Tallest water rides

I was wondering if anybody knows what the top 10 (or so) tallest water rides (but not slides) are, and what their stats are? I'm not sure where to look for this.

The tallest water ride in the world is Perilous Plunge at Knott's Berry Farm. Followed by Hydro at Oakwood in Wales, then Hersheypark's Tidal Force, then the Jurassic Park rides at the Universal Parks, Snake River Falls/Dorney Park's White Water Landing, etc...

You can look each of those rides up in the database for their stats. I don't know, I have a strange feeling I made a thread of the tallest water rides in the world way back a few years ago here. I'll search later to see if I'm right...

Perilous Plunge is 121 feet tall and has an 80* drop! Intamin put in magnetic breaks for the ride so it could fit in it's small footprint, which is right across from Boomerang, and is an eye soar for the road!

Eye sore! You're kidding right? That thing looks amazing. It's too bad I didn't take a trip to Knotts because that thing looks like a monster. And I thought you got soaked on Pittsburg Plunge, there probalby isn't one dry spot on your body when you walk off this baby.

You've seen pics how closely the streets are to Knott's borders. It may be an eye sore for locals.

/\ Yeup. I worked at the park last summer and because the employee lot is behind the park on La Palma (I think that was it), one would have to drive down that street with Perilous Plunge looming thirty feet from your car to your left - with its towering height and bright green and teal colors shouting out at you. I would always find myself fixed upon it as I pull up to the employee lot.

Here's a shot to prove how it's right by the street: http://americacoasters.com/Photos/KB...s/IMG_2237.jpg

/\ I hate it when people don't follow the thread or don't even read the first post. He said NOT WATER SLIDES. So don't bring them into the discussion. I think a lot of us know about Summit Plummet.

If you're bigger you go faster because the momentum increases with weight moreso than friction (unless ofcourse you are too big for the slide).

I'm surprised that the tallest water ride is only 121 feet tall. Since they obviously don't have complex or long layouts usually, it wouldn't cost a considerable amount to build one taller. It would give a big bragging right for a park that can't afford some sort of huge coaster or prototype coaster.

Also, doesn't SFKK have one of the taller splash boats ride? I thought I remember seeing something in their park saying they did. I'll have to check and see.

/\ 121 feet for a flume ride is humongous. Wait 'til you see one of the Intamin River Plunge rides in person or ride it for yourself and you'll think 121 feet is enough for a ride of that kind. Plus, the higher you go, you usually need a larger section of flume for the boat to slow down when it hits the pool below. And that usually requires a big footprint.

And yeah, Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom's Mile High Falls is up there on the list at 90'.

What's the point? lol Pittsburg Plunge is only 50 feet tall and you still get completely soaked! I highly doubt you get any more wet on lets say a 121 foot water ride. Theres only so wet your clothes can get wet. lol I say just save the money on a 70 foot smaller water ride that gets you just as wet as the 121 foot. But of course, I guess that drop would be pretty thrilling. But I wouldn't really consider water rides supposed to be thrilling. Usually water rides, are just to get wet.

I think most water rides, are designed for everyone to enjoy. When you start building too high, only the thrill seekers will want to ride, and it will be for the thrill, not to get wet like EastCoastn07 said.

When I went out to Knotts this year PP was closed, and I didn't mind too much when I was there cause I usually don't like getting wet and having to walk around the park soaked. But this ride just looks so amazing, I'm so upset I didn't get to ride.

I don't at all doubt that it's humongous. That's also why I put "only" in italics. The point I'm trying to make is that so many parks are out to have a record anything of some sort, that I'm surprised nobody has tried to surpass that yet. A flume ride of course is going to be considerably cheaper and thus easier for a small park to build as opposed to a record setting coaster of some sort.

I'm not in any way unhappy with the size of current water rides. I just see the nature of the business and am just surprised is all. Of course the taller a water ride is, the more space it will need but just as Perilous Plunge uses magnetic brakes so could any new water ride as well. Also, when I say break the current record, I'm not necessarily implying that someone go out and break it by a wide margin but maybe 10-15 feet or so.

EastCoastn07, I see your point but if you think about it then, what's the point of a water ride at all if it's just to get wet? You could do the same thing by simply laying down in a kiddie pool at home or by just just jumping in a wave pool or lazy river assuming a park has them. The reason people are willing to sometimes wait as long as an hour on a hot day for a water ride or also slides at a water park is also for the thrill of it. So there is a thrill factor to it. Why else would people wait so long to get wet when there are quicker alternatives? So it can be strongly argued that huge water rides do serve a purpose.

If a park has three or four water rides in the main park as many big parks do nowadays, there's nothing wrong with one of them being a larger more thrilling ride. There would still be two or three other water rides the family could enjoy together.
