| 560 Foot tall Ferris Wheel
A 560 foot tall ferris wheel is to be built in Singapore. It will be called the Singapore Flyer. Information can be found her http://xtremecoasters.com/forums/ind...ST&f=16&t=2040. I did not put this in construction because I don't have enough information to do that but if a Mod wants to move it they can.

Dang. I thought a 200 foot ferris wheel was tall. A ferris wheel 100 feet taller than Kinda Ka is HUGE.

I googled it and came up with this: The official real estate advisor is Jones Lang LaSalle, so in turn, they have an offical announcement about it. http://www.am.joneslanglasalle.com/N.../07jul/SF.html Ironically, the announcement is dated July 10 2003. A general article found from JapanCorp.net: http://www.japancorp.net/Article.Asp?Art_ID=10877 That article states that Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has ordered the wheel to have 28 carriages that carry 28 people each. That's 784 people on at full capacity! MHI will be in charge of the entire ordeal. It's set to complete in 2008, and has an estimated cost of 10 billion yen, which is roughly over 100 million US Dollars. I've seen so many different figures that I'm not sure which is the true figure, but it's a lot. It's to be built along side the bay, probably what looks like less than a quarter a mile? It looks like the station will be surrounded by walled gardens, almost terraces. I believe it's part of the Botanical Gardens they are attempting to develop for their tourism projects. "The new wheel will feature a large self-rotating cabin floor stability system, which keeps the cabin's floor horizontal to the ground level. The wheel will complete one rotation in 30 minutes." That's a long time! I'm sure you could even rent out a cabin for a dinner party! That would be cool! Reportedly, you should be able to see into neighboring Malaysia and India. I wonder how they are tsunami-proofing this ride, since it's so close to the bay/water. "Its foundation is a three-storey terminal building comprising tourist-related speciality shops as well as entertainment and food and beverage outlets." I take it the foundation will be pretty deep considering it's such a huge edifice. Concepts 1 http://www.channelnewsasia.com/image.../phpAY6uWp.jpg 2 http://www.am.joneslanglasalle.com/N...ul/SGFlyer.jpg Those are the two concepts that I've seen. The second one a big file so watch out, but it's amazing. Huge project they're undertaking, but they seem to be pushing forward full steam! But it's a race, as far as I've seen and read. Other Asian cities are hopping on the ferris wheel carriage wagon. In May, Shanghai - China's commercial capital - announced it was planning to build the world's tallest Ferris wheel, standing 200 to 230 metres high. But this height has reportedly fallen to 170, so that's spinning in the air, so to speak. The wheel in Shanghai is to be called the Shanghai Star Ferris Wheel, and is due in to be completed by 2008, but let's see how these Asian cities race, shall we?

Being able to see 28 miles away from the top of that thing is amazing. You can see two different neighboring countries.

that would be too long of a ride. I mean one time around would be enough. I didn't think people still got on ferris wheels, well i know i don't ride them. i was so happy when KW took their ferris wheel out and replaced it with the aero 360.

Ferris Wheels are classic rides. People will always ride them. I personally would love to ride a 560 foot tall ferris wheel.

^ eh, to each his own. I think people are still interested in ridding Ferris Wheels, and this project while being the largest is not the first. Think of the London Eye. I'm not sure why, but Ferris Wheels seem to be becoming a bit of an interest for countries to attract tourism. I have heard of other plans for gigantic wheels before, including one in Las Vegas. This sounds very cool to me. The wheel does look very flimsy, but I know it will work because engeneers these days are crazy cool. I still enjoy a ride on a ferris wheel but I ususally hate waiting on the loading process of the larger ones such as Colossus at SF St. Louis, or Giant Wheel at CP. If it is a slw day at a park and I want a cool photo op and know I will have time to hit everything I am glad to pay homage to good ole Mr. Ferris's wheels.

There's no way somebody would fall off of it. They're in an enclosed gondola, not open air like most fairs.

I've been on the London Eye, and it's completely different from a conventional ferris wheel. The cabin is like a room: benches, air conditioning, music,... It took 45min to get around the wheel in London, who knows how long it'll take to get around that beast!
