Six Flags America adding Tony Hawk Halfpipe

I've been cruising around the SFA website this evening and noticed they are adding a Tony Hawk Halfpipe slide next season. Did anyone else know that?

I like the half-pipe slide at Emerald Pointe, its different. Though, I like how this one doesn't require two people to ride. Though, I think SFA (the park) needs rides much more so than the waterpark needs a slide.

On another note, what is Shapiro's obsession with Tony Hawk?! He's getting to be like Dick with naming rides. lol

Hmm.. Why would SFA get a pipeslide.. When they have a TORNADO!... Its the same ride just by a different maker.

1) It beats nothing at all.
2) There a lot of fun.
3) No sides on it adds a little to the excitement of going over the side.
4) Single riders (something SFA sorely lacks).

Didn't another Six Flags park (Texas?) announce one of these slides, the Wild Wedgie or something like that?

Look Batwing fan; they get something!

But I too agree it should be a flats or coaster product. Maybe a new SLC train even, something.

Hurricane Harbor Arlington announced the Wild Wedgie.

You know, they could just build Intamin Half Pipes in the parks that have very little room, that coaster probably makes more sense than any other ride.

THEY DONT NEED ANY NEW WATER RIDES.

Maybe if SFI could open there eyes, they would see that SFGadv's HH needs a new water ride. It hasn't got one since it opened.

They do need more water rides. The water park is the busiest area of the park. They need additional water rides to disperse the crowd. A crowd of people not standing in line become happy guests.

Your going to stand in lines no matter where you go. The only time where there aren't that big of lines in a theme park is right at opening while the kids are still in school.

pretzel-loop is right, I go to SFA all the time, and the water park routinely gets long lines. Many times, the waits for water rides are longer than even Superman's. Yeah, that's because the capacity for the water rides are lower, but doesn't that mean there probably should be something to give them more capacity...like... another water ride? I think so.

I agree that it would be great for the theme park side to get a flat or another coaster (preferably something Intamin hehe), and I'd personally rather see the theme park side get something, but I think the water park "needs" something more.

BTW, medieval, my family and I go to SFA as much as GAdv not because the rides are better, but because (apart from there being more areas to relax, according to my dad) the lines are generally very short for the theme park side. In my many many visits, early in the season, middle of summer, and during Frightfest, I'd say Batwing's line now averages 30 minutes, Superman's 10 mins, and Wild One 5-10 mins, then all the other coasters have been walkons almost every time I go. It seems, and I'm not the only person to have noted this, that both sides of the park can be packed, but the coaster lines are almost always short. For me, the short lines make me not care too much about the occasionally horrible coaster operations with the fast pass policies and other little issues. If you have to wait 10 mins instead of 5 for SROS because of flashpass, that's still less than the average 40 mins for El Toro and between 30 and 1.5 hour averages at Kingda Ka.

In my 130+ rides on Alpengeist and Apollo's Chariot, I think I've only seen the lines exceed 20 minutes a few times on Alpengeist, and never on Apollo. The one day I went to SFoT, I got tons of rides, 16 on Titan, because the longest line for any ride was probably 20 minutes.

I agree that a lot of times it depends on when you go, but I wouldn't say that specific time is the only time lines are short. Catch SFA on a Sunday or weekday (or even sometimes on a Saturday it still isn't that bad at all) or many parks on a weekday even in the summer and you usually won't wait too long from my experience.

The coaster waits are no problem at all, they're actually glorious and disperse some of my bitterness to spend all that money on gas to get there. It's just some of the lameduck coaster selections like Mind Eraser, not enough trees, no water fountains, dead ends at Batwing that discourage me with the atmosphere of the place. Wild One, Roar, and Two Face proved to be a very powerful trio for me the last time I went.

Superman this past summer was running amazing too, very fast relative to previous years. The third hill was surprisingly as good as I had remembered, and the bunny hops had sustained air and didn't lag like they had been over the last few years. I was glad to see that improvement.

I'm looking forward to this water ride too, looks like a lot of fun to me. Yeah similar to Tornado, but they're both sweet so that's ok.

Mind Eraser probably saved SFA from becoming a strip shopping center and houses. It was the first coaster added to the park that was already in bankruptcy. I can't blame the owners (at that time a little company, new to the business call Premier) for adding Mind Eraser. It was the coaster design of the time for 10 years, everyone was building SLC's. Hopefully the park will replace the trains in the next couple of years and she will be like new.

Who needs water fountains when you can get a courtesy cup of water at any refreshment stand (probably tastes better). Before you say they need water and bathroom by Batwing, I realize that. The just don't have water lines back there for such a thing right now. Hopefully that will be some of the infrastructure improvements they are working on this off season.

The tree issue... The trees are coming they are just slow to grow. Perhaps they should have planted something else in what was once fertile fields for growing corn and tobacco.

They also need more rides in the theme park side too because they've been removing rides left & right without any replacements & that really says alot to the csutomers who come year after year hoping to have something new to enjoy only to be disappointed yet again & what's worse to find that yet another ride that was there last season is probably gone.

This was just Shapiro's cheap shot at saying "hey we'll add something new just to make it look like we care about the park when really we don't" because of they DID care they'd realize that the ride side of the park has been neglected for FIVE years now.

I seriously believe that this lack of attention to the ride side is setting the stage for a GL type situation here & that they don't intend to run the park as it is much longer hence the lack of investment in new rides year after year and,as a loyal customer I simply won't tolerate it anymore. It looks like KD will be getting my business in 2008 instead because at least they're adding something that I ACTUALLY want to ride.

I also wouldn't count on anything big coming in 2009 for the park's 10th year as an SF property,it wouldn't suprise me if they made the decision to close or sell the place by then.

I wouldn't be surprised if it became the site of more Maryland cribs.

Well maybe in 2009 they'll see fit to give the park something good for it's 10th year as an SF park & since every SF park but ours has gotten a new coaster(with SFOTR finally getting their first in 7 years) it's only fair that they give us a new coaster in 09 & not yet another boring waterpark slide.

If I compare the park to Dorney Park in offerings I guess I understand why they don't bother to add anything. Probably a 10th anniversary gift is a best shot.

^True but if it's not worth the money to invest in the park then they should just close it down similar to what CF did with GL.
