Holiday World 2008

I noticed some work being done near the Employee parking lot two weeks ago while at the park. The park has now put out a teaser of what it may be. Let the speculation begin.

I read about this about an hour ago which linked me to the Holiblog and I checked it out. I didn't really look around the park too much while I was there last year other than riding the rides and coasters other than a few glances from the top of Voyage. So with the picture and what little I know of the site, I couldn't even guess as to what type of ride or attraction it would be.

The only thing I could guess is that it probably won't be something especially big or newsmaking since they just hinted at it now and go on to say they will tell us what it is next week. I would think if it was something big, it would be hinted at more and more as time goes on before they then finally make a big announcement. Similar to how they did for Voyage and most parks do fr big attractions.

A big flat ride of some sort would be cool since they don't really have one. All their flats are very mild and many are also carnival standard. That's not to say they're not fun rides, just most aren't extremely thrilling except for maybe Liberty launch.

What ever it is it looks like the area is large. But some of that could be pathways .I'm going to guess a new water ride for the theme park .

Actually probably everyone did read the Holiblog and when finding out it was just a carpenter work area, they probably decided not to even post about it. I read the blog last night and didn't think to even post about it. I just came in here now to see what was said. Hopefully something exciting is coming after a weird teaser like that ended up just being for a workshop. We'll see.

I think the park needs an agressive flat ride next. There is such a contrast between their tame tame flat rides, and their wicked coasters that they need to have some rides in between. Something like a Top Spin, Top Scan, Frisbee, Screamin Swing, Wipe Out... Preferrably in the Thanksgiving section. A swinging ship while not so aggressive, would be fantastic the Thanksgiving section. Call it the Mayflower. They should name the trains on Voyage Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria too. lol

That would be Columbus, who has absolutely nothing to do with Thanks Giving. But the Mayflower idea is nice indeed . I would love to see what they could do with some flat rides, seeing as how nice the Turkey Whirl turned out.

Well Columbus lead to Thanksgiving ultimately. lol. It was a stretch but it was the only Voyage type names with three ships that I could come up with. Speaking of Voyage, I planning on going in a week and wanted to know how she's running this year. I know they did some retracking this winter, and wondered if it was running smooth, and if the midcourse is still not trimming. (It's holiday World and they seem very anti trim, and pro enthusiast so I'm sure they are still nice wide open brakes)

*sigh* are there any other parks out there that let their woodies run wild and trim free like they should be besides Holiday World?

Knoebels. No seatbelts either. They also apparently have the loosest flying scooters.

I can't believe someone actually said "Voyage" and "smooth" in the same sentence.

It's hardly smooth. In some places, it's positively brutal. Ow ow ow!

...and it's STILL my favorite coaster, on a ride list of 479 coasters.

I'll say it. Voyage IS smooth. I actually thought it was incredibly smooth. It is no El Toro, but it is not rough by any means.

If Voyage was as smooth as El Toro, it wouldn't be as amazing. Still amazing but not as amazingly amazing. Voyage claimed #1 on Opening Day '06 and is still #1 after my July '07 visit.

Well, I just got back from three straight days at the park, and I noticed something a little interesting. I have a hard time thinking it has anything to do with a 2008 attraction but there is a bit of work being done just outside the tree line back by Voyage's midcourse brake. It is Northwest of the area where they are building the new carpenter's shop, and is slightly visible from the highway east of the park, or if you look to your left while riding the coaster on the midcourse brake run. There is no midway anywhere close to that which is why I don't think it is an attraction, but it seems they are up to something back there.

^lol. I know they added brakes to the Voyage but that has nothing to do with land clearing and heavy machinery about 200 feet away outside the woods. Not to mention the equipment used to do it would be long gone by now, not being driven around in a dirt pile.

Ok, my other thread was a repeat, lol, so here's what's going on now on HoliBlog:

This time of year, we always worry about leaks.

We have a pretty good idea what we're adding for next year, but there's all that naming, designing-of-logo(s), putting-together-of-fact-sheet(s) and webpage redesign(s) busywork that just takes time.

Enter Mike, our sales director. He's already hitting the road, selling the '08 season.

Sworn to secrecy.

It just about kills him every year.

So, out of respect for Mike's children, who love their daddy, we push ourselves to make the announcement each fall just a bit before each "t" is crossed and "i" is dotted.

I'm a believer in releasing the information on our website at the same time we talk to the media...so be sure to check back on Thursday, September 20, as we plan to tip our hand that morning around 11 am.

The first line...

The new attraction is expected to cost $1.7 million.

The theme park in Santa Claus in southern Indiana says it is winding up its 2007 season with seasonal attendance topping one million guests.

Holiday World's roller coaster the Voyage was recently ranked as the number one "Wooden Coaster on the Planet" according to Amusement Today magazine. Earlier this month, the amusement park received four Golden Ticket Awards, which are considered the Academy Awards for the amusement park industry.

Hmmm, $1.7 millions. What can that buy? I'm guessing that could be a reasonably sized flat ride. I wonder what the rest of the $6 million is going towards? New restaurant(s) and other type of attractions or maybe just general improvments?

Well that's what I was thinking considering it's location.

I knew it wouldn't be a coaster or anything like that.

I hadn't been following the construction or ground work, rumors, etc so I wasn't really sure where it was being built. So I was kind of hoping it might be a flat ride of some sort. I'm not disappointed thoughas it seems like a great addition to what I hear is an already great waterpark. Next time I go to Holiday World, I'll have to leave some time to actually check out the waterpark.

Sounds like a Whitewater Treehouse attraction. That will be a nice addition to their park.
