The Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit

Universal announced their new roller coaster planned for 2009, The Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit. It's going to be a Maurer-Sohne X-Car Vertical Coaster featuring their new Multimedia X-Seats and apparently a few 'first of its kind' elements.

There's a full article here:
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/busin...,3576109.story

Between this, Potter, and the new Sea World coaster, 2009 is looking to be a good year for Orlando area attractions.

While the article never mentions X Car, it is definitely depicted in the rendering. I was doubting it was actually going to be an X Car just because of the cruddy capacity, and it seems a little too low budget and gimicky for Universal. Seeing the new multimedia concept Maurer-Sohne has attached to their design options, I'd say it definitely looks to be the case. I'm feeling a little sketchy about how great this may turn out to be, but I'll wait till we see the final result and the reviews come in. Looking forward to a new coaster at USF though fo sho y'all!!

Yeah, the article never mentioned the manufacturer, but it was confirmed by documents filed back in January with Orange County:

This ride looks to be pretty sweet, the first drop looks very steep. I am looking forward to this as well as the many other things going on. If BGA also gets a new coaster, that would really be the icing on the cake for 2009

It was mentioned on another site that this ride may not go upside down after all, and will feature a non-inverting loop.

I'm so glad I am going to be going to college in orlando the next four years. Seems like the best time I could have picked. There is so much activity in that section of the country. This ride looks really great.

You guys really hate me, I found out about this coaster, and didn't realize that someone had posted about it a few hours before me, so you delete my thread. I'll bet that you don't even know about the coaster that came out in universal japan one year ago with muiltiple music selections called hollywood dream ride. You guys really hate me just because im too busy to post here. What makes me different than all of the veterans on this forum.

1. Yes, we did know about the one in Japan.
2. Nobody hates you, your thread was locked (not deleted) because this thread was already going. There's no point in having two of the exact same threads going at the same time.
PS, a "veteran" of the website is someone that's been around longer than 1 year.

lol.

as Wildfyre said, the thread had already been created, there was no need for too. Even if one of the original members from 6 years ago would have made the thread it would have been locked. No need to take it so personnel.

Anyhoo, yay yay yay for this ride. Not the uber-cool hyper I was hoping for, but this will do just fine, thanks.

I don't know if any of you have seen the model for the King Kong coaster at Dubailand, but it looks like it could be similar to what this coaster sounds like it will be. It even has the whole "loop" effect after the first drop (though in the model it is very small and not to scale).

http://www.screamscape.com/html/univ...bailand_12.htm

Of course I could be wrong.

Actually I just noticed that that park is Six Flags not Universal, but the design could be similar yet.

Screamscape has posted some really nice Concept Art, which shows the ride's Layout.

I was slightly on the fence about this ride, but now I'm genuinely excited. Should be an interesting experience.

Looks like they have an element similar to my coaster Monsoon on speedzone (NL). I call it Monsoon, they call it a treble clef.

This coaster looks pretty promising, but at the same time before and after every major element it seems like there is an MCBR/block section which could ruin the ride IMO. I can't tell if there will actually be any inversions, or just near inversions like a sideways loop, inverted turn, or the "loop."

What is a treble clef anyway? In the picture it looks like the drop goes into a helix which spirals up, and then goes into an immelman (but that's the part I'm confused about).

I also like how they named the elements to relate them to motion picture elements like "double take", "plot twist", "drop tuning"

Where'd you find that?
I agree with Bencerisback, though, that the MCBR's are over-used. If that concept art is real, then I'm not ENTIRELY sure how good this ride will be...although I stil love the high-tech aspect of it...

Ya, it looks really cool but why so many MCBR's? Make those into zero-g rolls.

The coaster = a Maurer Shone Coaster

Maurer Shone Coaster = Small Cars

Small Cars = Low Capacity

But...

Lots of cars and lots MCBR's to be able to run those cars close together = bigger capacity.

That is why there are so many MCBR's

I understand that, but I think one after every single element is a bit much. I don't think they can load a car in the 5 seconds it appears for the ride to go from MCBR 1 to MCBR 2.

Actually they can, they just load multiple cars at a time. Have two or three cars being loaded, then they all leave the station together, the first car goes on, and the other one (or two) wait just a few seconds to give enough room and then it goes. The same process is done for braking and unloading. It's most likely what they will do (I hope that definition makes sense...)

That may be the case but they should have went with Intamin or B&M if they want better capacity since they are such a large park.

But if they did that, then it would just be another Intamin or B & M. I applaud them for going with something different. Hope it turns out to be decent though.

From the looks of the drawings all of the drops look very steep, even after the MCBR's which will be awesome if that is true. I think the first drop will probably be more than 90* because that seems to be popular for parks these days, and it wouldn't be much of a surprise if Universal did this, but with a different manufacturer/style/theme than most parks. The drawing also made me think that.

What is a treble clef though?

I'm wondering if my Fahrenheit ride will make me wish Intamin did this one as well. I understand how this is Maurer-Sohne territory, these compact lift rides recently, but I'm really curious about this Intamin addition.

Supposedly (I think this was posted on screamscape awhile back) The plan was to originally have intamin do it, but supposedly it would have had to wait a year or two becuase Intamin already has so much on their plate world wide, they couldn't handle opening another coaster with the amount they are opening world wide (While things aren't exactly booming here in the states, there is a huge theme park/coaster growth going on around the world right now, especially the Higher class parts of the Middle East and Asia.)

I'm on top of that with the lofty openings in Korea coming in just a few short years. I don't count on Japanese coaster companies for new coasters.

Intamin's are all very unique for the most part. Maverick, Farenheit,MF, and TTD are all completely different. B&M's aren't as different but are always great.
