Disneyland's Finding Nemo - Submarine Voyage to open in 2007

Quote:
"Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage" to "Surface" in Tomorrowland in 2007

ANAHEIM, Calif., (July 15, 2005) – Jay Rasulo, president of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, announced plans for the next “E-Ticket” attraction coming soon to Disneyland park – “Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage.” The attraction will feature the eight submarines of the fondly remembered “Submarine Voyage” attraction in an all-new experience. Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage is inspired by the Disney presentation of the Pixar Animation Studios film, “Finding Nemo.”

“The submarines are coming back to Disneyland in an all-new adventure,” said Rasulo. “From the very beginning, we’ve combined new innovations with favorite stories to create magical new worlds. In ‘Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage,’ Guests will experience Nemo’s world in a way that has never been done before.”

As a member of the sub crew, Guests will embark on an expedition to observe an active undersea volcano. Bu soon after departure, they will be delighted to discover their favorite fish friends getting into the swim of things right alongside their submarine! Nemo and his friends are able to go along for the ride thanks to an amazing new projection technology developed exclusively by Walt Disney Imagineering that allows them to appear exactly as they do in the film “Finding Nemo” but now in a three-dimensional underwater world.

“‘Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage’ launches Disneyland into its next 50 years providing a one-of-a-kind experience for our guests,” said Matt Ouimet, president of the Disneyland Resort. “Our Imagineers have done a wonderful job of blending new technology with a classic Disneyland attraction to bring this exciting adventure to life.”

“We are literally bringing the undersea world of ‘Finding Nemo’ off the screen and into the submarine lagoon of Tomorrowland!” says Tom Fitzgerald, executive vice president and senior creative executive for Walt Disney Imagineering, creative arm for all Disney parks and resorts. “We are going to immerse our guests into an adventure that will leave them in disbelief—they will want to experience this new attraction over and over to find out- ‘How did they do that!?’”

The attraction opens the door to a new realm of Disney theme park experiences, in which Disneyland Guests encounter their favorite animated characters in a truly unique computer-animated environment that only Disney can create. With the use of the subs’ vintage “sonar hydrophones,” guests will hear the fish talk with the same personalities and humor established in the film. Guests will get to eavesdrop on the exploits of Dory (Blue Tang fish), Marlin (Clown fish), Crush (Turtle), Bruce (Great White Shark), and the members of the “Tank gang,” and most importantly, take part in an ever changing adventure of trying to “find” Nemo throughout the voyage.

Along the way Guests catch glimpses of Nemo in a variety of colorful undersea environments while joining Crush, Dory, Bruce and Marlin in the undersea search. There will be several moments when Guests aboard their submarine will be able to see Nemo while the other characters won’t! After surviving a sub-shaking volcanic eruption, the subs dive alongside a breathtakingly beautiful coral reef where Marlin, Nemo and all their friends gather to celebrate finding Nemo at last!

The announcement was made as part of the official re-opening today of “Space Mountain” at Disneyland and the premiere of the new “Turtle Talk with Crush” experience at Disney’s California Adventure park.
This is exciting news! The Submarine Voyage attraction was taken out of operation YEARS ago, and it's about time the park announced what they plan to do with that lagoon. From the description of the ride, it sounds like another hit for the Disneyland Resort duo and another technological move ahead in the industry like what they did most recently with Soarin' Over California.

Here are some photographs of the construction wall that went up and some of the work being done in the area. http://www.westcoaster.net/updates.p...=072005&page=2

Nice to finally see the official announcement, and it's great to know that the subs will be back. I noticed that there is no date on it, so I wonder when they're planning on reopening them? IN any case, it'll be great to have the sub back. They've been gone far to long, and the update sounds great!

No. Rockit Mountain will not be a new coaster, but a just completely different soundtrack and lights effect on the "new" Space Mountain coaster. So in short - Space Mountain will transform into Rockit Mountain every night at Disneyland come 2006.

Thank Goodness the submarine lagoon is saved for now. I'm glad that it did not end up like its brother 20,000 Leagues under the Seas @ DW, a filled in Pooh area I thought I heard.

^I know they cemented over it. I forget what they turned the area into now. If you're interested in the reasons for closing of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, this is a great webpage. http://www.crazedfanboy.com/spotlight/20k.html

^They have changed 20,000 leagues lagoon into a pooh play tree^ (or at least their in the process of it) This brings me to my question, anyone think that if its a big hit in Cali that they'll do one in DW. Im sure theres a good chance but where? obviously not the original spot, but maybe epcot's living seas, or obviously MGM, or even Animal kindgom considering they are fish? Any thoughts?

I hope Nemo does really well. I wish someday, somehow Disney will feel like they shot themselves in the foot with the Magic Kingdom 20k ride.

I remember riding this a long time ago. It was a shame to see it get scrapped. At least it'll be brought back now....hopefully to be around a long time...or at least until they make another underwater fishy themed movie.

I never got to ride 20K, but I remember seeing it in the lagoon when I was a kid. I really wish I had gotten to ride it. I have one picture of it. I think I'll weep onto it now. I had no idea why the ride was removed. I had never given it much thought, but now I see it was really something special. That's a shame.

Angry

So the SOB's tear out 20K at the MK because "submarine rides are too expensive to maintain," yet open a new Finding Nemo sub ride? What a bunch of crap.

I second that. I hope the submarines at Disneyland last another 10 years. It will probably be that long before I return there.

I didn't know this board was so far behind on news like this. You guys should pop into jimhillmedia.com (or all those Disney fansites, like WDWMagic) every once in a while and look at all the Disney theme park articles... some extremely interesting stuff there. I suggest you take a look.

^I second that. MiceAge is a very good site also (along with it's forums at MiceChat).

To address Nemo at The Living Seas. The VERY strong rumor is that the projection technology has been testing inside the tanks for a long while now, and that it will be added to a possibly extended sea cab ride.

For those of you who don't know, The Living Seas just shut down for an extensive rehab with a scheduled reopening in November.

I still have Disney A.D.D. Except for the occasionally flashy topic, this site serves me well enough.
