Demon Drop Being Sold!

On coaster-net I saw a news bit about this, it seems CP is selling Demon Drop for a quarter million dollars. Proof can be found here
http://www.italintl.com/detail_page.php?record_id=565

Also, Geauga Lake is selling their first gen freefall.

NO I LOVE DEMON DROP SO MUCH!!!! (that was not sarcastic either). this ride was great and it gave so much air. I really, really want to buy this ride if they are selling it.

From what I hear though, Coaster-net isnt that reliable so well see if it is true. If it is i will be very, very sad.

I believe it is true, because the links show that it is on a ride sale site. Links to this site have been posted on reliable sources regarding other rides, so I think this is true.

Also a note: Could this be the "coaster for sale" in the El Paso article? Because many people confuse this for a coaster.

It wouldn't really surprise me. Maybe this is where the rumoured Screamin' Swing will be going. That would be pretty cool, swinging right over the walk ways.

So thats the ride CP is getting ride of.

I guess both CP & GL will install Screaming Swings.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Demon Drop!!!!!! Seriosly, that ride gets me stomach better than ANYthing else at Cedar Point, and seconded by Gemini, then Blue Streak then Magnum, then Iron Dragon then Wildcat then Snake River Falls. (yes, Millennuim and Dragster do not get my stomach AT AAAAALL so I did not forget them). I hate to think that CP will get rid of it. ( Mr. Hyde's Nasty Fall at Geauga Lake is a piece of CRAP though. I hated that one. CP's runs MUCH MUCH better.

I would be very upset to see the ride go, I always enjoyed these old drop rides and not 2 parks within an hour of eachother will loose them at some point.

If only I had $250,000...

and the space...

Anyway, I like the ride and think it should stay. It's not the same as PT like many people say; it gives a different ride experience.

If I had the space and spare cash then I would pry buy it. A quarter million is a pretty good deal actually.

There's been limited operation of Stuntman's Freefall @ SFGADV this season and hasn't SFMM's Freefall tower been closed awhile as well?

Anyone know if there's a behind-the-scenes reason these rides seem to be coming to a sudden end? Maybe Intamin isn't supplying parts for them anymore. Or there's some safety issue. I haven't heard of any hi-profile accidents on these things for a while, but there could be some lingering lawsuit that would lead to cost-prohibitive modifications, at least in the US. Since they're for sale, they can't be completely obsolete.

Anyway, I'm another big fan of the old-school freefalls. Demon Drop also has/had a great name!

There just simply out-dated i guess and i would assume parts would be hard to come by these days.

It sucks that so many are being torn down so suddenly. Hopefully a few parks will keep them around forever but i doubt that. At some point they will all be gone.

SFMM's freefall is closed and the cars are in peices. However, rumor there is that they are building new cars and using the old parts for spares.

So that's the ride they are selling. Everyone was wondering what it was. It is a fun ride, but I'm not going to miss it that much. They have Power Tower on down the park, but then again it's nothing like the Demon Drop. And $250,000. That seems a little low to me. I wonder how much it costs when they bought it 23 years ago.

Well, this stinks. It was my first freefall ride I ever rode (in 2004) Ilove the G's at the bottom, the view of the parking lot, and the 5 minute wait. It rules!

Not sure, The news article says coaster for sale so they could be putting two rides up for sale. Now that DD is for sale i believe Disaster Transport could be the coaster foe sale. The two rides are beside each other and CP could be clearing that space for 2007's attraction.

^There is no coaster for sale. Bryan Edwards said so, and the writer of the article admitted he had made a mistake. So only DD is up for sale.

Oh ok, I didn't know that. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

DT might not be for sale but it could be on it's way out unless the sale of DD is just space for a Screaming Swing.

That's saddens me a little since I didn't even bother to ride it when I was just there a couple months ago. It's a unique ride and obviously much different than the other drop rides. I'm not devastated to see it go (unless I end up not liking the Screaming Swing or whatever will replace it) but I would've liked to have gotten one last ride on it.

It is good though to see them putting in some new great rides in the front of the park since there wasn't much exciting there just a few years ago other than Raptor. Now there's also Wicked Twister, maXair and whatever new ride they put up. It could be a great location facing the lake possibly. Of course either way it swings, the lake isn't far away.

I really thought Demon Drop would stay at CP for a few more years. Those old freefall rides are a lot of fun, they should just find somewhere else to put a Screaming Swing.

I'm wondering why exactly both CP and GL would sell similar rides and have them available at the same time? Are both parks getting a similar ride because I don't see why the two parks would be so "syncronized" so to speak. I will be quite mad if CP ends up getting that 40 seat Screamin Swings and we get one of the 8 seaters, although that area would be kinda big for a Screamin Swing IMO...

Man this is sad. Demon Drop was my first RIDE I ever rode. I loved it and thought it was the best thing ever. I still ride it time to time and I'm hopefully going to get a few more rides in before it is sold.

There also must be a good reason to not send them to another pak like WOF, VF, or MIA. Sounds to me that they are not economiclly viable anymore.

I really don't think that's a reason...If that was the case why would any park want to have one let alone by a used one of a park like Cedar Point or Geauga Lake. IMO, there has to be some other reason behind Cedar Fair's decision to take two out of their parks, I just think it's kinda coincidental that BOTH GL and CP are getting rid of them. On that Cedar Point blog thing the guys said that they were letting everyone in on something big and maybe it has something to do with the removal of Demon Drop. As for Geauga Lake, I just hope that Mr. Hydes Nasty Fall doesn't get replaced by an 8 seater Screamin Swing or something along those lines. I think the park could use a new drop tower, but I don't know if that's the place to put it.

It's almost funny to read the reactions here after reading the reactions at Zero G network (the site made up of GL fanboys). They're all like "YAY! CELEBRATE! HYDE'S IS DEAD!," and here everyone's like "DD is awesome. I'll be sad to see it go."

As for my opinion: DD is awesome. I'll be sad to see it go.

^^ I really love these rides but I have a special place reserved for Mister Hydes nasty fall, as it was my first drop ride many years ago before it was in GL or I think SFKK? (not sure wich SF park it was in previous to GL) I rode this ride as the EDGE at Great America in Gurnee Il. I loved the fact it dropped towards the midway and you could watch it from far away only on 1 side as the other side was next to a hill that had the railroad on it...

Those ridea are alot of fun. I hope that not all of them disappear, but I can see why parks may not want them anymore. When I go to a park that has one of those rides I usually don't ride it because there are too many bigger and better rides. A few people have been commenting on how short the line is for the one at Cedar Point. Maybe there are not enough people riding it and it just isn't worth it to keep the ride in good condition and pay to run it everyday.
