| Double Shot!
Upon my visit to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk (Video and report coming soon) I rode the new and quite praised Double Shot. The Double Shot appears to be like any other S&S Space Shot, but I think it may be differently, and provides a super unique feeling. First things first, the location of the Double Shot is the most unique ever. Standing at only 125 feet tall, numbers may want to shy away any fears running through your head about the ride. I wasn't very scared, but I was dead wrong. 125 is childs play for me, seeing as TTD is more than 3 times the height of that, not to forget about the comparable Power Tower standing 300 feet plus. So why might 125 feet be a thrill? Double Shot stands in a small corner near the arcade side of the Boardwalk. Between the underground area, and the Pirate Swinging ship, the Double Shot is the Boardwalk's new main area. Many people flock to Double Shot just to watch, and it sure is a thrill to watch. With the very short que tucked away in the corner, Double Shot provides a viewing experience unlike any other S&S tower. Even people not in line can walk up to the gate, standing mere feet away from the riders. This provides a awesome presentation area for the Double Shot. So whats missing in this puzzle? Short feet, nice area, location? Double Shot is right smack dab on the beach. More so than Wicked Twister even. And the beach that its on, is very active. Sitting on the ground waiting to launch may not feel like anything, but 125 feet high in the air staring straight out as far as you can see, is miles upon miles of pacific ocean, as well as the entire boardwalk and beaches. No other place can you experience this. Go from being ground level, to above everything looking out upon the ocean. Now here comes the surprise. When I rode Double Shot, I expected everything to be normal. Just a simple space shot. I remember riding the Red side of Power Tower, which is a upwards launch. I felt this was what Double Shot was, forgetting about the "Getting Launched Down" part. So you hear the launch sequence. A sound like a jet taking off, only to hear seconds later, a beach jam, then you get thrusted into the air. That part is certainly nerve racking, but the real surprise? The top. After you adapt to the launch, and coast towards the sky, a sudden, and super strong JERK brings you from your seat, into the top of the harness, letting all the blood rush to your head. What more, the Double Shot LAUNCHES you downward, keeping you, off the seat and in the harness. So the point of this thread, was to inform you that all things, not so big, can certainly pack a punch. While 125 feet isn't exactly Top Thrill Dragster, or Power Tower, it certainly does catch you off guard by yanking you down. Thumbs up for Double Shot. Proabobly the smartest addition the Beach Boardwalk has made in a very long time. I've included some photos for you guys to enjoy. Also: Question- Are all space shots like this?

Well Power Tower felt stronger than the one at Dorney (forgot name) and both were stronger than Doom @ IOA. I guess there all different.

I remember power tower being crazy, I was thrown out of my seat and everything but it still wasn't better than atmosfear at wildwood. It seems the smaller you get the more forces!

Doesn't Holiday World have one called Liberty Launch? That would be the closest to me. I really want to try one of these rides.

well supreme scream is higher and its one of the scariest "space shots" i have ever been on. With no launch upword Supreme scream creeps from the gorund to the top of the tower and then free falls down. It then launches you back up (halfway)and then falls again, so high you can see disneyland from KBF here is some pictures to enjoy. http://www.hawaii.rr.com/leisure/rev..._kbfarm011.jpg http://www.themeparkreview.com/knotts/mark39.jpe http://www.visitbuenapark.com/images...KntSupScrm.jpg another tower ride is maliboomer at disneys c.a adventure. launches upward. http://toon.heindl-internet.de/usa/b...maliboomer.jpg the only minus is- the seatbelts have windows! http://lostworld.pair.com/disneyland...er_loading.jpg

![]() And you just reminded me of Indiana Beach. I see the commercials for the park and also know that's actually a lot closer to me than Holiday World. Although it probably doesn't matter anyway since I know I want to go to Holiday world next year to ride The Voyage. So since I'm there, might as well ride Liberty Launch anyway.

Yea, I've been on 3 S&S towers: Dominator, Supreme Scream, and Double Shot and Keansburg Amusement park. Double Shot, being less than half the others' height, is better, because of how it launches you up, and launches you down. But not only that, it does it twice. It launches you up, then down, then up, then down, and then bounces you on a cloud of air after the four launches. I felt like I was inside a martini shaker and I was the ice!! And the best part is, once the cycle's over, the ride op checks everyone's restraints, and does it again. For only 4 dollars of tickets!! The best part is, on a clear day, facing North, you could easily see Manhattan and Brooklyn, including Coney Island.

i think the reason why small space shots have more negative Gs than tall ones is that they all launch at about the same rate. by the time u reach the top of a 250 foot tower, most of the force has already gone so u dont get thrown out of your seat as much. and it doesnt bounce as much. on a small one (80 foot, 125 foot) u reach the top a lot faster so theres still built up force. that force throws u out of the seat and the air compresses against the top of the tube forcing the car back down. the same happens at the bottom so it seems as if it launches twice. ive ridden double shot (80 ft.), dr doom (200 ft.), and power tower (300 ft.) and the double shot kicks both of the others. much more airtime and way more intense. BTW, what is with the sheilds on the Maliboomer? that has to be the stupidest thing ive ever seen? is there a reason for that?
