Kongfrontaion-3 Year Anniversary of Closing

As some of you may know, today marks three years since the closing of one of my favorite rides of all time, Kongfrontaion at Universal Studios Florida. It was an awesome ride, and was one of a kind. The theming was some of the best I've ever seen (on about the level of Dueling Dragons, or maybe even better then that). It also had the cool ending, witht the videos in the tram. In case you don't know anything about this ride, it was set in present day (even though the movie was in the 30's or something), and it had big aerial trams as the ride vehicles. It was most like Jaws, with the operator being your guide, and a monster wrecking havoc. Only, Kong was much better then Jaws IMO.

There are a few tributes to the big ape set up. I recommend IOA Central's, and to a lesser extent, Universal Excitement's.

And before you ask, yes, I did attend the Annual Passholder send off as shown in the pictures. remember everything in those photos so clearly, but all that has been gone for three long years. I miss it...

I do miss Kong, and you are right the theming was tremendous, far superior to DD.

I went to Universal once, 8 years ago. My favorite ride was Earthquake. Kong was my second favorite.

Holy Crack, It's three years now? I've been to Universal once and I can't believe we did E.T., Jaws, Back to the Future, Alfred Hitchcock, Earthquake and not Kong!

I was there at closing too. Those links brought back so many memories. Wish they could've kept the ride. Jaws took the place as my favorite attraction at the studios after Kong closed. I miss it too.

I only went to Universal once while the ride was in operation but I was too scared to ride it (I was around 8).
Mummy on the other hand is a great replacement for the ride, plus Kong still lives in the main chamber of the ride

sigh... I liked King Kong... it was a great ride and different from most of the rides at the park.

When I finally go to the park tomorrow for the first time since 2001, I'm going to be a little sad in the ROTM line since Kong was a great attraction. But, ROTM should make up for it... right?

Oh well, King Kong, you will always be the king of Universal Studios...

3 years?! I didn't know it has been that long! Wow...anywho, I rode it when I was little. I dont remember what age. I remember a lot of it in detail too which is good. It was a fun ride. I still have the photo of me and my family in his hands at the end.

I can barely remember Kongfrontation, it's been years since I've been to Universal Studios (Hollywood). The only real memorable "film tribute encounter" was the JAWS one.

And it's funny 'cause isn't the movie KING KONG coming out real soon? Starring Naomi Watts and I think Jack Black?

Yeah that movie is coming out. I've seen previews for it. Looks kinda interesting...but weird at the same time.

the new King Kong movie will walk solely beacause Jack Black is in it. I dont miss the ride that much, one time was enough for me and with better rides like it such as Jaws it just was not as scary. I have yet to ride ROTM but I am sure it is good and probably better.

I loved that ride. Is this the one where the queue was in a subway setting? That thing was awesome. I don't recall them closing it.

I rode it once back in '97, my first Orlando visit. The videos at the end were cool, very nostalgia. It was closed to make way for the Mummy right?

Kong had an amazing send off. The fans showed up and cheered.
They don't do this for every attraction, like the WWW stunt show that just kinda faded away and turned into the Fear Factor show. Same for Ghost Busters. RIP.

E.T. Adventure also closed quietly a few years ago. In it's place is the Mummy.

Kong was a great ride. Although with all those moving parts I can see why they gave up on it and put Mummy in there.

Hes talking about E.T. in USH, not USF. E.T. is still intact in orlando, weird LSD effects and all.
