Dorney Park 2008

It's not confirmed, but it's all over the other sites that we're getting GL's Impulse coaster. This would make me happy, because Dorney Park needs a launch coaster. It would be cool if they kept the Superman colors and called it Patriot. I don't tihnk they'd keep the name Steel Venom, here's why. Dorney Park has a 200 foot height restriction on the park. The only area they can build a 180 foot tall ride is by Steel Force. They wouldn't have Steel Force next to Steel Venom.

Also, Dorney hasn't gotten a dry ride for a while. If they aren't getting the impulse, they'll probably get a flat ride. It's been all water park no theme park since Hydra and Screamin Swing.

I'm not really in love with Impulses but it would be nice to experience the first US one and my first one with that holding brake on the back. I don't count the one @ SFMW as one I've done with the holding brake as intended.

I've done V2 at GAm with the holding brake, and it's a fun ride. With Deja Vu in the park it's got nothing, but at Dorney it would be great. Any launch is fine by me.

I don't like the name Patriot for this one but it would work if you put American flags stickers facing vertically on the front and rear cars of the train. As it would go up each spike the flag would raise.

WEll it couldn't get Steel Venom either. I wonder, would they keep the name, borrow a name from another park, or get creative. I don't think they need creativity for such a lame ride.

Could they get away with just calling it just Venom without any connection to Marvel Comics?

What's the point, they'd need to change the logo then anyway.

I wonder why no one else is intersted. It's not like Dorney's a small park or something. And it's not even our homepark.

It went from rumors to the discussion with the city board to move their two approved higher clearance allowances. That got approved. I guess we're waiting for an official announcement and site clearing?

Well they wouldn't announce it until probably October. But if they got clearance to build something taller, that means it may be able to go somewhere else in the park. From what it seems, Talon and Steel Force are at about the same height, and that was their limit. Also, they need a long level strip to build the impulse. I can only imagine the area between the carousel and Laser. Or the part behind Revolution. But Revolution is in the way.

That cleared lot behind that Revolution has just a pathway with trashcans and a restroom. I envisioned it big enough for a Xccelerator or a very crammed woodie in a rather square lot. From what I learned from a Dorney history site it used to be another pond or reservoir. I'd rather it go along the very long plot where the Skyscraper upcharge ride used to be. That is between Laser and the other flats. As long as the Zephyr train can fit around the site.

Is the Skyscraper strip long enough? I've only seen the GL one, didn't get the chance to ride it, but it seemed much longer than the area there. Unless they shift it out farther away from the walkway and used the land to the left of the arcade and Laser...But the street comes pretty close to that. I'd like to see this happen, but I can't see the room in that area of the park.

I know I'd rather see a woodie. At least where the swimming pond used to be by Revolution and Steel Force.

The skyscraper strip could really span from Laser to the carousel area, so ti is big enough.

I still think this coaster could have been more useful at another park. but I'm glad there moving it and not scraping it. should prove to be a good addition to the park.

I hardly have a shred of respect for this supposed new moved coaster unlees they force me by naming the ride Steel Zephyr or anything Zephyr related.

They already have Steel Force in the park. Anyway, what kind of accident happened with this ride? Did it like derail or something?

Also I think there's a possibility of Laser going bye bye. I'd rather have Laser than an impulse for the record.

They already have a train called the Zephyr, which is awful.

During the 2006 season, an incident occurred on Steel Venom in which the part of the train and an LIM launch motor were destroyed. This occurred in mid July and the ride was closed for the rest of the 2006 season.
On Wikipedia. Seems believable.

That one has Conklin flags along the lift. Unless Dorney is using a different picture for Laser, it's probably a different ride.

2), scroll down, you'll see

repainted in 2000 and only used once a year since.
There are also more people in front of it than I've ever seen at Dorney Park.

I bet they call it Firehawk.

Why is that? When I rode Laser it was rough, slow, and painful. I'd much prefer an impulse.

I'd have to agree. I'd much rather have an impulse than Laser. Laser is terrible for tall people.

For me Laser was fast and intense. It's all in the eye of the beholder. I would like to preserve a classic bread and butter looper than a electricity sucking ride that makes me question why a Ring of Fire is not called a coaster as well.

Does the Lagoon in Utah have one of these Schwarzkopf loopers?

Yes, but the lagoon has an extra 360 degrees on it's last helix, which isn't on this ride as the pictures show it. There are some traveling ones though, that's probably it. BTW, Laser used to be painted those colors. But there is a steep rise behind Laser, not in the pictures, so yea that isn't it.

Also, I've been on an impulse and Laser, and I prefer Laser. I would prefer a classic Mercedes than a brand new Audi.

Jerry, you got it right. My uncle has an 82 Mercedes Diesel, on a side note. In 1997 I believe Laser was white with red track. I was not surprised it was very GASM like in paint scheme.

I've ridden both Laser and an impulse too. Laser can be better than an impulse, there are some days when it seems much more intense.

If you're going to use that logic, than you'd better take every launched coaster in the world off your ride count.

No, GASM has a very Laser like paint job since laser had it first, lol.

This whole Steel Venom idea is incredibly lame, thus solidifying Knoebels as the best park in the whole PA/NJ area (and perhaps the world). CF/DP is just bringing in a new ride because they can. CF is being very Six Flags like at this juncture. I'm tired of corporate parks and Knoebels is really hitting the spot right now. I am rambling right now but I hope you people understand what I am talking about. Knoebels is by far the best park out there because it is not just about getting an addition and the bottom line, it is about the entire experience.

That's the one thats scaring me.

My particular beef deals with the continuous back and forth in a cycle on an impulse rather than the once you're in and then you're back motion of most shuttles. I'm not so antsy with the other shuttles.
