Sea World Orlando Sky Tower

When does the Sky Tower at Sea World open? When I was there in May it was closed, but could not see anything about season closing, breakdowns etc. I am back in May and really want to ride it - shall I stop hoping now as I fear that it only opens in the holidays.

The ride has been closed 2 of my 3 vists. One time I saw a sign about "wind" keeping it closed. The other time I dont know why it was closed. But in Nov 2003 it was open.

So it seems random - there was no mention of wind when we were there, just s sign saying Closed.

I think it may be seasonal, but it usually isn't running when I go.

I also think it's seasonal. I've seen them operating it during the summer and busy holidays, but it doesn't seem to operate the rest of the time.

I wish they would open it all if not most of the time. They spent a while to theme it up and it is almost never open.

The Sky Tower is a day to day decision. It opened a couple of days in the summer. The tower is over thirty years old so it's not in the best shape. While it is still safe, it's not trustworthy as far as operation goes. It tends to break down often. They want it open as much as possible. Believe it or not, that tower brings in $1 Million dollars a year. Rumor has it that there will be a new sky tower in the next year or two. It's a shame it doesn't work, because when it's working they set pyro off it during Mystify whenever the pyro techs can get to the top from the capsule.

That's interesting considering that Cedar Point has an Intamin observation tower of the same make/model, yet it runs regularly. (Same goes for the ones at Carowinds, Hersheypark, etc)

It's older than the one at SeaWorld too.

^ Yeah. I guess it's not maintained as well as the ones at Carowinds, CP, PGA & Hershey.

Don't know how old the others are but the Carowinds Sky Tower is almost 35 years old.

Well if the tower gets replaced... They should go with the deck style tower... Like SFMM,SFEG,PKI,PKD,SFOT and others have. I like that style tower much better where you can spend as much time at the top as you want.

I talked with some Sea World staff this Saturday during my visit and all of the 3 people that I talked to said it was hurricane damage. They said that Sea World had tried to run it since last year's hurricanes , but it didn't work right or something like that.

^ Pfft. Don't think so. I was on it twice during the summer and it worked fine. One of the employees working then said a lot of the problem was staffing.

Sky Tower

Just to let people know, if you look at the Sky Tower at SW it has a slight lean to it...Thats because a couple of Hurricanes ran rough shot through Orlando last year and did damage to the park...Just my thoughts

If such were true then the ride would be condemned.

I was just there on Saturday (11/19) and it was still down. Same sign stating the the ride wasn't operating. No explanation.

It's not a busy time of year at all- in fact, one of the slowest. So that doesn't surprise me at all that it was closed.

I've seen it open once of all the time I've gone there (and I have an annual pass) I rode it since it was free with my Platinum Pass, and got some awesome pics of Kraken and Shamu Stadium from up there. All I kept thinking though was how badly I want to get to CP to ride a coaster that's much taller than that

^you should really think about capitilizing the begginings of sentences, and like Andrew said, look in a dictionary.

I don't see how the ride is in such bad condition when other rides similar to it are the same age, if not older.

Other rides like it probably aren't subjected to hurricanes just about every year.
