Steel Hawg-Indiana Beach

I was going to leave this for someone else to post but I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere so I'm curious what people think of this newly announced ride for next year.

The ride sounds interesting being the "first" big steel coaster in Indiana, also the first with inversions. It's from S&S and seems to be an El Loco coaster as mentioned on Screamscape.

It's the first picture and description seen here-

woot!!!! I can't wait. I don't know what will be more fun- riding it, or seeing how they shoehorn it in.

It's so cool how the turn before the first major drop banks outwards instead of inwards. That should be a really cool element, and if it had been going faster I know that there would be some awesome negative vertical g's. This park is lucky to even possibly be getting an "El Loco" coaster from S&S

If thats what their building then i'm sure attendance will go up alot for that small park. Alot of people (Myself included) will make it there just to ride something like that. Never been built before so that good for the park.

This is a great move by Indiana Beach. They are kind of into the 21st century now. I have been there only once surprisingly. Considering I'm only 80 miles away. But there is no interstate to take you there from South Bend. This will get me there. Looks like a Euro Fighter kind of but more intense? I agree Brian, how will they fit this in. They say it will be behind kiddieland and Cornball. IB just bought land back there so that is probably where it is going.

Did they really have to name it Steel Hawg? They need to get away from the whole dumb redneck farmer theme.

44 mph.....zzz

96 foot drop....zzzzz

I live in Indy, which isn't too far away, and I still don't have a reason to make my first visit to this place.

How fast do you want a coaster like this to go?
If it goes too fast around the outside banked turns, the riders would experience some pretty big Gs. Plus, like the Screaming Squirrel, if it goes too fast over from over to under, it could cause pain to the riders.

The ride isn't meant to go fast, it's meant to do things coasters have not really done before.

Well, Cornball Express is the only coaster even remotely redneck-y so it's not exactly a theme. Plus, and I can't back this up at this point, I think "hawg" might be refering to a motorcycle. Even if I'm right, I guess thats still a little hick-ish. Eh, nevermind. Anyway, since you live so close I recommend you make a visit; it's a small park so prices aren't outrageous and the lines are usually short. Plus, Cornball is a surprisingly great coaster.

As for the height and speed? Great things come in small packages (Raven, the aforementioned Cornball, most every EuroFighter...). I don't think its all that small a ride, actually.

But since I mentioned Raven, who thinks this might be IB's Raven? Is this the coaster that makes IB a ride Mecca? Will we be seeing IB be a steel park for Holiday World's wooden park? I hope so.

Another zany coaster to add to the zany lineup of this park. Watching how the two woodies overlap over things around there sent me a message of how unique this place is. The Superstition coaster, now this, Indiana Beach has it.

One day I'll make it there.

Don't judge coaster by the numbers alone. Cornball is an underwhelming 55 feet tall, and goes a yawning 45 miles per hour.

And I guarantee you can go twice as high and twice as fast for half the fun.

it's two hours from the SE side of Indy to IB. Two fifty to get into the park, and twenty bucks for a Pay one Price ride pass. Pretty cheap for the most overachieving wood coaster I've ever ridden and a load of great oldskool flats.

it's no Cedar Point, but you don't need to drive eleventeen hours to get there, you don't have to pay a fortune to get in (and you get to park for free), and you don't have near the crowds.

Try it- and if you can honestly tell me that you didn't like it, I'll bring $22.50 to your door.

And since there's now a news story about this, let's continue the discussion about it there.
