Person dies while setting up ride at NY State Fair

While the NY State Fair was being set up, the supports for the fair's Enterprise under the ride had shifted. The person was specifically told not to go under the ride but he did anyway to put additional supports under the ride. The Enterprise collapsed and crushed the man to death. The person should have known better because he has been working at the place for 12 years. My dad told me this, it was on the news, but I was asleep at the time it happened, so he told me less than an hour ago, while I was eating breakfast. I am still going to the NY State Fair tomorrow anyway, I don't care. Besides, it is highly unlikely for 2 rides to collapse at the same fair within 48 hours of each other. So I'm riding everything anyway.

Wow, that's pretty bad. After 12 years of working there, I'd think that he would have known better. I always feel much safer at amusement parks than at fairs. I hear so many accidents coming from fairs.

Well, I would personally go to a fair right after an accident happened, because it is so extremely unlikely that there would be 2 collapsies at a fair in 48 hours.

It's sad that arrogance leads to death. It's not the best way to go. Hopefully this won't affect the fair. I don't normally go to fairs because of the K'Nex style of construction.

I go to fairs every chance I get, knowing the chances of getting injured on a ride are 1 in 10,000,000 and the chances of dying are 1 in 790,000,000

Lets say that you ride 1,000 fair rides during your life, still like your odds?

I personally think fairs are way too dangerous.

Those carnies are sneaky bastards and have ways of getting around simple things like rules and laws. What do you think is the real reason they're only in one spot for a few days. Anyone moving that often has something to hide....

..like the fact that half of them are pot smoking drug dealers. I've been wary of carnivals and fairs for a long time. The more I hear and see of them, the more I feel that way.

Yeah, I'll still ride them. Besides, even in fairs, I never ever ever ever ever heard of 2 severe accidents occuring on a ride in 48 hours, so that's why I went on it soon after the accident.

Problem is- when you work in a dangerous situation for a long time with no incident, you get lazy, and take chances you shouldn't.

I have to remind myself daily that I can get killed or maimed while at work to guard against such complacency.
