident can happen. Now that one in particular looked old and flimsy. If you notice when the video first starts out, that swing is hopping a little. For the longest time I though NJ was a little to strict when it came to ride inspections. But thinking about it, it's actually good that they're this strict.

I have seen that clip before on "Real TV" a few years ago. They said it was at some park in China.

The only reaison carnval rides freak people out is because usually there sitting on the back of a big-rig, streched out across part of a grass field. Its because you cant see a sement foundation it that it freaks you out, well at least me. I mean even tho theres a sement foundation you dont know whats under it or how its actually fassened to the ground, but we just tend not to worry about it.

But ya that is distrubing. What is happing to the poor kid when the other side of the ring falls his seat and him go like flying up and he lands on teh ring.

Also the seats are usually hung from like the a plate sorta, thats attached to the top of the small tower. In that video all that fell was a ring that i would see. I think this had a very unusuall disign to it. I dont really like swings like that, so that only adds to the reaisons i dont like them.

I stand up and fall over then i get off lamo, i feel so drunk. Thoese kinda of rides mess with my mind big time. You should try turning your head in the oppsite driection durning your ride, it dont feel good.

Anyway you guys said it happened in China. I havent really herd about a of acidents that happen out there, they have good building pollicys ect. But as you all said its a old a flimbsy ride.

- Max

P.S. - Why there the seats fassened together? Theres like a green 'x' fassening to seats together.

Sorry guys i gotta dissagree with you here...I've generaly had some discussions here and there about the issue of "Portable Carnival rides" being safe...talk to anyone in the business, they will come out and tell you you are ABSOLUTLY safer at a carnival instead of a park. I'll quote a line from a recent artical about a parks Chaos ride Accident "the ride was inspected 2 days prior to the incident" but lets think of the time span that went between that inspection and the one before that one ...it could have been weeks!
basicaly the point is if you live in a state like NY who has a madatory permitting of amusement divices that travel, they are seen by the state every time they are put up and inspected every after every move. thats atleast on a adverage one 1-2 times a week depending on the jumps a carnival will make from spot to spot. and because the rides come apart and get racked your able to see problems right away 95% of the time. I know parks only get one inspection prior to season opening here and mabie surpised by a state official once durring a season. the rides dont come down so you rely on park mainteance to maintain and inspect rides. so now were do you feel safer at? general rule of thumb fokes ...if you go by a ride and see lights at night lit and worken there doin maintence ...if a ride is realy dark chances are they arent

Well, I did see that on Real TV and the ride did not meet up to the codes and stuff. There were suppose to be welds and bolts but half of the bolts were missing and the welds were very messy.

It's an accident waiting to happen...

Actually Topsin, most parks inspect their rides daily. Last week the was two Chaos accidents. That makes me believe that it is a problem with Chaos, not the parks. Clementon Park said they inspected the ride that morning, as they do every morning. Most parks inspect rides alot more than once a season, usually once every day or two.

And Max, you just won the award for hardest post to read.

That is pretty scary, people just fell on their knees and and faces. Did the structure of the hit anyone? Was anybody injured? That is sad, and I feel for the people and families who this happened to and who witnessed it.

Crap that is very sad and freaky. As everyone has already said, I have the mutual feelings of feeling freaked out about those old carnival rides which seems like it was assembled together in 5 minutes.

Well, people dont really need to qorry about that happening her cause we have stricter laws about rides, and at the end, it was discovered that it was rusting away in the casing

I read that the millenium force has a computer in it where the ride will not function after 24 hours if it is not accessed and the ride is not checked daily. A safety feature to keep it checked daily. Something that is appearing to be more standard in high quality parks.

This is why I don't really ride Carnival Rides that much. And if you guys say carnivals are safer, go to rideaccidents.com, and too me it seems like portable slides and carnival rides are mostly the places where there are accidents.

MF has to have a worker climb the lift hill(in an electricly powered car) and climb down a ladder 50 feet and flip a switch every 24 hours or the ride will not function. That was a pretty scary video. The people were smiling and then 2 seconds later they are on the ground. Hopefully todays rides are much safer.

This really bothers me. Even though these rides go through a bazillion inspections, stuff like this still happens.
