NEW S&S Drop ride

Hi everybody. I was at the S&S Factory yesterday 7-29 for a factory tour and a visit out to the new S&S Amusement Park in Logan, Utah.
Well they have a new drop ride. Stan's new rides known as the Boomer (not official ride name). A ride in which you are dropped from a 360 foot tower into a tube which stops the falling car by air trapped in the tube. The wild part of the ride is the noise it makes when the car enters the tube as the air explodes from the ride creating a large sonic boom. Photos of the new ride can be seen at www.Johnnyupsidedown.com or to quick link to the photos go here and to see more photos from the factory tour Click here for all photos from the factory tour. . I have also uploaded a video to view.

The ride looks cool and very interesting. I have to wonder if on of those would seriously interest a park though. Also whether parks would get one since so many parks already have big drop rides. There's still a few that haven't so that's always a possibility.

The park that have or building or whatever, is it or will it be open to the general public? That is to say, will this be like any other park that charges an admission to go on their rides and anything else they have. Or will this just be more of an elaborate testing site and also act as a salesfloor for their rides?

Yes a small park. Not sure if its a POP or pay per ride. My thinking is pay per ride. It will have Screamin Swing, go carts, putt putt, an Insane ride, and the drop ride. And no word on other rides I would think some of S&S kiddie rides like the frog hopper and maybe some other stuff. I did not ask about the park. In the coming days more info about the ride and the park will surface on the net as the event ends on sunday.
I do have a video working on getting up I will post later once up on TN.

It just looks like a fast glass elevator to me. I'm going to talk to Stan about my Idea and possibly give him the rights to it. It would shock everybody...

OH I can't wait! Seriously though, if a ride/coaster designer listened to all of our ideas, they'd have tons of new concepts. I doubt someone like him would listen to some kid on what the perfect ride would be.

As for Boomer, like I said on the other thread, I don't think other parks would be interested in a ride like this. Even if they had it as a upcharge, it still doesn't have good capacity. Maybe if a larger version is build, then we'll probably see them at other parks.

i'm not sure I really understand it.....It looks like a tiny glass elevator....Does it hold only one person at a time? I guess that could be okay for a small park though. Also, If you have ot pay to go on it, It wont be too busy so 1 person per ride wouldnt be too bad.

Well it holds 2 at a time at least the proto type. You can put 4 tubes on the tower one for each side of the tower. This is just the concept. You could do a double tower and have 8 tubes. I think they may be working on something a little larger as in maby 4 people but I can only guess as those kinds of questions they werent answereing. You could even make a hexegon shaped ring of several towers together with tubes all around the outside.

Of course they could always design larger towers so it can hold larger cars as well. But the different tower designs would also work as well. If they could some how put both together, maybe then it'll be the next big flat ride.

S&S drop ride video is up and can be seen below as I uploaded the video to Thrillnetwork, Thanks TN. Below is a video of the ride should be a ZIP file. The booming sound is distorted at the end but you get the idea of the ride. I swear when you are standing there it is like the whole ride exploded and you are expecting to see the thing distroy itself. It is one crazy contraption. It was wild to watch the thing. I need to get a small camcorder.

PIPSDREAM look at top of tread for lot of photos that I have posted on mysite of the ride and from the S&S factory tour.

There were 20 or so that were able to ride as time was limited and the spots were choosen by a drawing as there were 105 people at the Factory Tour.. It was wild to see it in action. We were invited back out after the park opens in a couple months for a ride on it.

^^ Oh I just watched the video. Are you straped into a seat inside the tube? Also..It looks like it goes into the ground. Does it? That would be cool if you boarded and unloaded into the ground.

How do you know I'm a kid? For All you know I could be associated with S&S, or any other company for that matter. You'll see, just wait...
You don't know who I am, so instead of telling me something that i already know, don't say anything if you don't like it. All I'm saying is that you'll most likely see my idea in the future, whether you like it or not.

And by the way, who ever said that designers didn't listen to coaster enthusiest's ideas? (wink wink)...

I like the concept. I would love to ride it. It would be scary knowing you were just falling into a tube of air and that was the only thing keeping you from slamming into the ground.

Your profile says your 15! I dont think they would listen to you. Boomer looks great! I hope they build one near me so i can ride it! But i dont know what park would build it since it is so loud. Residents that live by the park would have a big fit about it.

Good point about the noise factor. I feel that not many parks will be able to take this one if it's really that loud. I know with my home park there are some houses really close and depending on how loud it is they'd probably be able to hear it. I know I wouldn't want to hear a constant booming. Its still a cool concept though.

I could see a great theme with that ride going in at SDC, I think it's something they should seriously look into, especially becasue of their lack of flats.

I wouldn't worry about the size of it or that it only right now holds one or two people. Often comapnies just build small versions of rides to do some real life testing on to see how it works in reality. If they like what they have, I'm sure they could build bigger versions.

Just look at some other stuff by S&S like the ThrustAir2000. They went bigger and faster when they made Dodpnpa. Also check out their new swing rides going in at parks. The first version only held four riders and later was used as a pay attraction. Now bigger versions are being built and to be used as traditional flat rides.

If this idea does become something parks get, expect higher capacity as well as a much nicer looking design for it.

COASTERLOVE put it nicely in the post above. Couple ideas to think about. If the tower part of the ride is designed a little differently you could have a 4 way tube set up on all 4 sides of one tower. I am not sure if the ride can be scalled up to accomadate say 4 people in a pod and have a larger diamiter pod and tube. I would think S&S could get it to 3 people or another Idea would be a pod that is twice as tall and you could have 2 seats bottom and 2 seats on top. So 4 at a time with 4 pods on a tower. Build a 4 tower section like Power Tower. You could even have a tower with a chicken button that lets you go when you let go of the chicken button or just ride to the top for a full drop. The possiblities and ideas are endless. The ride operates on very simple technology.

I was just thinking about somthing one crazy idea. You could take the ride but use an air launch up the toweer like out of a cannon and then use the free fall and tube devise to stop the car.

Anyway if you are in UTAH take a drive to Lagon, Utah and see the thing for yourself. You just cant believe that it does what it does. Its one of those rides thats just crazy to watch.
